I didn't see this question until now, but I'd like to answer it. Yes, marijuana laws (and morays) are different today, but it was illegal in those years. I think the most famous of those was the one where Wallace and Stoudamire were stopped driving back from Seattle; that would still be illegal.A lot of the guys associated with the “Jail Blazer”, moniker were judged mostly for marijuana which while still against some laws, and some rules for professions, is looked at much differently today. In fact many of the journalists who pushed the Jail Blazer moniker are for legalization of the substance they demonized the players for.
So I have two questions how different would that team have been viewed today? And what prompted the writing of the book?
How long did it take to write?...sorry if someone asked this alreadyI didn't see this question until now, but I'd like to answer it. The player problems in those years went far beyond smoking pot. So I don't think the team would have been viewed as any less an anomaly now as then -- perhaps even more. We'll never see an NBA team with the kind of issues as those again.
I wrote the book because I was contacted by an editor at Skyhorse who felt the story was a worthy subject, and I was the person to write it. So I did.

Looking at the Jailblazers and the Blazers now: The Jailblazer era had a lot of behavioral issues and bad character, but tons of skill and talent. They were contenders for several years in the early 2000's. The current iteration of Blazers are wholesome in character and well behaved both on and off the court, but are young and lack experience. There is talent in Dame and CJ for sure, but the teams overall talent is lacking comparatively. They are not the contenders the jailblazers were. So this is my question. Does having a contending talent filled championship worthy team come at the price of bad behaviors?
Kerry liked your question and said I should give you the book.
Congrats!
