KP on Canzano

Well, it's just speculation, but I agree that Sessions isn't exactly a "Man, seriously, if you only knew who I was talking about." kind of guy... because people either would recognize him (and therefore kind of expect it) or they would not (and they would not be excited by him).

Who might it be? Who knows? The quote makes it seem that KP is excited, though, and I doubt Sessions as a free agent is the kind of guy that would get him that excited... even if it would make the team significantly better.

Ed O.

I'm thinking along the lines of that it is a guy that will be a salary dump where we'll get him on the cheap when we'll be able to take back money salary in a trade. Or maybe it's a younger player, but we'll have to take a bad contract back to get him. Really, it could be anybody from any of the teams in financial trouble.

I would be very excited at the prospect of bringing in Ramon Sessions, but that's just me. :ghoti:

The average fan won't care, and Sessions actually led Milwaukee to a worse record than Luke Ridnour did as a starter in a weak Eastern conference.

Hmmm...

God, some of you take these little statements and hit the ground running with them... I don't even look into these little tidbits until come time to sign free agents.

It's the off-season. It's either take these little statements and hit the ground running with them or get some sun.

I think we've all made our choice.

The lightsssses they burnsssses the skinsssss.

Fuck the sun! I'm going to post on Blazer message boards!

The average fan is irrelevant if it'll make the team better. Check out the drafting of Brandon Roy over Adam Morrison for further proof in case you forgot.

Did you check to see how many of those games Ridnour had with Redd and Bogut vs the times Sessions started? If not, you should maybe take a look back before making any conclusions off one piece of data.

Indeed, I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Here's an article on the Buck's situation

Is it possible that KP held on to LaFrentz when he had a Richard Jefferson offer, knowing that LaFrentz was Milwaukee's only hope of keeping both Sessions and Villanueva, therefore also knowing he could pawn off Sessions later? Is he that good? No way, right?

Absolutely. What's better for the Blazers? A Ramon Sessions or Andre Miller, or Richard Jefferson? I'll take Miller or Sessions over Jefferson if you ask me. I think the net gain in the summer will be better than the gain had by trading Raef off for RJ.

Remember who KP was talking, to, though: Canzano.

I would be surprised if Canzano knows who Sessions is, let alone that he's an RFA and a very good potential pickup for the Blazers. I don't think that KP would make that statement to Canzano over Sessions.

Why not? He clearly had no intention of actually TELLING Canzano, so what does it really matter how familiar Canzano would be with the player. What matters is Pritchard's own excitement level. Which could quite easily be high over Sessions.

Pritchard did say that not everyone would agree the player would be a great pick-up.

Really? You're not giving Canzano any credit at all, although I do agree with your point about the "wow" factor of any tease.

I agree that Canzano probably isn't aware of Sessions, but I do think we are over-analyzing exactly the quote that was put out. I think KP is merely excited about the prospect of whoever, and that the rest is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I actually took the "he's an NBA player" quote to mean that the guy KP was excited about wasn't in the NBA but thinks he's going to be a very good player in the league. Who knows? One thing is certain though, and that is KP is excited about this player and it sounds like KP's perspective is that this player is flying under the radar a bit according to his quote.

Clearly KP is talking about J Jack.

Canzano wouldn't believe it.

KP may very well believe J Jack is great, though a large number of people don't.

This way would could have up to 4 mediocre to piss poor point guards in the rotation. I mean, what's not to like?

Rasheed Wallace fits better.

"Man, seriously, if you only knew who I was talking about."

Maybe he was using "you" in the general sense, but I prefer to take it using plain language, and he seemed to that CANZANO would be excited.

I know there's an infatuation with Sessions on this board. I've continually tried to convince myself that he's that guy to be paired with Brandon as our starting PG, but still am not totally sure about the guy. Sure, he puts up some great numbers on a really bad team that didn't sniff the playoff picture in a bad conference.

I'd be interested to see what KP and the Blazer staff think of the guy. I remember Wheels had "The Scout" on his show a few weeks back and they talked about Sessions, and the NBA scout said he wasn't anything that special, or as special as some here thinks he is. Who knows.. time will tell. I can't wait til the free agency period begins.

You're right, he did it on a bad team, but I think it may be just as impressive that he did it on a bad team than a good team. It's not like he's a volume shooter that chucks it the way Damon Stoudamire did in Toronto. He's a true point guard that doesn't shoot all that much but creates massive amounts of offensive opportunities for his teammates who are inferior to the competition. The guy had plenty of double digit assist games with who on his team really that can score? Richard Jefferson and Charlie V? No Bogut and no Redd. Ramon is a true point guard that I think could alleviate the pressures on Brandon Roy who is often forced to make all the plays on the team. Sessions can come in and make many plays for the team without having Roy run the show every minute of every game.

I've been pretty high on Sessions, but I can see why people might not be enthralled with him, his outside shot is not there and from the fifteen or so games I watched the Bucks play on league pass his defense was kind of spotty (he has the tools but the consistency wasn't always there).

As long as this team adds another consistent scorer that can fit in with the rest of the roster, I don't care if it's Hedo Turkoglu, Tashaun Prince, Caron Butler, Jason Terry, Kirk Hinrich, or whomever, they just need some more playmakers or a third option that isn't Travis Outlaw.

I agree that right now his 3 ball isn't there but neither is Bayless's...I think both will be able to get there 3 ball to mid 30's by next season...Both have shown the ability in past levels...It will take repetition which I know Bayless will do...I don't know Sessions work ethic but everything I look at I like in Sessions...he even rebounds fairly well for a pg!

Yes, but we know he wasn't going to tell Canzano. So, to me, it just seems like a way to project his own excitement.

Also, I think you're being a bit extreme if you really don't believe Canzano would know who Sessions is. I don't consider Canzano remarkably informed or bright, but Sessions is hardly obscure. He may not be someone the casual fan is very aware of, but even a mediocre journalist who covers basketball is likely to know him and even that Sessions is one of the more attractive free agents. His name has been thrown about in nationally reported trade rumours and such.

So you think that it would be anything approaching news or exciting to partially reveal that Portland is, with their much-discussed and heavily anticipated salary cap space, talking to Ramon Sessions?

Really?

Sorry. I just don't see that as very likely.

A 22 year old point guard who's posted an above average PER in each of his two seasons in the NBA and had some monster games (including his assist totals, despite playing with a pretty poor scoring cast) once finally elevated to starter? Absolutely.

You aren't acknowledging that Pritchard (according to a previous post) specifically said that this addition may not seem great to everyone. That seems very appropriate to Sessions. A potential impact player, but not someone everyone would see as such.

Sounds a lot like, (gulp), K*be. :shitstorm:

I'm not sold on Sessions yet. The kids got definite talent, and he's gonna get better. However, I would feel uncomfortable giving up on Bayless that quick for a not entirely proven young PG.

Who says your giving up on anybody? Maybe you go into next season with both of those guys fighting it out for who get's to play. It won't matter who is here, I can guarantee Bayless is heading into next year with no other ideas in his head but starting. He is a competitive player, and he will do what is needed to work on his game and come in to fight for that playing time next year

But he's a free agent. The Blazers have cap space.

That's like the Chris Wallace dropping hints about drafting Rubio... it's just not something that's unexpected or out of the ordinary, even given RR's reported reluctance to go to Memphis.

Yeah... sorry. Still don't see it. I don't think that many would consider Sessions a "great" player, nor even a "great" acquisition. Some people might consider him to be less than a good one of each (and I'd disagree with them) but I don't think that "great" really applies too much.

The quote seems to indicate to me that he's talking about something less expected and much bigger... which is what he SHOULD be pursuing, even if it never bears fruit.
