Have we already picked up Blake's option? Because I'd rather save money by letting Blake go than by letting Freeland and Koponen go. And it only "saves money" against the cap - so it would only matter if we were going to sign a FA. And if the FA is a PG, then let Blake go!

Blake doesn't have an option, it's an unguaranteed contract that can be guaranteed on or before midnight of June 30th ... in other words he's tradeable between now and then unlike a player with a team option and whomever received him would have the option of using him like an expiring contract.

Merlin is a dumbass.

Will Merlin promise to eat his crystal ball if this doesn't happen? Because it won't.

Why? Nash is not a FA, Kidd is. If Phoenix gives up Nash, then in all likelihood he and Bayless will be passing each other changing teams.

Excellent questions. Call in to the show.

- Tone says next year's Rookie of the Year is Stephen Curry.
- Thinks Harden will go top 3 in the draft.
- Harden will be a better player than Curry though for their careers.

That's about it.

Ooh - RLEC jr!

renouncing Freeland's rights?!

That fucking blows...

It could be because he is close to signing a contract in Europe. If we renounce his rights now, it adds to the FA money we have to spend this year, which is the last time we'll have cap room again in a long time.

Post number 666 baby!

Hail Lord Satan!

Most interesting things to me the last hour
- Koponen and Freeland could likely be renounced to free up more cap space.
- Martell and Nicolas are the guys at the SF position. Travis will be the odd man out.
- On a side, Toronto could trade Bosh to Miami for Beasley so they can get something and admit they'll probably lose Bosh to free agency.
- A PG will most likely be acquired through trade.
- Bayless in the PG of the future.
- No Hedo, no Ariza. The team seems set on the SF position and don't need an upgrade.

I think Harden has a good chance to be among the three best players out of this draft and I expect him to be better than Curry, but I don't expect him to go top three. I think Griffin and Rubio are the likeliest top two picks and Thabeet will be drafted too early due to lack of quality size in the draft.

How much can we really take from this? Has this show ever revealed things that were
(a) surprising at the time but
(b) turned out to be correct?
And on the other hand, how often have things claimed on this show turned out to be total conjecture, and in fact, wrong? I sincerely hope they're wrong about renouncing Freeland (and, to a lesser extent, Koponen) and also about Bayless being the PG of the future (surely a man who played PG in college and who called Bayless "Jarrett Jack on steroids" can see that Bayless isn't a PG). And the stuff about Steve Nash just sounds bogus. Phoenix wouldn't give him up, and if they did, it would cost a fair amount and it wouldn't be to a regional rival!

Funny how that is. Some teams have to know that Harden is most likely going to have a good solid career with the potential to be really good, but would rather draft Thabeet and know he could be another stiff.
I really like Harden's game and could see him as the guy who wins ROY but is passed up.

Yes it's true that the Spanish media are reporting that Unicaja and Gran Canaria are fighting over him. So what? If Portland want him, I guarantee he'd come here. It's not like Spain is his home or that he's some huge star (like Rubio -who, guess what? Is also coming over!) And why wouldn't we want him? We need a backup PF, he's looked great this year, and what's the risk?

I admit, I thought he was a scrub. Now I've changed my mind, why would the Blazers piss me off like that?

Re: Thabeet: "you can't teach height". And "the next Dikembe Mutombo" is probably worth more to more teams than "the next Brandon Roy", however much we love Roy.

- Bayless in the PG of the future.

So you are saying Bayless is gay...AND boning the PG of the future! So does that mean he and Oden weren't the only ones developing chemistry in Ohio? Looks like Rudy isn't the only "gay" on the Memphis squad! Mike Conley Jr. here we come!

FOR GOD'S SAKE WE DON"T NEED A PURE PG!!!! And besides what IS a PG in the modern NBA? Are you telling me Aaron Brooks, Devin Harris and Tony Parker AREN'T PG'S?!?!?!

I'd say his ceiling is "the next Theo Ratliff."

Thanks for the recaps guys.

Awesome. Pure awesome.

Interesting info. I didn't know they actually had a spot on our cap.

If the cap is set at $57M, and we only renounce Frye, we should have $5.5M in cap space. If we renounce Frye and one of our overseas catches, we'll have about $6.3M. If we renounce all three of them, we'll have about $7.2M.

Those are the easy ways to free up cap space. We could also trade Sergio, for instance, to NY for their traded-player exception. This would free up another $1.6M to give us $8.8M.

These all seem likely now given that Frye couldn't beat out Outlaw as the first 4 off the bench, Freeland may be able to make at least 300% more in the next few years staying in Europe, Koponen didn't progress as fast as we hoped, Sergio doesn't mesh well with Nate, and each don't have enough trade value worth eating into our cap space.

We could also renounce our rights to our first round draft pick, but that, IMO, is not cool. There will be a player there, with good promise, and at an extremely good value. No fucking way Pritch gives that up unless we absolutely need to free up $.9M in cap space (which would give us about $9.7M).

Perhaps. He'll probably block as many shots as Theo, and score as much (or as little) as Theo. I do think he'll be a much better rebounder. Theo, in spite against playing against weak competition in college never averaged more than 7.8 RPG in his 4 seasons at Wyoming. Thabeet, playing in a much tougher conference averaged 10.8 RPG this season. And, he measured out at 7' 1.25" without shoes compared to 6' 8.75" for Theo.

Defense and rebounding wins championships. If a team doesn't need their center to be a dominant scorer, Thabeet could be a very valuable piece. Maybe not quite Dikembe Mutombo, but probably better than Theo Ratliff. In this weak draft, teams could do a lot worse than that.

Thabeet is anything but a dominant rebounder (despite the numbers he put up this year) I remember watching them play Pitt this year and he got pushed around by Blair like he wasn't even there, I don't see him being much more than a shot blocking specialist in the NBA -- probably a decent one, but nobody you're going to call more than a role player.

My point was, he was a much better rebounder in college than Theo.

He was 11th in the NCAA in REB/G, and 10th in REB/40 and pace adjusted REB/40. Not an elite rebounder, but a pretty good one.

Theo was a horrible rebounder for a center in both college and the NBA.

Thabeet's biggest problem is consistency. He's still very raw and tended to put up some great games and some very bad ones. The Pitt game you mentioned was one of the very bad ones, but the game before that, against Seton Hall, he went for 25 pts, 20 rebs and 9 blks. He also played better the second game against Pitt with 14 pts, 13 rebs and 5 blks.

at his height/reach with some coordination, dude will get his share of boards... which is something Ratliff never did.

Was Dikembe ever somebody you'd call more then a role player? Rebounding and contesting shots in the paint is a pretty important role in winning hoops.

Nobody posted this from Courtside??

"Merlin" (by the way, I think it is absolutely ridiculous when Rice wears these stupid costumes) said that the Blazers are trying to get Steve Nash. What would you guys think of that? I would love it. Our team, as it is, with Steve Nash added to the lineup? Please and thank you.

Nash, Roy, Batum, LMA, Oden - Not bad!

Blake\Bayless, Rudy, Webster, Rookie\Vet, Joel - Pretty solid bench.

Our bench would start on a lot of teams in the NBA.

Re: Nobody posted this from Courtside??

So according to your depth chrat we are going to get Nash for Outlaw and Sergio?

Good luck with that.

No, I just don't care about Sergio enough to put him on any depth chart... and "Merlin" said we are going after Nash as a FA. That is if PHX doesn't pick up the team option. Which is possible.

And I just forgot about Outlaw. It's 630am and I haven't woke up yet.

Re: Nobody posted this from Courtside??

If we could get Nash on the cheap, maybe in a deal involving Outla, Blake and picks, then hell yeah. Would be great to have a Nash/Bayless PG combo. Bayless could learn a lot from Nash. Just gonna cost WAY more than we would want to give though.

Re: Nobody posted this from Courtside??

For the record, he didn't say we were making any effort what so ever to get Nash, only that he liked him better than Kidd and that Portland should go after him.

Re: Nobody posted this from Courtside??

Fucking yuck, Steve Nash? Come on. lol. that guy is done..... Why would we want to get worse on defense?
