KP says turned down Amare

Kerr and KP are contradicting each other - one or both is definitely distorting the truth. Why do you think
it was KP who was telling the truth?
i think the easy assumption is that neither were telling the truth.

But they can't both be lying in this situation.

John Paxson said in his press conference that they knew that Amare wasn't going to get traded 5-6 days before the deadline. That would be during allstar weekend when Phoenix made the coaching change.

Paxson's story fits with Kerr's story.

why not? kerr says they were just listening to offers, pritchard says they were close to a deal. reality very easily could be between those two.

Listening to offers is different than the Suns agreeing to an offer and the Blazers turning it down, like KP insinuated.

If the Blazers turned down a trade for Amare that didn't involve B-Roy or Greg Oden, this would have to go down as a massive blunder for Kevin Pritchard.

For example, you know Outlaw/Webster weren't going anywhere in the trade. Same with Blake and Pryzbrilla.

Realistically, the most Phoenix was asking, had to be something like LaMarcus Aldridge, Rudy Fernandez, Jerryd Bayless, and Raef Lafrentz for Amare Stoudemire, Jason Richardson, Louis Amudson, and Matt Barnes.

Yeah, that's a lot to give up talent wise, but you're still left with:

PG-Steve Blake/Sergio Rodriguez
SG-Brandon Roy/Jason Richardson
SF-Jason Richardson/Travis Outlaw/Nicolas Batum
PF-Amare Stoudemire/Michael Ruffin
C- Greg Oden/Joel Pryzbrilla

If you can pair Brandon Roy and Amare Stoudemire, while having a role playing point guard, some fill ins at small forward, and two defensive centers, I think you have to take that shot.

And I'd imagine Phoenix asked for a lot less than the package I posted.

Aren't you the guy who keeps going on about the Bulls blowing what they had... You know, when they signed Gordon to destroy that team.... And how Portland is the next Chicago?

Now you want Portland to ship off half of the team for one guy and a bunch of other shitty players basically blowing the whole thing up.

I mean JESUS CHRIST!

Phoenix are in 9th with him.... We are in 4th without him

If KP turned down getting Chris Paul for Shavlik Randolph, it could only be considered a complete and utter failure on his part. In conclusion, Pritchard is a liar and a blowhard and the worst GM ever.

You forgot to say he's just spinning.

your answer doesn't jibe with your quote. Rozza 5 doesn't say it was KP who was telling the truth, he/she points out we don't know what the truth is.

STOMP

Exactly!

I don't know what the truth is therefore I do not conclude someone is lying.

I also think it's silly to assume KP would OR SHOULD BE 100% forthright. He's supposed to keep the upper hand. He's supposed to keep secrets. He's supposed to get the best deal avail. He's supposed to snoop around and find out what people are willing to give up...

This is a giant poker game.

This whole idea that he's supposed to be completely transparent is just absurd to me. I couldn't care less if he gives me every bit of information.

ha, like any of us know what really happened. its a buyers market, and if the sellers (new jersey, phoenix, etc) want to play hardball, im sure kp is more than happy to let their assets devalue even more before this summer. we are in a way better spot than we were imo.

amare will be avaliable for free this summer. and all of our players will have more value. so your idea is not a good one.

The Blazers culture is the sum of the current players on the roster. Any changes would change that culture.
Wow. This discussion has gotten just plain weird. If you're right, then KP shouldn't have been discussing trades with anybody, since bringing in anybody new would "change the culture."

Does anyone still like Stoudemire? Haven't we seen enough poisonous comments from anyone who's tried to coach him? He's Zach Randolph but without the rebounding!

But who is actually good on offense. Zach Randolph has a career TS% of 52.0%. Amare Stoudemire has a career TS% of 60.4%

The difference between Stoudemire and Randolph is that Stoudemire is actually good at offense, while Randolph is not.

But you admit that ZBO has a rebounding advantage right?

I had wondered what KP was talking about when he said the prospective trades might have affected our culture, since I never heard of any problems with Butler, Wallace or Jefferson. So that makes me think they were most serious about a Stoudemire trade. And in this case, I think the "culture" he was talking about was not in terms of being a badass or lawbreaker, but in terms of a guy who is not coachable and is not "team first".

Here's a quote from the New York Post: "If you talk to coaches who have asked him to perform certain elementary duties on the court, including rotating on defense, some of them will tell you that he's 'totally uncoachable and totally high maintenance,' as one confided during All-Star Weekend."

Yes I am new here and have already sussed you out. All you do is moan about this team, the players, the GM, everything.
As I said, you're obviously new around here. I regularly celebrate Blazer wins by starting threads featuring pictures of the Blazers in action. After our recent win against the Knicks, I started a thread that saluted the NYTimes for calling Brandon Roy a "transcendent player." I also posted a thread celebrating the Blazers' 30-17 record that stated, "Go Blazers!" You're focusing on some critical comments I've made recently, but if you'd been around here very long you'd know that's only a narrow slice of my contribution to the board.

The only thin I can say about you right now is that you have a nice avatar. I'll just have to take your word on the rest.

Get out your shovels--the B.S. is piling up! The idea that the Blazers turned down Amare Stoudamire to protect their "culture" is ridiculous. Pritchard just couldn't get him for free, so he gave up. I'm really getting tired of Pritchard's lies. This guy has got to learn that he can tell the truth; it's not necessary to keep "spinning" all the way to the grave.

What was the lie? He said he was tempted by a deal for Amare Stoudamire but did not pull the trigger. Is he making that up? Was he not offered the deal? Why would he make that up, when the Suns could easily refute it? What were the Suns asking for? If they were offering Stoudamire, bad eye and all, for LaFrentz and Shavlik Randolph and a second round pick, KP should have taken it. If they were demanding Roy, Oden, Aldridge, Rudy Fernandez, or both Bayless and Batum, KP probably thought the price was too steep.

KP has made it clear in past years he is not too fond of mid-season trades. He still apparently is not.

Oden was a lucky bounce of ping poing balls, but the liar, spinner, ridiculous guy who "gave up" had the dealmaking skills to land the Blazers Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Sergio Rodriguez, James Jones, Rudy Fernandez, Jerryd Bayless, Nicolas Batum, and now a $3 million trade exception - not bad for a liar, right, Shooter (or does he still block my posts?)
