DC Police Find 5 Fetuses in Home of Anti-Abortion Activist Lauren Handy
Lauren Handy is one of nine people accused of blocking access to a D.C. abortion clinic in 2020

Washington, D.C., officers discovered five fetuses inside the Capitol Hill home where an anti-abortion activist lives, police say.

Police went to 28-year-old Lauren Handy's home in the 400 block of 6th Street SE on Wednesday afternoon to investigate a tip about potential bio-hazard material at the house, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.

The medical examiner's office collected the fetuses, and police are investigating, the department told News4. No further information was available about the fetuses, including where they came from.

Handy is one of nine anti-abortion activists who were charged Wednesday with federal civil rights offenses after they blocked access to a reproductive health center and streamed it on Facebook, federal prosecutors said.

The charges include violations of a federal law known as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, or the FACE Act, which prohibits physically obstructing or using the threat of force to intimidate or interfere with a person seeking reproductive health services. The law also prohibits damaging property at abortion clinics and other reproductive health centers.

The nine – Handy, and Jonathan Darnel, 40, of Virginia; Jay Smith, 32, and John Hinshaw, 67, and William Goodman, 52, of New York; Joan Bell, 73, of New Jersey; Paulette Harlow, 73, Jean Marshall, 72, of Massachusetts; and Heather Idoni, 61, of Michigan – also face a charge of conspiracy against rights.

Prosecutors allege the group “engaged in a conspiracy to create a blockade at the reproductive health care clinic.” It was unclear, from court papers, how they met.

I was wondering why my post with the 10 dead baby jokes got deleted? I worked really hard for about 15 seconds to find those jokes on google and post them in this most appropriate of threads. Maybe it's because most of the jokes were not
about actually killing babies, but about babies that were already dead, or would die only if a particular action were to take place. I think I get it, now.

There were a couple of complaints about it so it was temporarily pulled so staff could decide it there was anything wrong with it. We talked, not seeing a problem, so it's undeleted.

With a blender.

2.
How do you get them out again?
With Doritos.

3.
What is funnier than a dead baby?
A dead baby in a clown costume.

Nail it’s other hand to the floor

No one cries when you chop up the baby.

6.

Depends how hard you throw them.

In my non-legal-based reading of this I'm seeing "perinatal" being conflated with "perinatal death." You have a medical definition being used instead of the legal definition.

In this latest article and the original article, both are basing horrific assumptions about the medical usage of perinatal.

The inference that you and the authors of both articles are making is that this is some sneaky way half of America is going to use to kill babies. I can't state enough just how ludicrous and insulting that is. It's a dishonest argument. And you trying to double down with slippery slope is ridiculous. A real slippery slope is not providing pregnant women with free medical care. A real slippery slope is not providing newborns with free medical care. There is no secret liberal conspiracy to kill babies.

I strongly suggest you look at more complete terms such as perinatal death and perinatal mortality to understand what the proposed law is and isn't about.

It's a poorly written but obvious attempt to shield accused/suspected murderers from even being investigated let alone prosecuted, and will never survive it's first appeal to the SCOTUS due to the obvious inequality of treatment for a particular class.

To deny it's clear intent by claiming "pay no attention to the wording, that's not what it's intended to do" is pathetically disingenuous, just like the heinous hack attorneys who were paid to write it.

As a father of a 12 year old Type 1 diabetic, the pro-life, pro-baby family can fuck themselves hard for almost unanimously voting against lowering the price of INSULIN. Cover your eyes and ears but I hope those who voted no against this die painful deaths. There isn’t a single good reason to vote against it. Fuck them and their bullshit pro life garbage.

What bill was this? And how did you manage to get such specific demographics on who voted against it? I’ve never seen the “pro baby pro life family” listed as a voting block.
As far as I can tell, one of the only times you see Democrat and Republican politicians working together is when it’s denying Americans healthcare. Making sure we are all sick and dying is pretty non-partisan as far as politicians are concerned.

Passed the house 232-193. 12 Republicans voted in favor.

I don't think they were funny.
I also don't see a need to censor them but I'm glad they at least discussed it.
Mods trying to do the right thing is all we can ask.

I don't particularly like the dead baby joke genre either. I was just mocking the thread title. The fact that the post in question was briefly censored was the most amusing thing to me. Lastly, in my defense I exercised restraint in only posting 10 of the 50 DBJs from the webpage I found.

"Exercised Restraint!" Your best joke yet.

I've received the following request:

"Someone should maybe at least explain this. Maybe I’m missing something. I must be. This seems outrageous"

While I agree that these jokes might be in poor taste and/or outrageous they are not at the expense of or intended to insult any member directly. We try to moderate things very simply. An outrageous or poor taste rule would be very subjective and very hard to explain in a way for all to follow and for staff to enforce. Now if there were multiple posts with multiple dbjs we would probably look to move the jokes to one of the many joke threads that already exist but that didn't seem necessary.

And I want to thank the person for asking about this. Good question!

Woman arrested in Starr County on murder for ‘illegal abortion’

A woman was arrested Thursday and charged with murder for having a self-induced “illegal abortion.”

According to the Starr County Sheriff’s Office, Lizelle Herrera, 26, was arrested and served with an indictment “on the charge of Murder after Herrera did then and there intentionally and knowingly cause the death of an individual by self-induced abortion.”

Herrera is currently in custody at the Starr County Detention Center. She faces a surety bond of $500,000.

The case remains under investigation.

Her arrest comes as Texas enacted one of the strictest abortion laws in the country last year in SB 8 which encourages private citizens to sue individuals or organizations that help people get an abortion after six weeks of gestation. The law is currently being contested in court.
