He's bothered by the fact that the Nets are going to give Keyon Dooling 10 million dollars to do the job the Marcus' wants to do, but hasn't worked hard enough for it.

There are a lot of idiots on this board...Marcus is talented as hell and only 22 years old. He was injured most of last year and spent all of his first year backing up Jason Kidd who played a lot of minutes.

I still think this kid will be a very good nba starter...maybe not an allstar but still very good.

He clearly has offensive talent, he constantly acknowledges that he has defensive deficiencies that need to improve, his biggest problems seem to be confidence related, and he sometimes plays like he's overwhelmed, which is common for young point guards and tends to improve as they get older.

He's really not a hopeless player. He's got the talent to be an NBA point guard, it's just not clear whether his head will be level enough to ever run an NBA offense. That's something that can improve - therefore, there's still some hope.

I personally don't think he's going to ever amount to anything in Jersey, but I could see him becoming a good backup, possibly even a starter on another team.

Marcus is entering his 3rd NBA season, yet is only 22 years old. He is very talented, having better court vision than any player currently on the Nets roster, He has an underrated shot and actually showed a pretty good stroke that with fine tuning could help stretch the defense of the opposing team. He is a superb passer, note that when he passes to a big man in the block they recieve the pass around there from the waist up...something are bigs didn't previously get from Jason Kidd recently. Yes his defense is suspect, but it seemed that towards the end of the season he was playing harder defensively and was trying to commit to being a better defensive player...his recent weight loss may help him gain quickness necessary to improving this aspect of his game. He may have had character issues coming out of the draft, but he seems to have grown up recently and by all accounts is doing the right things, saying the right things and trying to make himself a better basketball player. I'm sorry but I don't see what's wrong with wanting to give this kid a chance...he has the talent and seems to be willing to work...why not let him?

At this point, it goes beyond talent and to what he has upstairs and in his heart. Youth is no longer an excuse.

omg... i am with you on this... i believe in marcus and i really think he should be the one backin up devin... i think he and devin can be the perfect compliment to each other... and last year when u had both of em on the court it didnt hurt. give the kid this season... hes healthy... and supposedly in better shape.

He's no superstar or anything, but for where he was drafted, he was a steal. He can play.

Marcus has God-given ability but lacks basketball IQ and drive. But to say youth is not an excuse for someone who is entering only their third NBA season and is at the ripe old age of 22 years is absurd. Like I said in a previous post, everything has been handed to him on a silver platter. This is the first year hes truly being shown the door and I would like to wait one more year to see whether he has anything to prove. If he shows up this year, stinks the joint, then let his rookie contract expire.

Has he generally idled, or even regressed? Sure. He also was coming off surgery, and was entering the most dysfunctional clubhouse in the league. I think you're right to say that right now, youth is no longer an excuse. I DO, however, think it was a valid excuse for LAST year. You seem to be saying he's out of chances - I think he has one left.

I think he gets at least until the beginning of trading season to show some improvement. Everyone keeps saying he has 0 trade value. Well, we're not winning anything next year, so we might as well give him a chance to play - it's a lot more likely his trade value would increase rather than decrease.
