perkins was more effective than kaman. a big reason why the celtics lost to the lakers in the finals was that they didnt have the defensive post presence nor the amount of rebounds that perkins provided against a team with two good 7 footers down low.
If the knicks want to contend they need to get themselves someone who contain Dwight defensively. They also need that player to be a better rebounder than amare, and be able to provide a big body in the lane to deflect the driving games of lebron james and derrick rose.
if the knicks can find a player like that, one that will also not mind having all that many touches offensively, as well as making sure fields improves defensively, then they will have a squad to compete with the best of em.
I agree with you about Varejao as he would annoy the shit out of dwight, which it seems is a good tactic to use to bring down his quality of play. noah is unrealistic. id love to see andrew bogut next to amare, but thats a pipedream. Another tactic is too fill up your bench with some good defensive bench players to throw at guys, keeping them in rotation to tire out big men like dwight (not to mention pissing him off quite a bit).
JaVale McGee could help a bit, i dont really know his game so this could be a bad suggestion, but he averges 4th in blocks, if thats any indication, i know he's very athletic for his size which would fit well in ny's system. tyson chandler is another. marc gasol and marcin gortat are purhapse good fits, but again im not sure on them.
