Kings vs Rangers for the Cup

I am sensing a bit of pessimism from the big boys of this board. :)

I am picking the rangers in 6. I don't think I can ever bring myself to picking against them like some other fans do.

We'll see. I am not making a pick. All I will say is it will be a tough challenge for us. Certainly we can win, but we will need to play our A game.

We'll see.

When the Rangers were down 3-1 to the Pens and posters were jumping off the bandwagon at alarming rates, i preached patience b/c i knew the Pens weren't that good. All those years when posters like Pasta and Caged spent all their efforts criticizing the team, players and management i tried to stay objective knowing the ECF was so weak that we always had a chance.

Now that we've made it to the SCF's and previous full-time haters are suddenly back to being die-hard Ranger fans i try to remain objective b/c i realize the Western Conference is a lot better than the East, and that the Kings are a very good, complete team that has the skill, character and is battle tested.

I don't think we'll be run out of the rink and do think we will put up a very tough battle and can conceivably win the series, but "gun to my head" i would have to pick the Kings to come out on top.

Chuck and 31 you guys are being depressing. Only positive thoughts please. The hell with any evidence to the contrary. LOL

I don't think we are being downers, I think we are just trying to be realistic. I don't know which team will win, but I do know we are playing a very good team, and will need to play really well to win the series. That's just reality IMO.

It's the finals so that's implied without repeating it continuously. You're getting the best the other conference has to offer.

I'd be thrilled if this went 7, from an excitement standpoint and it would mean they were very competitive, plus they could win it and wrap up the season where it started. Of course winning at MSG would be optimal but i don't see the Kings losing in less than a 7 gamer.

As I said, I dont like the match up and am picking the Rangers in 6 based on my heart more than my head.

If the Rangers win this series and the Cup its because Henrik wins the Conn Smythe. I think the Rangers are going to win game 1. I think the Kings will be flat. They just played a very long emotional 7 game series vs the Cup champs and the Rangers can absolutely steal game 1 off 2 days rest for LA.

But the games will get more difficult as the series goes along so I really think NY needs a win on Wed.

Also, I think Henrik has to steal 2 games this series too and I think he can

Very true, but I also think it is deeper than that. With this matchup I think it makes it even more of a challenge. I think the Kings have like 200 + more hits than us in the playoffs thus far. That is their game, they pound you, and that doesn't mesh well with our team IMO. They out-hit the Hawks by 57 hits in the WCF, that's big.

I am sure we are preparing for that type of physical play, so we'll see how we handle it. I still think Staal is going to be huge for us in this series. Our key IMO.

Yes Dis, game 1 is huge IMO. If we cannot win that game coming off of extra rest, and the Kings having little rest after a long and emotional WCF, flying back from Chicago early Monday morning, that is not a good sign for us. And to me would make game 2 a must win.

Guys like Hagelin MZ and MSL will have to use their speed and size to find pockets for making plays, just as Im sure LA wants to use their overall size advantage. Interesting dichotomy of styles.

Nice use of the word dichotomy...:). I like seeing that word on a hockey message board.

one team's luck will run out..

the rangers win this series if it goes to game 7, no team has ever won 4 game 7's in same year

the kings win this in 6

i have absolutley no concerns in this series, i am proud of this team, i will sit back and enjoy.... BUT!!!!!!! if girardi or staal blow the series with thier boneheaded play, i will f n FREAK

So you will not freak if Hank let's up a bad goal or has one rough game?

LA leads all teams in the playoffs in hits with 898. The Rangers are second with 587.

LA has 510 hits on the road compared to only 388 at home.

In game seven, LA out hit Chicago 43 to 28.

I know one thing is sure guaranteed. Pasta and struds will be freaking out and jumping ship as soon as the rangers have a rough game :)

LA is very physical team, thats for sure. It will be interesting to see if the rangers smaller players can withstand the physicality. Flyers are very physical team too and they were able to skate circles around them. We'll see.

this guy ordered a hagz jersey and got this lol

pardon me if someone posted this but its 8-5 odds favoring the kings, thats not so bad, most thought 2 to 1

Another key factor in the Cup will be the officiating and the Rangers ability to capitalize on a penalty prone King team, the Kings played one more game than the Rangers but took 19 more penalties in the playoffs. I think guys like Moore and Dorsett can get under the Kings skin and if so AV has to have the PP humming.

Hopefully our D shapes up a bit and turns Gaborik back into the invisible man we're all familiar with. The thing that actually worries me most is that Quick hasn't really been great this postseason. He's due. And if he catches fire, it's going to be a rough series.

Taking one in LA will be key.

The only reason Gaborik was invisible, was because he was basically the only true scorer this team had. Teams keyed on Gaborik for 60 minutes, making his life a living hell.

If the Rangers come out skating and hitting hard for a full 60 minutes, they can beat anybody. Hank needs to be GREAT, and the defense needs to be even GREATER in front of him. The Rangers are faster, so I expect to see some odd man rushes on Quick. Rangers in 6 ... I'm a Rangers fan, can't pick against them.

31 and 71, you are not Nostrodamous, cut the prediction bullshit and stop going against you're team

The Rangers are not the better team but I just think its their year. They are going to find a way to win this series

Its a great stat in our favor Struds

The last 3 SC champs let the NHL playoffs in 5 on 5 goal differential.....Hmmmm
