We’re still very much hearing that Andre Miller is in the mix to become a Blazer. The Blazers have been a bit schizophrenic here regarding trades. Do they make a move or not? I’m hearing yes, but we’ll find out soon enough.

Miller? Yawn.

Doesn't make us much better on defense.

Can't shoot.

Would be rendered completely useless at the end of games when we put the ball in Brandon's hands. Normally, we space the floor with the others on the floor, but Miller is zero threat to hit an outside shot so we'd basically be playing 4-on-5 when we had the ball.

I doubt this guy knows what he's talking about, but I'd hate a deal to bring in Andre Miller.

i disagree, i think he makes alot better on defense. not saying he is first team defense but anybody is better than what we have now(sergio, blake)

Not a great shooter, getting up there in age...but definitely an underated PG....

Yes, he would make this team significantly better...

Reading the responses:

"Gee, if they'll give that for Amare, could we give them Rose, Jeffries and Lee for that package?"
LOL

OK well that's not exactly a ringing endorsement of the guy.

Besides, he makes $10 million and is in the last year of his contract. Explain to me who we trade to Philly for him and why Philly makes that deal.

If anything, the Sixers are looking to shed salary at this point, not take more on.

I'd like a deal that gets us Miller, provided we don't give up too much. Think about it: who have been the players to really make a difference to the team that acquires them by trade in the last few years?

* Nash, obviously. He completely transformed that Phoenix team.
* Billups this season, clearly.
* Devin Harris for NJ, apparently.
* Jason Kidd for NJ previously (two trips to the finals!)
* Sam Cassell for Minny and then the Clippers
* Derek Fisher for the Lakers (look it up!)

All PGs. Miller also made a big difference to Denver and then Philly. (He and Billups should both have an asterisk, though, because you can't discount the effect of simply dumping AI.)
PGs by their very nature can have the most effective veteran influence. We could do with some veteran influence. We need calming down and directing on the floor. Miller's personality and ego is not such that it would put anyone's noses out of joint, but I think he can have a good effect. We have a LOT of talent, we just need to get it working together. A good PG knows that and can (for example) make sure that Oden gets the ball more than he is, but that the other players get the ball enough so that they don't feel cheated and stop trying.
And hey, if he's useless at the end of games THEN PUT IN A SHOOTER INSTEAD. That's not that hard. Alternatively, put the ball in HIS hands and make Brandon a shooter. He's pretty good at that, too.

AMAZING PEOPLE DONT GET THIS...

WE NEED VETS!!! WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Miller fits perfectly at PG...for now. Hes a better defender then blake and sergio and bayless. Playoffs are halfcourt goes and miller is a floor general. he cant tell outlaw where to go...hopefully out of portland

Nobody has answered my question yet ... who (that we'd be willing to part with) does Philly take for Miller and why do they do it? Usually if you are giving up an expiring contract, you want someone who is going to make you better in the short and or long-term.

Philly knows they aren't competing this year for a playoff run, so they're likely looking to build on their young core of guys like Iguodala, Young and Dalembert.

It amazes me how myopic fans can be, without even looking at both sides of the deal.

because portland doesn't actually need vets.

How about this? Get a younger, cheaper PG to replace Miller, plus two players who might help, and if they don't, their contracts expire.

Or, if Philly's in financial trouble, and is offering Miller only on the condition that either Dalembert or Brand be taken off their books, enter RLEC.

I guess.

I just don't see Philly making that deal just to bring in Steve Blake for an additional year.

I think they'd love guys like Jerryd Bayless or Rudy, and I don't think we're giving those kinds of players up.

And why the fuck would Portland offer them? Andre Miller is a free agent after this season. No way Portland gives up Rudy/Bayless or even Blake for a half season rental of Miller.

I agree with Mixum.

well, maybe except for the Outlaw dig.

If its easy and painless to do so, Miller would be great to have as a floor general. I've been pushing to acquire him for about 3-4 seasons now.

That's exactly what I was saying. Re-read my posts.

I wouldn't trade much of value for him. If anything, I'd look into signing him in the off-season, if Portland can't find a younger player to use the money on.

I don't know what you are talking about. Philly is 7th seed as we speak and have won 13 of their last 17.
Sounds like a playoff run to me.

Fair question. The story I read a few weeks back, was that they would seriously consider something along the lines of RLEC and future draft picks. That way, they would keep the advantage of the expiring contract, and add something for the future.

Obviously, the deal doesn't fly unless Portland thinks Miller is willing to re-sign at a more reasonable salary to play vet mentor to a young team.

yep. now that brand is out for the year, they actually have a shot at making the 2nd round(if they can get to the 4th or 5th seed).

They might make the playoffs, but let's be serious ... nobody thinks they'll remotely challenge Boston, Cleveland or Orlando to even get out of the first round. Philly knows it needs to build for the future.

who says they play any of those 3 in the first round?

We're still after a guy whom we've never been after.

Yeah.

Probably the same delusional guy who thinks Philly is 4 or a 5 seed. :biglaugh:

They're a game out of the 5th seed... they're probably a better team than Miami and on par with Atlanta and Detroit (who are the current 4 and 5 seeds). I don't think it's delusional for them to go for the 4th seed and second round...

they are only a game out of 5th place and have gone 13-8 without brand this season(compared to 13-16 with him). now that brand is out for the year, they definitely are a team capable of being the 4th or 5th seed and advancing to the 2nd round.

We trade: Bayless/Blake/Raef/Outlaw
We get: Andre Miller & Iguodala

Philly out: Miller/Iggy
Philly in: Amare/Blake

Phoenix out: Amare
Phoenix in: Raef/Bayless/Outlaw

this one is perfect. I want it, we have a small log jam and at the end of the season have to decide if we:

re-sign Miller and let either Webster or Batum go
go after a different PG and let either Webster or Batum go
move brandon to point and keep webster and batum (or go after different SF)

Philly opens up time for Thad Young (though they need help at the two and have a lot of 4's left) and saves some dough over the long run (amare expires sooner than Iggy) and Phoenix saves their boatload of money while getting some young talent back.

We could look like this:

Miller/Sergio
Roy/Rudy
Iggy/Batum
Aldridge/Frye
Oden/Pryzbilla

next year
Roy/Sergio
Webster/Rudy or (Rudy/Batum)
Iggy/Batum or (Iggy/Webster)
Aldridge/Freeland
Oden/Pryzbilla

Our first unit could play big, defensive, mean slow-paced basketball and then our bench could come in and open it up. I'd love that balance and complimentary tension between our two units. And our defense (in the first unit at least) would be off the charts. Sure little guys would get by us sometimes (though Iggy can guard little guys well), but they'd have a lot of size awaiting them and we could post up anyone (at almost any position).

The answer is "no one." Philly is gathering momentum and will probably be back in the playoffs if they stand pat, so there would be little incentive to try and swap out floor generals with only 30 or so games left in the season -- too hard to integrate that position especially on a shortened time-line.

Agreed. I don't see why the 76ers would be eager to move him, either. But primarily because they're in the middle of a playoff race, not because they're going to be rebuilding and/or looking to save money.
