Dame also thought Meyers would be a good Draft choice and wanted 'Melo to come to Portland this summer. Not sure I'd put a lot of stock in him as a Player/GM.

Bell is different. I hate the fuckers that act like Kuzma was an obvious pick at 26. The dude did nothing in college and was a had the stock of a late 2nd rounder last March.

I think it's an unteachable skill.

Still, Zach was always inefficient and didn't defend well. Calebs best case scenario is a player that doesnt really help his team.

Caleb in summer league and pre season was the steal of the draft, now he has struggled in limited minutes and his best case is a player who doesnt help his team? Collins playing ok in limited minutes, and he's a big with no weanesses? Maybe give them both a little time.

Probably not reasonable to apply Bones' statements to the entire forum.

I disagree with the assessment of Swanigan. His and Randolph's games are quite different; he (as stated) doesn't have Randolph's skill/touch/footwork (butt-work) around the rim, and likely never will, but he's also already shown more shooting range than Randolph ever had, and is arguably already as good a passer as Randolph has ever been. If he can develop his J to be reliable, he can absolutely be a valuable PF, but given his inherent deficits in height, footspeed, and athleticism, I don't see him reaching quality-starter (ie, top 20 at his position) status, despite his clearly indomitable work ethic and drive.

Collins, however, has natural gifts that Swanigan simply doesn't have, so it's not unfair to say that he has a significantly higher ceiling. Yes, many of those same "advantages" are applicable to MyLe as well, but many are not, such as lateral quickness, defensive acumen, and overall BBIQ. It is not unreasonable to say that his ceiling is "a big with no weaknesses", because (unlike Swanigan and Meyers) he hasn't displayed any inherent traits that are likely to hinder him at the NBA level.

I never claimed Swanigan to be the steal of the draft. I bought the koolaid on Swanigan for a bit but his recent struggles reminded me why I didn't like him as a pick in the first place.

I've been saying this about Collins before he got minutes.

Randolph was so quick. That's the biggest difference, and I don't think Swanigan can really change that. ZBO was deceptively fast for his size, and he had a very quick first step. That's what got him by. His offensive skill was very raw, but his feel for the game around the basket was extremely good right off the bat. Plus he was an insanely good rebounder because of that quickness.

Swanigan is nothing like Randolph.

But he could be like Randolph now. Zach has lost some quickness and does more outside work now (besides his rebounding prowless).

But I think Caleb tops out as a slightly better Ike Diogu or Craig The Rhino Smith which is like 8th man type max but that is ok. Some draft picks will be out the of the league after 3 years. Caleb is going to have a role on a team for 10 years. Just not likely a starting role.

It's not like he's Collins and he's super raw.

There are some things that simply don't develop. Quickness and athletic ability are typically not something that a player develops once they get to the NBA. That's usually one of the things that are already there.
