I think the background looks a little plain but then you said you went for the simple look....It doesn't look bad but it could be better. I love the Kobe pic you used on the right, it's different from the other pics I've seen in sigs. Also, your text needs a little work, it's too plain, you need something that stands out more.

He means like damn this is hard to explain Ill post a tut on it. I know you are looking for a plain sig but this is too plain. Maybe a little stocks in the BG would make it better. No need for the second render on the left and if you are going to do that desasturate it then set it on overlay.
