Don't have the patience to go look in what thread it was in...... BUT I TOLD YOU SUCKAS THE THE KINGS WOULD BE PLAYING IN SEATTLE NEXT SEASON! The HCP just woke up and is seeing things on the twitters that this is going to happen. I don't post everything I hear, but I snuck that one in there FAMS! Go look Nerds....

I hope this isn't true. If you lose an NBA team it's for a good reason. Seattle shouldn't get a second chance.....yet.

Except Seattle didn't loose their team for good reason. It was stolen by Clay Bennett.

I respect your opinion, but that team was STOLEN from Seattle.

I know you're right, but I don't like Seattle so I'm bias...but really, if the public would have voted to fund a new arena they would have stayed right? Excuse me if I'm ignorant

Well under that argument I doubt the Blazer's would be in Portland. I know times have changed but we could have had a NFL team before Seattle did if we would have voted for it.

I can accept your blind irrational hate against Seattle, cause I feel the same way about LA. However, Clay Bennett made it near impossible to get the vote passed. His terms were so unreasonable and ridged that the team was forced to move. I will feel bad for Sacramento if they loose their team but not as bad because they are not as big of an NBA city as Seattle and they really did have a chance to turn it around there.

A lot of history between our two teams. I wold love to get that I-5 Rivalry back

Being a huge Blazer homer and Sonic hater that's stuck living in Seattle, I don't think that's a fair take on it. Bennett did a good job of disenfranchising local voters and stirring up the faction of anti-sports politicos. Watching his approach versus Chris Hansen is a night and day difference.

If anything, much as I have disliked the Sonics, I've thought the Sonic fans have been extremely supportive of their team. The last season they were in town attendance was high. The way they lost the team was just flat out wrong and I think you're oversimplifying things a lot.

Seattle Kings sounds good to me.

Seattle still has the right to take back the Sonics name and history should they ever get an NBA franchise again, as I recall. They'll go back to being the Sonics, I'm sure.

Interesting. Do they also get to reclaim the nba Championship?

I believe so, yes; that comes with the history. I'll have to check again though. People were very sure back when the move happened, but it's been so long I may be mis-remembering.

It's actually pretty weird. The new Sonics team will share the history with the OKC team. A lot of the memorabilia and, I think, the actual trophy are still in Seattle.

Yes, Seattle does retain their history, name, and logo.

"It was a condition of the deal for us that we keep the history, the name, the logo and the memorabilia," Carr said. "That was a demand from Day 1. To that extent, the paragraph was put in at our insistence. It got changed a lot in the end."

Carr is Tom Carr, city attorney for Seattle.

I'm sure you're right, but I'll admit to having an irrational hatred of all Seattle(Washington in general) teams. You say the "last" season attendance was high..what about the years before that when they didn't think the team could possibly move? Did they take the Sonics for granted? And I just have a hard time seeing that kind of thing happening in Portland, for many reasons, but if it came down to it, I feel like Blazer fans would put up more of a fight to keep the team in Portland, like riots n shit!

Like I said, I know I'm biased, but I honestly don't think Seattle is a very good sports city, all things considered.

More scoop from ESPN article: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3545175

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The championship banners and trophies from the SuperSonics' best days will be staying in Seattle. But the flat screen TV in the coaches' locker room, that is going to Oklahoma City.

The city of Seattle and Clay Bennett's ownership group have divvied up the artifacts of the NBA's past in the Pacific Northwest, with the details outlined in a settlement obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.

AP Photo
The settlement between Clay Bennett and the city of Seattle calls for items such as the Sonics' championship trophy to be placed in a curatorship at Seattle's Museum of History and Industry.
The agreement calls for Bennett's Professional Basketball Club to leave any banners, trophies and retired jerseys. Those will be placed in a curatorship at Seattle's Museum of History and Industry, although the new Oklahoma City franchise would be allowed to borrow them to put on display periodically and make copies.

I could be wrong, but I think the Sonics franchise is now the OKC Thunder, and therefore retain all the Sonics previous accomplishments, including any NBA championships. If the Kings move to Seattle they take the Kings history with them, regardless if they change names. So the Seattle whatever got screwed by the refs in game 6 of the the 2002 WCF!

And, except that you're exactly wrong, you're totally right.

The worst thing you can say about Seattle sports fans is that they jump on the bandwagon of whichever local team is most successful. Given that they have the M's, Seahawks, Huskies and possibly Sonics, they've had a lot of chances to claim a favorite. Throw in the soccer team and Storm and you have even more possibilities. Whichever team is doing well will have legions of fans claiming they supported that frontrunner during the down time, but that's usually BS.

That all said, the Sonics fans were pretty solid fans throughout their history (although, also highly annoying lol.) Basically, prior ownership screwed up in the Key Arena renovation and the building was a dog the day it opened. Not enough suites or seats. It was immediately one of the smallest NBA arenas -- the Rose Garden opened the following season and it really hit home for me what a dog the Key was when I saw it. That really hurt local appetite for building yet another arena and Bennett only made the situation worse with the way they handled it.

I don't know the numbers, but it wasn't like it was a distressed franchise economically. The OKC guys wanted a team in their town and it was the easiest one to buy.

I posted above that it's actually different than that. Guessing that the Chris Hansen group leaves the Kings name and history in Sacramento...although, I guess he could maybe give it to Kansas City or one of the other cities the Kings called home. If I remember right, the Kings have called a fair number of cities home.

Ya the Kings were in K City and possibly Rochester, NY if I remember correctly. Other than that I appreciate those that are more knowledgable on the subject educating me. However, I still hate Seattle sports teams, although I find myself rooting for Russel Wilson. Ya I'm that guy

Yeah, I hear you. Personally, I'd be glad to see the rivalry back and get to see the Blazers when they come to town.

Damn HCP, a two hour video..I was not going to watch it...but am damn glad that I did . thanks !

Yes you are wrong. Seattle will go back to being the Sonics and they, not the Thunder, will have the championship history. This was part of the deal when OKC took the team.
