And Swanigan was an All-American.

Swanigan shot 12% better from 3pt in college.

Kuzma was a tweener who didn't hustle and showed little perimeter or post game.

Dude, I ran a Matrix consisting of pretty much every mock draft on the internet. I know where his draft stock was, I pay more attention than you do. So don't try to tell me anything.

A lot of people were calling for Bell and those who actually pay attention to college basketball (which was easy for Kuzma since he was in the Pac-12) saw things he could do that translated much better than Biggie for sure. Love Biggie's work ethic but no explosion around the rim and not much ability to finish around guys his own size. He just didn't play against many of those in college.



D69 was calling for that months before the Draft....and people mocked him left and right.

I was referencing Kuzma. The ones bitching about not drafting Kuzma didn't say anything about him before the draft. It's hindsight bias to a tee.

I thought Swanigan was a bad pick for those reasons.

Bell? Yes. So many people wanted him and the Warriors basically bought him, which we could have done.

Kuzma? GTFO outta here with that shit.
 
Kuzma wasn't on my radar - If we didn't trade up, Bell was by far my top choice. It'd be interesting to see his "red-flagged" medical report that caused him to drop.

What were the Bulls thinking? They gift wrapped Bell to the Warriors.
 
I don't follow much college hoops, but I had seen and wanted Bell. He was exactly the kind of defensive player that we wanted. I wasn't really happy with the Swanigan pick, and watching him in SL, he sure seemed slow of foot.

Starting to wonder if the story of Caleb was the reason he was picked to save face, and Olshey's job *puts on tin foil hat* Because he hasn't shown much and we're starting to see that the upper brass doesnt care much about the team or its fans, starting with McGowan.
 
I like Zach. He looks like a player. However, he had the Oden-esque 6 fouls in 17 minutes last night...

I was never crazy about the Swanigan pick, but I understood the presumed reasoning behind it. He was a safe pick to take the pressure off Collins to pan out immediately.
 
Guys guys. It's early. MCW looked like a perennial All Star after 30 games. CJ looked like a bust for two years. Swanigan could become better than Kuzma in my opinion. Hasn't had the minutes to show what he can do yet. He was awesome in summer league.

This. Kuzma in college had about the same impact on games as Layman did for Maryland. They were guys who had skill and size, but played a team game. You never know if that guy has another level to their game or not. It appears that Olshey thought Jake did. That remains to be seen, although so far, his shot is just way too inconsistent. Kuzma on the other hand, had another level. And unless you have a cell phone capture of Olshey's draft we will never know his predraft thoughts on Kuzma. He could have been on a "do not draft" list, or he could have been 1b to Swanigan's 1a. We will never know. And that is why the draft is like gambling. The best talent evaluators will miss sometimes, and the most inept will hit a homerun.

All data regresses toward the mean. Look at the over all draft analysis and Olshey has done a damned good job.

Dude, why the fuck don't you realize this for other stuff at the start of the season? Everyone was screaming "small sample size" after you did shit like call the Magic legit and a playoff team.

Summer League doesn't mean shit. Summer League he was bigger or the same size as everyone so he could still get shots off around the rim. At the NBA rim, he's too small/unathletic. He gets blocked so much. Zach Randolph was always extremely overrated as a big that usually shot less than 50% from 2pt, and that's the pipedream scenario for Swanigan. I thought it was a horrible pick at the time, bought into him because I love his overall attitude and effort, but he's not going to be a good NBA player.
 
I was right on Mitchell and Tatum. I didn't want Mitchell until a couple weeks before the draft but the more I watched and studied him the more I believed that his athleticism, wingspan, strength, combined with so-so yet develop-able skills were going to make him a very good player. Liked Collins as well. Said Tatum was going to be the best player from this draft and I stand by this statement. If he played for a trash team, he'd be getting 20ppg on 45/45/80. Since he plays for BOS he's getting 14ppg on 50/50/80.

Seriously? Awesome in Summer League? Remember Qyntel Woods? Swanigan is a good story but he has very little explosion and lacks almost any perimeter quickness. Those two things aren't likely to get better anytime soon. It doesn't mean he can't learn to play like Zach Randolph but those players are very few and far between.
 
Z-Bo always had a knack for deceptively out-quicking players. That's not something he had to develop once in the league to find a niche. Swanigan's ceiling is a small fraction of Z-Bo's sustained level of play. He can, however, be a much better teammate than Z-Bo was the first half of his career, and that's pretty important for a bench player.

Dame has seen Swanigan play more than you have and he was impressed and said he will be good in NBA.
 
I saw Swanigan play great in home opener against New Orleans' big front line. He's for real. Stats:

5 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a monster block

In all fairness do yo really think dame would say anything else regardless of what he believes? Dame has been known to support his teammates regardless.
I would expect him to say hat about every player on his team throughout his career. He knows how important confidence can be to taking your game to the next level.

Dame was asked who he was impressed with. He said Swanigan. Didn't say anything about Collins in that interview.

You answered your own question. Dame tends to get it wrong when it comes to talent evaluation. He bet on the losing horse of the two there, as evidenced by who is in the regular rotation and who is in the G-league...which is made even worse by it supposedly being just the opposite based on who was ready to contribute at the start of the year.
