you made a giant leap into trading Dame. It's obvious that's not the leap I made

I made an assumption, not sure how giant it is. Ant/Nurk out and Porzingis/Wright/Bol Bol in doesn't appear to make the team better in the short term. Would you agree?

Interesting. Where do you see that team finishing in the West next year?

what I see is that one of the very few times I decided to mess around with a multi-team trade fantasy I apparently have to justify the details and what it all means. I take it all back

My bad. I just meant it as a simple question, about basketball, on a message board.

You certainly don't have to justify your thought process if don't want to. I'm not trying to make anyone uncomfortable!

Keep in mind other moves will still be made. #3 was not included.
Yes it was, it went to Washington.

Otherwise I would have agreed that moves could be made to get better in the near future, which I believe would be important if we're wanting to maximize Dame's timeline.

If you don't want to answer, that's cool.

it was just a wild fantasy trade combining mostly bullshit rumors that had about 10 players and 10 picks moving around on 4 teams. So far beyond the realm of realistic it wasn't worth debating details in my view. I didn't have anything except some morning caffeine invested in it.

as for Dame, I really don't think it will take much at all for him to say the draft/off-season was good enough, "I'm staying". If he wants the Blazers to make a trade, or trades, he absolutely has to know that at least one, if not both, of Ant/Nurk will be leaving. And he's almost certain to understand that his lack of synergy with CJ-->Ant has been a big reason roster upgrades have been stalled

I like Porzingis. But come on... He is on an expiring deal (or even worse, opting out). There is no way the #3 is involved in this even with a new deal. Maybe a three team deals with Toronto and Washington landing us KP + Siakam with #3, Nurk, Nas and Ant? (even in this scenario we are FAR from matching salaries). I really don't see a pathway to a KP for #3 in Portland.

Just the thought of KP for #3 and anything gives me a migraine. From the few people I've spoken to, the general consensus is.....NO WAY.

I actually like Porzingas…but no way for 3rd pick!

After the Beal trade we should go after KP with Nurk, future picks and a third team for salaries
Why ?? Portland is getting better picks with Nurkic then the Wizards are with Porzingus. Paying 13m more for a worse ping pong ball is a bad strategy.

I actually would mind KP on the Blazers (at a much smaller acquisition cost). Something like this:

Blazers get Porzingis (opt in), Wright (Into TPE), Gafford
Wizards get Nurkic, Simons, #43, Knox

Or you could drop Gafford/Nurk & add Keon Johnson.

I would even be cool with #43 being #23.

I thought we wanted vets, and not Nurk?
I honestly can't tell anymore. Draft madness has swept the area. They'll be awesome rookies next year too. If the Blazers can't build a super team, then don't even try. Just let it ride.

Porzingis would work well next to Zion.

Dame
Sharpe
Grant
Zion
Porzingis

Roll the dice
We would have to trade everyone currently under contract besides Dame and Shaedon to match 80% of the salaries of both Zion and Porzingis. If we get Zion there are better options at C that we could acquire that don't cost nearly as much.

I kind of think we all just watched the reason "Finishing in the West" might not be as important as everyone always makes it out to be.
The Playoffs are different. You have to make them to play. Yes #1 seed is important but not nearly as important as playing well during the playoffs.

I agree. I still think Christian Wood is a talented center who can rebound and score in many ways. Next to Zion and Grant , i could see his defense getting better. I doubt he makes more than 8 to 10 mil. max next year.

Then what, every other team should just concede it to the Nuggets from here out? That's why they play the game. Another team can get on a roll and win . The Blazers did it in '77. How many GM's would have picked that Blazers team to win it all before that season?

Doesn't that kind of prove that is a large exception to the rule? Going back 46 years for an example, means it doesn't happen very often. Of course you make moves to try to compete....if you can really compete. What it seems most people that have an issue with that is, is that we can trade a potential generational pick, youth, future picks....all to be maybe a 2nd round team?

Just seems like a waste, when you could keep all those assets and perhaps add other on top of it to do a real, proper rebuild and let it build.....like the Nuggets did.

Jokic was an outlier pick in the second round. Literally lightning in a bottle. The Blazers are more likely to be Sacramento, rebuilding for 16 years than catching that lightning. Especially Portland. Even if some of those picks pan out, what's the real chance they stay? 10%. We are a great basketball city. But that's not always what turns young millionaires on. Bright lights and big city are more of a lure to leave, than stay.
