So at what point will we have a population that makes it extremely stupid for them to not have an NFL or MLB team here?
When we have a population that doesn't care if the MC goes down, MLB on the waterfront would be gorgeous and a huge boom to the summer economy. So at what point will we have a population that makes it extremely stupid for them to not have an NFL or MLB team here?
Portland will never okay any public funding for a major arena. They didn't in the 70's when it was equitable and they won't now. They are ideologically against the very concept. It's like the Memorial Coliseum, you think they really want to keep that place? That would actually cost money for renovation. What was the last idea? Turn it into a new venue for sports? Ha. Apathy and poor planning will keep Memorial Coliseum up for 30 another years at least. Then it probably falls down, or catches on fire and burn down like that baseball stadium in Eugene last summer.

I'm sure the city would be all over it. They would likely be able to fund most of the project with the thought of taxing thenticket sales to pay back the stadium in perpetuityPortland will never okay any public funding for a major arena. If their was a grass roots drive to keep Memorial Coliseum that started I could maybe see the City getting behind that. That local building conservation would be good with the local press and community groups. But any MLB or NFL to Portland would have had to happen in the 90's I think. The MLB to PDX movement had a lot more dialog after the Rose Garden was built than people realize. The iron was hot but sadly nothing ever came from it. Now there is just nothing.I'm sure the city would be all over it. Any time there is a possible tax to bring in more revenue the city, state, feds would be behind it. You really want the Raiders up here don't you.... [emoji13] Hell. I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets every other year.Any time there is a possible tax to bring in more revenue the city, state, feds would be behind it. They want people's money.
Bringing in a nfl team would allow them to tax ticket sales and create another revenue source to fund roads, schools etc.
I'm sorry even if the Raiders moved up here I couldn't switch my loyalties from the Jets. But nothing against the Silver and Blacks. And I'm sure there are a lot of Hawks fans that are the same way. You'd get the younger kids who would latch on to the team and then the area fans who bought tickets for the opposing team. So, basically older butter f-ck like me. Still would be great to have a team though.

How can you do that? All those years of ups and downs, all those memories..... I can't throw away the "The Fake Spike" Game or "The Miracle at The Meadowlands?" Okay. So I became a Jets fan because I wanted a team as FAR AWAY from Seattle as possible (yes, I hate their sports teams that much) But at some point your old experiences help dictate the new ones.Life long Cowboys fan but if any team moved to Portland I would become a hardcore fan.

That's cool, default Raider fan, except on certain weekends. Wish I could do that.I'll still have all the memories and will continue to cheer for them when they're playing Portland.
It would just be great having a local team to get behind.
After the San Andreas fault causes LA and San Fran to fall into the ocean.
I guess from the Niner's standpoint, it's a good thing they moved to Santa Clara - they stand a much better chance of not falling into the ocean now than they did if they were still in San Francisco.
Not the team, the fan base.
Depends on where your from and the culture of the team there. When the Colts played Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium they refused to even call them the Colts on the public address system. When that Browns fan urinated on Art Model's grave, he wasn't pissing sympathy. Fans identify with their teams or they don't. Buy they don't ever forget.Fan bases are fickle and can come from anywhere, even thin air. Just ask Seahawks fans.
Yeah, thinking about moving home. I wandered through a homeless camp next to my shop looking for a tool stolen out of a car this weekend.enjoy the extra 1% tax on hotel rooms in addition to the parking fee and resort fees.
fuck vegas.
