Trade Larry Nance Jr traded to Portland

I like that our training camp will be ultra competitive or rotation spots...good problem to have..

Sounds like CJ and Nance are friends.

"Nance joined the Cavs in the 2017-18 season, coming over in a trade from the Lakers. A skilled all-around player, the 28-year-old Nance will be a nice complementary piece for the Blazers. He’ll also get a chance to play with fellow northeast Ohioan and friend CJ McCollum."

They are both Ohio born. Along with LBJ and the Curry boys.

How is Lauri M a bad player? Not saying the $ was smart, but he's a decent pro, ain't he?

I think he’s vary solid! He’s not championship cornerstone good but coming in who thought Dirk would be championship cornerstone good?

So Chicago has used 3 FRP's to acquire Vucevic and Derozan, and we have used 3 to acquire Nance and Covington.

Seems legit.
If you go by historical trade value, one pick the Bulls gave (8) is worth more than the two we traded for Covington (16,23)

We have a better roster than Denver. One more made play in Game 5 and we're up 3-2 and would've likely won the series. That was with Stotts as coach and with a horrific defensive frontcourt pairing off the bench in Melo+Kanter off the bench. Remember when those two would come in and Denver would immediately go on a run? The roster is better. We win that series with Billups as coach. There is a ton of room for growth defenisvely from a team that tied for 5th last year.

Also, we tied with Dallas last year. If anything, they might've gotten worse and downgraded their coach. I don't know how they end up a tier above us.
I know what Billups is saying what he want to see. But he still has to get the guys to buy into that plan. I hope he successful but still haven't coach a game yet. Plus does he hold Dame and CJ accountable on defense.

I don't think Dame takes much buying in. He's shown flashes of playing really good defense, I think one of the biggest issue with him has always been the load that he has to carry on offense. Hopefully with a new offense, and potential playmaking out of the 4 and 5 positions, we'll be able to alleviate some of that burden?
I'm also curious what a new defensive scheme can also do to help him and CJ out. Some with Dame, but most with CJ, the biggest issues I've always seen while watching him is his attention waning on the defensive end, and letting guys get past him while he's ball watching either for a backdoor cut, an open look, or stealing rebounds because he watches the shot and doesn't find his man.
Not that scheme will solve all the team problems, but we've seen good defensive teams year in and year out that have shit defenders on the floor, but they have a scheme to make sure those guys are hidden better than maybe what we've been doing in the past.

Markkanen will be a good player, & good fit, IMO in Cleveland. They have a young team, with talent. Probably be contending for a playoff spot in a couple years.

Well he is still required to add one more player to meet the 14 requirement, so that's still there, but trade wise, he's done until the deadline. We don't really have moveable contracts at the moment, nor do we have control of draft picks in the coming year. And our young guys are probably of more value to us than other teams right now.

I'm gonna hold judgement until the deadline. I would like to turn Powell into something, ideally.

Powell is perfect next to Dame. CJ is the one who needs to/must be traded.

Love the trade. Solid addition, improves depth and flexibility.

I dont like Neil, don't want to be on the side of defending him, but I feel like he can't win unless he moves cj for most here.
If he moves a non-lotto 1st for a solid piece, people will bitch about not having draft picks. If he doesn't make that move, he's doing nothing at all. I saw some on twitter saying how this move will make Dame made even. Like Dame care's about our 22 pick?!

This trade by itself is solid, making trading CJ more challenging by protecting the first is my issue.

(In Bernie voice) “Let me be clear. I am once again asking Neil to get his fucking head out of his ass and trade CJ. It is high time we give up on this ridiculous 3 guard lineup as a legitimate starting five in this SF dominated NBA.”

Seems like a really chill dude who should fit in seamlessly with our chemistry. i never realized how connected he was to CLE.

This trade was absolutely a collaboration. I had expressed my desire to win now to Koby and the front office if we could find a deal that helped everyone, and they certainly did that. Going to Portland is something that I am extremely excited about. This is a team that has seen the biggest stages and is hungry for more, and I’m thrilled that they believe I can help them climb higher. This opportunity is one that I’m very ready to take advantage of and I have the Cavs to thank for preparing me for it.

I'm ok with moving CJ. But it's been beaten to death here, and I don't see too many fits available that make sense for both teams.
There had been the rumor posted here recently, though, that Neil had offered anyone but Dame and Roco to Philly for Simmons, so if we choose to believe every rumor where he is made untouchable, we should also then believe that he was offered, just not accepted. It takes 2 to make a deal work.
And I'm not inclined to move CJ as a $1 for 2 50 cent pieces. I don't think that moves us closer to contention.

Well perhaps we will trade Roco and CJ for Simmons. I would do that now with Nance and Nas able to play 3/4.

Yep I like Nance and I will LOVE him if we turn around and trade CJ and Covington for Simmons. My reason for reacting negatively was pick protections possibly preventing a CJ trade as Game five turned to Mithril, my already cemented opinion, that CJ next to Dame is killing this team.

Simmons would be nice fit next to Nance! If we can’t get Simmons I worry about trading CJ I don’t see a lot of options for guys who can create their own shot. Regardless looking forward to this year

think top 4 is a stretch unless Ant/Nas pop because I don't know who we would replace. I like the Billups hiring as well and thought anyone was an upgrade over Terry, but he's going to have growing pains.

I still have it like this:

Tier 1: UTA, LAL, PHX

Tier 2: GSW (the obvious wildcard here)

Tier 3: POR/DEN/DAL/LAC

Tier 4: NOP/MEM/SAC

Tier 5: who cares...
I don’t think any of your Tier 1 teams are infallible. Lakers got worse. Jazz showed weakness in playoffs. Chris Paul is old. I’m not saying we’ll be the #1 seed. But top 4 is absolutely possible.

They signed-and-trade for Derozan. That's different. Chicago also gave up the 8th overall pick in this years draft which is likely worth 3 or 4 of our late 1sts. Nance is better for this team than Derozan would've been. I don't get what your point is here.

Well perhaps we will trade Roco and CJ for Simmons.
While we're dreaming, let's dream BIG:

It's a dream, so it doesn't have to be plausible, but if I was trying to find a rationale for the Clippers: Paul George doesn't want to waste a year waiting for Kawhi to get healthy so demands out... and also hates Doc Rivers.

As much as I am not on the NeO hate train as some I will admit NeO seems to have a weakness for trying to revive careers of busts see Mo Harkless , Giles and I am sure I am missing a couple others but you get the point. As much as the reward for doing so can be high sometimes you can miss out on something better or more stable and very possible the Blazers have cause of this weakness but again I could be wrong.
