<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> March 9, 2005 -- During July's free- agency period, Isiah Thomas will be searching for a big young center and an athletic combo guard to play with Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford. It is why Thomas will have interest in the Wizards' roster.

Wizards guard Larry Hughes and center Kwame Brown are both free agents, the latter restricted. They both will be on Isiah's summer wish list, despite Brown's awful 0-for-8, two-point showing last night in the Knicks' 93-83 win. The Wizards are notoriously thrifty and may not be able to pay both of them. Raised in Charleston, S.C., Brown said New York could be a consideration, saying, "D.C.'s a big city, every option is open, but now I'm focusing on getting better."

I think the Knicks only have a mid level exception to offer this season. I don't think either Larry nor Kwame will accept it.

I read that in the paper and it isn't really a rumor. I wouldn't mind having Larry, but if we don't get him, it's all good. The Knicks need a center some how and if they go into the lottery, then we'll draft one if we don't, one of those expiring contracts I think will be used. I think Isiah is more interested in Curry thn he is Kwame. I'd rather have a Petro, a Splitter or anyone else other than those two.

you guys had a good center and you traded him away. i still dont get that deal at all.

Nazr was a decent center. Also we got two 1st round picks so it isn't too bad. This horrible trade gave us a 5-1 record so it doesn't look to dumb at the momment.

ATL is rumored that they are going to offer Kwame about 4 years, 38 mil. I don't think NY will top that. As for Larry Hughes, Ernie Grunfeld said that he would spend whatever it takes to keep Hughes, so he isn't going anywhere.

Kwame in Atlanta that would be an interesting move for him to make. I would imagine the Wizards do a sign and trade if that happens.

I agree, Hughes isn't going anywhere.

I think the Knicks should continue to improve their bench and build a deep team. Once they figure out who the coach is going to be, then they can start making trades and big moves in free agency.

I am tired of the New York media. Putting junk in ink just for the sake of making news. This is complete crap, even if it's true, even Isiah knows it's worthless to bring in another power forward. If there is some substance to the story, they don't have to print it if the story is trash. Why bother? A waste of ink and time. Rumors like this can just ruin a mood.

yea

its really annoying that NY media tends to make stories outta thin air....

Hughes won't sign with the Knicks, Kwame could though.

Larry's stock is way too high to sign with the Knicks.

who said it was horrible or dumb? i just said i dont get it. and regardless of how you played over the passed 6 games, trading away one of the hottest commodities in the nba (a legit center who can actually play) doesnt seem like a good move. but hey...if a 5-1 record justifies in your mind trading away your center, then thats just super duper for you

I didn't say you said it was dumb. So many other people said it was dumb. Yeah, Nazr was alright but I'm not all that dissapointed. We got 2 1st rounders to get yonug players and with my boy Aguirre around, I'm not scared. When Nazr first came here, he was a <u>scrub</u> Big Time! I remember he used to get 2 fouls in the first 30 seconds (I'm not joking.) He used to have the most horrific foot work ever and his range never got any further than 7 feet at best. Even in the summer, Vin Baker had him in a tight race for the starting spot! That booze did a number on Baker and he still almost took the starting center from Nazr! So basically this bum was completely transformed into a decent player, due to Mark Aguire. I am convinced that any center with some athletic ability and a decent work ethic could be transformed into a pretty solid center. The Aguire work out plan is very effective and I'm sure a young talent will prosper because of it. The 5-1 record for us has been more rare for us than the center position so on the real, it is super duper

even if knicks get them, they still wont be 1st in the divison next year... watch out for Nets next yr

^I guess we'll have to wait 365 days from now to see how everything pans out.

Aguirre, at 30 years your senior, is your boy?

As for Nazr, yeah he was a scrub, but he wasn't one when he was traded by Isiah. This guy actually didn't do too bad in Atlanta a few seasons before being traded to New York too, averaging 10 and 8. He stepped up his game in New York and actually became an All-Star candidate in the East. The fact is, when he was traded, he would've been a starter on 20 teams in the league. Trading him for Rose and two picks seem good right now, and might be in the future too, but if those picks turn into mediocre players, would it have been good for New York? Even if you guys make the playoffs this season, the lack of a true center would guarantee a sweep against Miami or Detroit.

Yup, he is my boy. We're cool like that.

Yeah, but what he did on the Hawks didn't really grab much attention because they went 33-49. Nazr was alright. He was in no way shape or form untouchable. We got a work horse with <u>TONS</u> of experience, and much more defense. Sure we lost some size, but Malik Rose brings more to the table for us than Nazr. We also get 2 first round picks which can be used for us and getting us another Nazr if we're really desperate. So many people think Nazr is so great and everything and the funny thing is he was drafted with the 29th pick. So we get so much in Malik, and get two potential Nazr's. Well last time Kurt was playing center he gave us some good numbers. 14 and 8 is pretty solid and he kept centers out of the paint and the ones who didn't leave, payed for it. I mean it's not like the Knicks even have a shot at making the playoffs. I find that very laughable

This isn't anything new, the Knicks are eyeing a lot of people all the time, or at least their media says they are. They won't get either of them, both will make at least 1-2 million more than MLE, and neither are going to take pay cuts because they want to play in New York or anything like that. Also the Knicks have nothing to trade that the Wizards will want, so it's not going to happen.

Kwame is a PF/C, he's 7'0.5 270 lbs, he's a legit center if put in the position, so he's actually not just a PF

Well Penny and Tim Thomas' expiring contracts are good trade bait. I don't think we'll do that because those contracts aren't worth the Hughes and/or Brown imo.

If TT keeps up his play I think the Wizards would trade Kwame Brown for him. The Wizards will be willing to deal Brown and the Wizards back up small forward didnt look all that good. TT's contract is expiring anyway and he'll be a better backup small forward for Jamison than Profit(backup small forward?).

Thomas for Brown would not be a close enough salary match and Thomas is way overpaid. Kwame ate his way out of PF,he's got C bulk now but the quickness is gone. The Wiz would be smart to take a good deal for Kwame, but T Thomas won't get you a round 2 pick.

A couple of throw ins on Washington's side could work out. Tim Thomas' has a huge expiring contract and can give you a good player. Thomas can't give you a round 2 pick??? I don't know, I'm sure if Dale Davis can be traded for Baron Davis, maybe Tim Thomas can give you a little more than a second rounder. I think so at least.

kwame brown would be a fairly good addition if u work out a deal... as for a larry, i'd love to see him with the knicks... maybe wiz can work a sign-and-trade involving hughes and crawford nd other scrubs from both teams...

Hold on there. Let's be serious. Larry Hughes is not coming to the Knicks. He's just not. Maybe years from now when he's way past his prime and ridiculously overpaid we'll probably work something out to get him. But this season...nope. The Wizards are going to sign him to a nice, long, plump contract.

Brown we can probably have. TT's an expiring contract and would be a good back up small forward, we can surely work out a sign and trade with the Wizards for Brown. Maybe they'd have to throw in some fillers but we should be able to get him.

Yea, but then the Wizards need expiring contracts why? So yea like you said, they aren't worth them, but the Wizard also don't really need expiring contracts because all the big contracts they have are on players they want.

Hughes isn't locked up.

I think og15 knows that.

There's little to no chance that Hughes will end up in NY. The Wizards already have their core, and don't need to complete a sign and trade with the Knicks because they really don't have any attractable players (to the Wizards). Plus, whatever contract Hughes wants, he might get from the Wizards, who are his obvious first option. Washington won't make a sign and trade with Hughes to NY unless it improves their team, which isn't likely. Expiring contracts won't do them much good, because like ogie said, all of the big contracts they have, are for players the Wizards want (Arenas, Jamison, Haywood).

I know there's little chance that Hughes is coming to NY.

If we want Kwame, I think any expiring contract will be somewhat interesting especially if it's 14 million.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting og15:</div><div class="quote_post">Yea, but then the Wizards need expiring contracts why? So yea like you said, they aren't worth them, but the Wizard also don't really need expiring contracts because all the big contracts they have are on players they want.</div>

Well maybe they dont need expiring contracts but TT would be a good backup. And his contract will expire at the end of the season so if the Wizards dont want him they can just let him walk.

I don't know if Kwame could be gotten for an expiring contract, because the Wizards do like Kwame, but also neither team would be under the cap with the trade, so the contracts would have to be between 115%, and the Wizards don't have any bad big contracts.

Jamison - $13.8 million
Arenas - $10.2 million
Hughes and Kwame - FA's
Etan - $5.4 million
Haywood - $4.0 million

So what I'm saying is I don't think you guys are thinking it through. First of all, I don't see why the Wizards would trade Kwame to the Knicks for a $14 million expiring contract, because Kwame would start at about let's just say $7 million [probably more like 6.5], that would mean the Wizards have to add $5 million more to make the trade work under trade rules. The Wizards don't have any player they don't want that makes that much [$5+ million] as you can see from what I posted. The 2 other Wizards are Jared Jefferies and Hayes who both make $2 million, and everyone else is expiring.

That means the Wizards would have to do Kwame and Etan for Tim Thomas, Kwame, Haywood and Hayes for Tim Thomas, or Kwame, Haywood and Jeffries for Tim Thomas, so anyone that thinks those trades make any sense please stand up.

So first of all the trade can't even work cap wise one on one, but if it could magically work with just Kwame and Tim Thomas, it still wouldn't make sense for the Wizards because the Knicks first of all can't offer Kwame a contract over MLE because of their cap situation, so that means the Wizards would be the ones going out and proposing or agreeing to a trade of Kwame for Tim Thomas for some reason.

So the trade actually doesn't give the Wizards anything, all it does is save them the amount Kwame would make. If they wanted to save that money, they could just not sign Kwame, and they also wouldn't have to pay an extra $7 million for Tim Thomas one year service which won't help the Wizards at all because they don't need him. Also if they wanted to trade Kwame, they could get much better, they could get another young player + even a draft pick for him. The Wizards could work something like Kwame to the Hawks for Boris Diaw and a future 1st since the Hawks would still be under the cap.

I hope you guys understand....
