Klay Thompson made history on Monday night. (Associated Press)
The Golden State Warriors of the past three seasons are famous for setting records. They’ve won 73 games in a regular season, had Stephen Curry set virtually every three-point record imaginable, and established new standards for what it means to run a high-powered offense. It’s hard to be surprised by them anymore.

Still, what Klay Thompson did against the Indiana Pacers on Monday Night in Oakland managed to rewire a few more brains. The Warriors’ No. 3 scoring option set a new NBA season high with 60 points on 21-of-33 FG, 8-of-14 3FG, and 10-of-11 FT. That showing set a new career high for Thompson, who two seasons ago put up 52 on a night when he scored an NBA-record 37 points in a single quarter. Monday was even better for the Warriors All-Star, who started the season in a slump as the team integrated Kevin Durant into the starting lineup.

Oh, and Thompson scored those 60 points in all of 29 minutes and three seconds of court time. No player had ever scored so many points in fewer than 30 minutes of play in the shot clock era.

Yes, you read that correctly. Thompson went to the bench for good with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter and the Warriors well on their way to a 142-106 blowout win. If not for the very lopsided score, Thompson could have flirted with one of the highest-scoring performances in NBA history. Instead, he had to settle for the 66th 60-point night in NBA history, the 13th since 1994, and a smaller piece of NBA history.

I would've wanted to stay in the game.

Ironic that Monta was the one chasing around Klay all night trying to stop him......If one remembers, when they drafted Curry, he went off in the media about how it was HIS team and they made a mistake that would send the team in the wrong direction.

amazing.

i wish they'd just let people that hot stay in and go for it.

probably unpopular, but i also really wanted to see how much Love could have got the other day too. If we won, then yes - go for it, set a record, cool to see, want the W tho

Sixty points in 29 minutes! Did he score on commercial break? Is it him or does that total indicate how awful the Indiana D was.

>At least the revered Wilt Chamberlain edged his percentage per minute. When I was a kid I had an authentic Wilt Chamberlain Spaulding basketball. No wonder I'm biased.

Wilt's is much more impressive because he maintained that pace over a longer time period. (And without a shot clock speeding the pace.)

For example: One could probably find players who scored more ppm over a 15 minute span; or an 8 minute span; or a 4 minute span; etc.

You guys gotta remember, Wilt didn't hit any 3s.

What's the most impressive is Lisa Leslie. In high school, she had 101........wait for it..........wait......for........it......... IN ONE GOD DAMNED HALF of basketball! SIXTEEN MINUTES FAMS. Thats 6.312 points per minute FAMS!

I don't care if you are a woman, a donkey or an actor on some show that nobody watches and claimed our Blazers would win 64 games this season and finish ahead of the Warriors in the standings.......that's impressive!

There's a bunch of guys in the NBA, today, and in the past, that could score 100 on this guy.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darrall_Imhoff

He was the biggest guy on his team, listed at 6'10 and 220 pounds.

He was the only center, and only played 20 minutes, the next two biggest guys, were 6'9 and 6'6

And before someone try's saying "Bill Russell was 6'9"

I know.

Wilt's is much more impressive because he maintained that pace over a longer time period. (And without a shot clock speeding the pace.)

In the 1995 NBA Finals Reggie Miller scored 8 points in 9 seconds, that's a pace of 53 points per minute! :bgrin:

When was it when the Blazers scored 10 points in I think 56 seconds to win a game? 10 points a minute...that's insane for any team.
