In a league where Gordon Hayward is offered a max contract, not offering one to LMA would be a total slap in the face.

Yeah I haven't read that, just that he was extremely frustrated (link below). People love to read between the lines, and honestly I don't blame them. We've seen the same thing happen with a bunch of other stars, they ride out their contract then move on to bigger markets. It's not a shock that people assume the worse case scenario. I'll worry until he actually signs the contract.

Don't know about anyone else, but I was pretty frustrated too. I'd be much more worried if our best player WASN'T frustrated with poor team performance. I really hope we have a great 2014-2015 season and he stays.

That is the quote I remember. It's FAR from saying he won't re-sign here.

I don't have a problem with people trying to read between the lines. But in doing so, they're likely to make trade proposals that are fear-based and not fact-based. Some mods even went as far as "guaranteeing" he won't re-sign here.

Meanwhile those of us admitting that we don't have enough information, and claiming we shouldn't make a fear-based trade on that limited information, were chided by these mods as LMA apologists and having our heads buried in the sand, and acting "childish".

You're not making things up but you did get one of your major points wrong. LMA never said he wouldn't re-sign.

Actually he has handled things perfectly. He went to Olshey and talked with him about what he expects from the franchise. This is after a season where he played with JJ Hickson as center. He said he wanted to play with a real center and he didn't want to be here if the team was going to rebuild again. The Blazers got Lopez and didn't tear apart the roster. LMA delivered with a great regular season and a fantastic playoff appearance.

LMA has been very honest about what he wants, he has never been the type of person to just run his mouth and just tell people what they want to hear.

It really doesn't matter what other players in similar situations have done in the NBA, his words and more importantly his actions have backed up what he has said previously so there is no reason to doubt that he will re-sign with the team.
 
Look, the only way I'd believe aldridge said something is if there were "You Know's" splattered in the quotes. If not, I think ya'll are just paraphrasing!

I completely get that he's "worth it" compared to his peers, but that doesn't mean it's a good value either. The only cases where a max deal is a value is for the guys that are legit MVP candidates (Lebron, Durant, and the like) where those guys would probably make twice the max in an uncapped league.

I get what you're saying and I don't think you're wrong, but it seems to be just a cost of doing business in the NBA these days. It would be really interesting to see how the league would operate without a salary cap. As it is, guys who are marginal All Stars get pushed into max deals while the superstars can't go any higher, even though they're clearly worth much more than they're paid. Sports are weird in that billionaires are the owners and they don't always treat their franchises in a purely business manner. Winning is much more important to some of these guys than the bottom line is. They make their money elsewhere.

This sentence is logically confusing. If he is worth it, it is a good value, if he is not, it is not a good value.

You can not tell us that only Lebron, Durant and the like are worth the max because if there was no max-cap they would get twice as much - but Aldridge is not worth the max because he would not be getting twice as much without the cap. One suspects that if there was no hard cap on the max, Aldridge would not be offered twice the current max, but would still be offered a contract close to what the current max is - given the same parameters of league revenues and sharing.

At the end of the day, given the current rules and regulations Aldridge is both worth the offer and is a good value at it. He might not be an exceptional value at it as someone like Lebron and Durant who are under-paid given their performance (and revenue generating abilities) - but there is no chance he does not get the max from 90% of the league if he were an unrestricted agent right now and all these teams had the cap space for him.
 
FiveThirtyEight's analysis of earnings for performance placed Aldridge's true value last year at 25.4 million. Lebron was worth 44 million, as I recall.

Sheesh. This thread is crazy. Only on a goofy board like this can good news that our team's All Star PF plans on re-signing be argued about for 6 pages of posts about whether this is a good thing or not.

Signing is just paperwork but hearing him say he wanted to retire a Blazer and be the best Blazer ever, well that's all I needed to hear.
