Pritchard basically implying that no trades were made because all serious RLEC suitors wanted one or more of our guys who are still on their rookie contracts.

Oh no here comes the "test" and the "A, B, C and D options" analogy again.

So what you are saying is that being on pace for 50 wins is no fluke?

No, but the brand of basketball we've been playing over the past month is not going to get us to 50 mins. The game is different after the all-star break, and teams are going to start playing better. Right now, it seems like we're playing worse, just like we did last season after the break.

KP talking about it being a balancing act between falling in love with his own players and trusting his "process" and "system" of evaluating other team's players.

Why are the numbers crap? Humans are incredibly bad about judging efficiency with just their eyes. I see a team that is extremely talented and their offense varies, but the average seems good. Which the numbers verify. I'd love to remove some of the variance (and stabilize at a high level), but I don't see any reason why that variance hurts the team over a long stretch like the regular season.

In the playoffs, that variance could either help them or hurt them. Depending on whether they are hot or cold from the perimeter.

Tell me what you see, don't give me the numbers crap.

Interesting... KP said some would probably be amazed that one guy would hold up a deal, and people would probably ask, "that guy?" and KP would say, "Yep, he would."

Nicolas Batum?

KP is saying he thinks the market will be more conducive to a better deal for the Blazers later vs. today.

Too easy. Must be Sergio.

I figured it out! Maris is KP

Please re-read, because I did. I simply said that the numbers verify my observation.

If what you are requesting is "Please make an irrational judgment based on seeing Portland play poorly recently," sorry, I can't oblige.

I think the real issue a lot of people have is that the team has "seemed" more uneven in the last month or so (coinciding with Blake's absence) and the win-loss column hasn't lined up exactly the way we hoped it would ... or even when the wins have been coming, they've been squeakers against some fairly supbar teams.

I have no issue with the offense really; yeah it can be a little too iso heavy, and predictable, but for a young team I'm fine with a simple, high percentage approach that emphasizes ball-control and minimizing mistakes.

Anyway, I completely agree that the defense has been pretty galling, and consistently awful most of the season with little obvious signs of improvement ... leaving us good enough to beat most bad teams, split with mediocre to good teams and usually get beat down by the elite teams ... so I'd say they're right about where you'd expect them to be given their mostly finesse oriented personnel and extreme youth.

Statistics provide a level of objectivity. The reason for statistics is because humans can have biases when watching something. Or there might be too much going on, and one can't catch everything. That's why one should use both statistics and scouting.

KP talking about how excited he is to add another first round pick this year. "I think we'll get one."

So, everyone who likes more "youth" and "potential," draft day will be for you.

Bake it!

If the deal was Gerald Wallace and Nazr Mohammed for RLEC and Batum, and we didn't do it... :sigh:

Cool. KP says Oden won't need surgery on his knee.

KP: "Cap space is more important than expiring contracts because you can take people in without having to give equal salaries out. Couldn't imagine what Memphis' offers were receiving because they're under the cap."

You think Seattle wouldn't have liked to have Scottie Pippen back, instead of Polynice? Maybe that's what KP thinks about Batum.

Blurgh! :sigh:

Yeah, I'm not feeling it ... unless he thinks he's going to have more leverage to get a guy like Wallace over the summer, say by throwing a newly minted draft pick acquired through our trade exception ... Overall, I'm pretty luke-warm to KP's lack of "chutzpah" and his reluctance to go "all in"

I very much agree w/ Minstrel in this thread. But while our record says we are the 4th best team in teh West, I think we are closer to 6th or 7th.

KP on Oden: "I don't think he needs surgery. At least that's what the doctors are saying. We'll reevaluate after the weekend, but I think he'll be fine."

Cool. KP says Oden won't need surgery on his knee.

You mean just waited on the knee, and lo and behold, it turned out okay? No invasive action was necessary? No pieces needed to be removed or replaced?

They baked his knee. And it worked. :devilwink:

I admit I'm an odd duck, but I love Draft Day. I like having extra picks.

Trying to be more rational about it: KP and his team are great at the draft b/c they are able to do a lot of homework, especially on the psychological/mental side. Can't really do that with established players, though the longer they go the more they'll be able to build up a dossier on everyone in the league.

Culture's a big deal for them. I can see them not trading for Sean Williams, even though I (like most) may say something to the effect of "who cares who our 14th man is and what he does or how he acts"? But for KP--if you're not sure on someone, and you're unable to put them through your own battery of interviews and tests, it may not be worth the risk of trading, say, Travis or Batum or Rudy (people who meld well w/our team's culture) for someone that you don't have a good handle on, even if they're a great player.

The only guys I would have attempted to trade for are Wallace and Butler. My guess is that in those deals we would have had to give up RLEC, Outlaw, and a Batum/Bayless. I would not have done that deal either.

Kevin wasn't going to give up a whole lot for a 2-3 year rental player essentially. He'd rather have Batum over that same time span, and then 10 years after that.

Smart man.
