GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- One of the notable holes in the Knicks' roster that will persist after the Carmelo Anthony trade is a capable, defensive-minded center. The Knicks tried to fill that hole with efforts to draw Portland into the deal as the fourth team and bring Marcus Camby back to New York, two people with knowledge of the talks told CBSSports.com.

It wasn't clear what pieces the Knicks would've sent to the Trail Blazers in such a scenario, but both sources said Tuesday afternoon that New York's efforts to get Camby appeared to have failed.

"Looks like a no-go," said one of the sources.

The Blazers are actively shopping Camby, Joel Przybilla and Andre Miller and are very likely to make at least one deal before Thursday's trade deadline. Given the uncertain futures of Brandon Roy and Greg Oden, Portland general manager Rich Cho is trying to flip the expiring contract of Przybilla and the essentially expiring deal of Miller (whose contract is fully non-guaranteed next season) for draft picks and younger players.

There was still a chance that the three-team trade sending Anthony and Chauncey Billups to the Knicks could evolve Tuesday. As of 5 p.m. ET, the teams still had not begun the conference call wiht league officials to approve the trade.

Interesting, though a lot of the players that were good or young promising players either went to Denver (Galo, Felton) or Minnesota (Randolph) so we would be left with crap. Glad we didn't do it.

If cho traded Randolph for camby he should be fired

From another forum I follow from a Knicks fan

Knicks looking into trading Brewer and a 1st round pick they recieved before the deadline to get a bigman

Knicks are also trying to get Dalembert

Brewer and a 1st for Camby would be a good trade. Then add Felton from Denver for one of our picks and you add some solid pieces for the future

It'd really depend on where the 1st round pick would be in the draft.

I like Brewer as a bench player. He's shown some flashes in his career and he can certainly defend.

Wow patty mills and cunningham as starters

I don't know about Patty Mills, but there's certainly a good chance that we roll with Cunningham as our starting center for the rest of the season.

Hah.....oh god....

Brewer is terrible. He's this generation's Trenton Hassell. People overlook his terrible lack of production due to his overrated defensive reputation.

I wouldn't remotely consider trading Camby for Brewer and a pick, unless the pick was likely to be great and unprotected. Because the only value in that deal would be the pick. :)

Brewer's value is around the 10-12th man on a NBA team.

Why would he be a back up? Miller would be traded for more young assets, or maybe to Charlotte in part of a Wallace deal

if we are dumping all our vets including miller there is no reason we shouldn't end up with harris. no reason to settle for felton as a starter.

Are you under the impression that Harris is significantly better than Felton?

You should check their career stats against each other. They are extremely similar, with Felton having the huge advantage in games played per season. Harris has been in the league for a total on 1 year more than Felton, but has only played 10 more games total

Their stats being similar are obviously helped by Harris' being drafted to a good team, and thus not getting handed minutes right away, but hey, why let that get in the way of a poor stat comparison.

the disgruntled NJ version of harris is better than felton.

You should check their career stats against each other.

harris 17.4 PER .550 TS%
felton 14.5 PER .498 TS%

rebound and assist rates similar, defensive stats similar, harris much better scorer.

felton's only advantage is durability. if that's what matters most to you then he might be a better choice. i'd rather take the chance on harris.

SpearsNBAYahoo Knicks actively trying to acquire Portland center Marcus Camby, but source said Blazers are weighing more attractive options.

@dwightjaynes
Just reminding you... in spite of popular opinion, that 'Melo deal still hasn't gone down officially. Things could still be added, you know.

If the Blazers could get Felton/Turiaf for Camby, it would be a steal.

Have to disagree with you here FAMS! We would be getting robbed!

Because getting a 25-year-old PG with a 17.3 PER this season would be getting robbed? Particularly for trading a 37-year-old center coming off of knee surgery? The homerism on this board never ceases to amaze.

Homerism has nothing to do with it. Aside from the fact that I don't care for either Felton or Turiaf, they aren't as good of players regardless of age!
