Trade Larry Nance Jr traded to Portland

He could have woken up today and felt better as well....just needing to have it calm down..

So there's that. It says right knee inflammation and when I looked on ESPN's injury report for the team it just lists him as day-to-day. That all seems like good news to me but we still haven't heard anything official so both of these pieces of journalism might just be the result of a lack of information.

Might need the swelling to come down before doing more imaging

that’s an official press release from the team. That means the injury diagnosis is coming from them. If it was something more serious I think they would’ve discovered/announced by now.

Yes, hopefully this is good, but I do think it is very strange there hasn't been more clear communication from the team about his status. That was a scary moment.

I think you're right. I also hope you're right. I wish they would have given us a separate press release regarding Nance specifically since his is a new injury and he's not listed as questionable or doubtful but out. The one thing that worries me is that it's listed as inflammation which as @illmatic99 pointed out can have to go down before imaging will give you the whole picture. It does seem like good news though and I'm hopeful that it is.

Sounds like no significant damage to his knee. Hopefully he won’t be out long.

Hopefully Watford sees an increase in minutes until Nance returns. Like watching him defend.

It would have just been from the wife "Voodoo Dolling" him, so he can help her with the new baby

Once that swelling goes down in a week, they will be able to really see what's going on, but this is good news.

Sorry wanted to bring this topic up again. Have I said what a horrible trade this was not because Nance was bad but because of the future first round pick that goes all the way out to 2028. The problem is we can swap picks with bucks in 2028 presuming we have our 1st round pick. But it’s possible Chicago could own the pick if our pick is 15 or later. How horrible would it be to be if Bucks pick is in lottery pick but we aren’t able to swap because of Nance trade?

realistically we probably lose it next year or 2027 but if for some reason we don’t then Chicago will have a huge leverage over us.

What I hated was using the pick on Kris Murray a couple years ago.

I have no idea if we could have given them that pick or not to satisfy the trade for the Bulls perspective, but if we could have, even if we had to sweeten it a little bit for them, is a massive failure.

one would think the Blazers could at least make the play-in over the next 3 seasons. But obviously. making the play-in is no guarantee of making the playoffs

it's possible that Milwaukee could have the #1 pick in 2028 and Portland loses the swap because they have to convey their 1st to Chicago. It's likely a very remote possibility, but it exists

Blazers will probably be a lot different by the 2027-28 season. Simons-Ayton-Timelord-Thybulle-Scoot-Sharpe-Camara will all be on new contracts; hopefully some on other teams. Grant & Avdija will be an expiring contracts heading into that draft. Lots of changes making it difficult to project situations

but yeah, the stain of Olshey's incompetence still hangs over the future of the Blazers

Ahhh fucking Joe Cronin... The gift that keeps on taking...

Nance Jr. Should still be on the team. We gave him away for a bowl of steam.

Awkward I’ll take Deni and Toumani over a useless Nance who is healthy about as often as timelord

Part of the reason I was fine with trying to make the playoffs this year when we had lost the chance to finish in the top7 of the lottery. If we do at least this Chicago pick debt will be over.

Yeah it'll be crazy if we get to 2028 season, the Bucks look bad, and we still owe Chicago our pick. Will basically have the tanking incentive of losing two lottery picks if we make the playoffs.

I still think if Giannis does get traded it's EXTREMELY likely we're involved in the trade and return all three of these picks to the Bucks. How the Blazers do next season could determine if the Blazers are a possible Giannis dark horse destination (probably unlikely) or most likely just the third team in the trade.

Larry Nance? You mean 8.5 ppg in 24 games this year??

Guy isn't worth a bowl of steam.

Camara was a steal of a throw in, Deni was the main piece ultimately acquired from the Dame haul. Yeah clearly they are much more valuable than Nance.

However I'd rather have Nance (or basically nothing) than a bunch of the useless overpaid vets we've collected in Grant, Ayton, Thybulle, or stupid old rookie picks in Murray.

A bowl of steam is worth way more than Grant, Ayton, Thybulle. Sure wish we could've kept Nance over those wastes of space.

Yeah it is crazy if you step back to think were still over 3 years away from potentially paying the cost of acquiring Nance - who has since spent seasons in New Orleans and this entire season in Atlanta.

That's not why he's valuable and you know it. He's a glue guy that would instantly be our 1st or 2nd best defending big. Great passer. Can hit a wide open 3. Can play backup C. Athletic AF.

And again, we just gave him away. You can't make that a good Cronin move no matter how hard you try.

Sometimes it's like fans don't actually watch games or look at stats.

There's a reason why Nance is in his 5th team.

Nance was a throw in. He didn't even need to be included in the deal. Total Cronin brain fart.

There are many ways to affect the game besides scoring right? And you're completely missing the point. Cronin gave him away when he didn't need to be included in the deal.
He could still be on the team WITH the players we traded him for. And you know full well that deal for CJ was a CRAP deal. We missed out on a draft pick and gave a player away because of that.

That's where you're off. Nance had to be included to make the incoming-outgoing differential large enough to create a Jerami-Grant-sized trade exception. Now, if you want to complain about the fact that Cronin pursued and acquired Grant in the first place, that's fine, but it's wholly inaccurate to claim that Nance was an unnecessary throw-in. He was included in that deal for a very specific reason.

Yup - that is my gripe. Each error was somehow worse that the prior one

1. Stupid to dump Nance/CJ just to create a Grant trade exception - along with the horrific Clippers trade. Eventually the only semi useful asset we got in the deal in Hart was dumped for the horrific 27 year old rookie Murray pick.
2. Even more stupid to trade for Grant a few months later - I'd have much rather had Jalen Duren or just kept the pick
3. Even even more stupid to give Grant that dumb contract
4. Even even even more stupid not to trade Grant last summer when we somehow lucked out that he had a career year and had legit value - at the least of a player on a much shorter contract

5. I'm scared to think what will be next - maybe Grant is still starting in front of Deni/Camara in October.
6 Then in 2026?
7 Then in 2027?
8 Finally in 2028?

Kind of amazing that the Grant dumb decisions will continue to haunt us potentially just as long as the stupid debt we have to acquire Nance.

Deni just dropped a 30 piece triple double. Can we finally send this thread to the garbage can where nance jrs career story will end up?
