Kenny Vance: Devin Harris rumor (deal on the table)???

So then the Q is, why in the hell would NJ want to trade him

Simple. Ed didn't mention the downside of Harris - he makes a lot of $. If your team sucks, you should remove high priced players and replace them with low cost players with "potential" - that describes Rudy and Bayless. So, from that point of view it makes sense.

I think Miller + Bayless OR Williams is a very fair trade

Now why would NJ do that???? i dont know...

You get a 2 guard of the future and an experienced point guard to break in Lopez. Then they can look for a PG to pair with Lopez in the long run. While there is some window crossover between Lopez and Harris, they can afford to wait and build around Lopez. Miller would get Lopez the ball a lot more then Harris in better position to score. Same with Favors. They would have 4 good positions with 3 sharing a similar window in Favors, Lopez and Bayless or Williams.

KP's gone dude, let it go.

Dude that's bullshit, you know we should have drafted CP3 and Durant. Oh wait let KP go sorry. I was about to include Jordan and bad medical advice for Walton, but you know that would be taking it too far.

I would imagine it's based on Williams becoming trade-eligible again. The Williams signing might make Bayless more expendable, but I can't imagine they'd have a deal for Harris not go through because they don't want to lose their backup PG.

I'd guess Miller and Eliot Williams for Harris...

Ed O.

When is Elliot Williams eligible to be traded?

I can see them, not as a centerpiece, but having interest in Rudy as well. Wasn't their owner the owner of CSKA when they were supposedly offering him a lot of money to stay and play there, as opposed to coming here. They had the largest offer I remember reading back then. NJ owner mentioned wanting to be a global team. Adding previous international stars will help somewhat in that regard.

Master Cho is going to turn this into a 3 way deal that will get us CP3.

The Nets don't really need Bayless or Williams, or any of the Blazers' guards. They have a plethora of wing players from Outlaw to Terrence Williams(avg 15/7/7 last month of season last year), to Courtney Lee and Morrow, and they still have Farmar as the backup PG.

They could use some backup bigs the most I guess.

I think Williams and Miller for Harris makes the most sense. Roy and Wesley are going nowhere for a long time, so losing a third string SG does not hurt much. There could be truth to the rumor that Harris and Avery did not co-exist very well the first time. Maybe NJ thinks Miller would be a better fit. I think the Lopez rumor has zero legs.

When is Elliot Williams eligible to be traded?

30 days after signing as a draft pick according to the Salary Cap FAQ.

He was signed on July 7, so that puts us at August 6, or thereabouts.

It explains why they drafted him (in spite of Bayless's presence and then selecting another tweener guard), why they signed him (to count as salary in the deal, rather than as $0 as rights to a draft pick) and why they didn't play him in summer league (because him getting hurt would flub the deal, potentially).

We'll see...

Ed O.

That's the problem. OTOH, yours is an argument why they don't need Harris either.

Mixum is lurking... just posted the Harris trade rumor over on Oregonlive but now it's "multiple sources confirmed blazers and nets have a deal in place."

Hey, I guess that makes us all "sources"

Understatement of the week.

The dude hasn't shot over 30% the last 2 years from 3, has injury concerns, and somehow managed to regress last year despite being the man on a historically awful New Jersey team. No thanks. Not exactly the missing piece.

In evaluating pretty much every trade, I look at it through the prism of "How does it affect Greg Oden", because everybody agrees our only chance at ever beating the unholy trinity in Miami is in developing a dominating superstar center.

I think Miller will do a better job of getting Oden involved in the offense. He's simply a far superior, smarter passer. I'm thinking there's going to be one or two plays a night that will be in contention for Sportscenter highlights.

However, Harris is a vastly superior defender. He's a guy who can contain dribble penetration, which is what leads to Oden picking up cheap fouls.

At this point, I just want Oden out on the floor as much as possible. He (and Roy) can create offense on the fly for himself. The important thing is having him in there anchoring our defense and rebounding this year.

So even if you disregard the enormous age gap between Miller and Harris, Harris would be a really nice upgrade for this team.

If you don't understand, I suggest you seek professional help.

At a minimum, halve pity on your fellow boarders. No one likes to hear the incessant wailings of a tortured soul.

Harris' numbers his last year in Dallas would be a better indication of how he'd fit on the Blazers imo.

That said, I was a huge Devin Harris fan at one point, and remember Tony Parker thanking the Mavericks for trading him because Devin Harris used to torch the Spurs in the playoffs. That was when he was still a relatively a new player in the NBA as well. His 2nd season I believe.

Not sure how much of an upgrade he'd be over Miller(probably better man defense), but at least he's younger and could be part of the team moving forward. This is without a doubt Miller's last season with the team.

K .

What if Cho's fancy godlike software doesn't like Devin Harris?

Oh, I forgot, the Blazers are "collaborative" now.

Welcome to the dark side my apprentice.

Matthews: Wouldn't they wait for that to be official to make certain we have a back up SG before trading Rudy etc?

Thats why IMO they had to wait.

As for Harris' crappy shooting--he didn't take 3.5 three pointers a night because the thought he was good at them. He took them because that team fucking sucked. Whenever I saw them play it was desperation possession after desperation possession. Harris gets a flaming-bag-of-crap pass with 1 second on the clock, and he's going to have to heave it.

He'll probably always be a crappy three point shooter, but we can definitely reign him in on taking those shots. If you take those out of the equation, suddenly he's a pretty efficient shooter.

I think Williams was taken for POR not for another team....and it likely means that Bayless is gone along with Rudy.....

Maybe a Przybilla, Rudy & Bayless for Devin Harris....

NJ gets a b\u big for Lopez, that has an expiring contract as well, a young PG\SG in Bayless to compete for PG\SG minutes with recently signed Jordan Farmar and Terrence Williams....and Rudy as a throw in who goes to a big market he wanted and under an owner, Prokhorov, who has a euroleague background and likely some familiarity with him....fits into his "global brand" that he mentioned....

Harris wasn't happy last year, has a big deal with 3 years left....they could totally unload his salary by not picking up Przybilla, and they get 2 young guys in Bayless\Rudy, and position themselves to make a run at some FA next year perhaps? and also, Thorn isn't there to block the deal ths time.....

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing this blown up into a bigger deal including LA and Favors.....that is if NJ decided to spend thier "future" capspace now on LA's contract which looks better after the recent signings....

I was thinking the same thing about LMA and Favors before I watched Favors in the Orlando summer league. Favors just looked terrible. He just didn't look right to me. I know he is young but he just looked like a bust written all over him.

Maybe- I, like so many, did not watch New Jersey last year. And playing on a team like New Jersey must have been such a demoralizing, soul-sucking humiliation that it must have had some effect on his game. But Miller is efficient too, for a PG, and we don't have to make assumptions and magically dismiss a part of his game from the equation to realize that.

Your point about him being a better perimeter defender which would help Oden is the best reason I've read as to why he might be an upgrade. However if he's hurt, and judging from his last four years in the league this is a likely scenario, then his defensive ability won't really help much. Our backup PG position is so weak right now the thought of our starter going down is pretty unpleasant.

This team is NOT at a point where it needs to trade proven for unproven, especially with bigs.

I agree but read about a rumor at the draft we were offered trading LMA for Harris and the #3 pick which would be Favors. I think that was the rumor. I can't remember if there was more to it.
