OT LaVar is costing his son MILLIONS of dollars

I believe the team that drafts Ball will have the same results the Seahawks had when they drafted the over-hyped Brian Bosworth. The NBA players are going to run right over Ball, and put him on his butt.

I was almost hoping for him to be a bust at first. The more i thought about it, it just seems vindictive to hope for this young dude to fail just because his dad is an arrogant prick. I havent really seen this arrogance from any of the kids, just the dad. Maybe the kids are pricks too, i dont know. But i do know that most of the negativity the kids get is a direct result of their fathers actions.

This guy is not the first sports dad to be like this. Just arriving when access to players and their personal lives is at an all time high. Social media is opening doors/windows to a world nobody has seen before. Obviously one of the worst we've been introduced to for sure, but I'm quite sure star players for years have had over involved parents that clubs have had to deal with. The Lakers will be just fine dealing with this prick. He won't be on the team plane, practices etc. It will work itself out. He definitely has painted a target on his son's back for sure.....wish this kid the best.

Lonzo, in every instance I've seen him, seems like the exact opposite of his father (handler). He's probably the most unselfish player in the draft and by all accounts is a great kid and teammate.

It's amazing to me how many in here root for him to fail. All because his father is a self absorbed loudmouth.

Well newsflash you shameful MFs:

You don't get to choose your parents. You simply have to deal with them until you're old enough to fend for yourself. And it appears that with his father's tutelage, his son will get the one in a million chance to be an NBA player and millionaire.

And look at y'all. You created and constantly commented in this thread FULL of negativity all to disparage someone.

I think that says more about y'all than it does about Lavar.

He raised an NBAer. Can any of you do that?

He's got that JKidd court vision...... I said the same thing about Kendall Marshall. Will be interesting to see what happens. Asked CJ about him when all this stuff with his dad broke and he said opposing players don't even think about that kinda' stuff. I find that hard to believe, but thats what he said. Said he would have any extra motivation to light him up. Wonder if his dad had called CJ out if he would. I bet Curry and Kyrie especially will be a little pumped to bring it the first time they match up. I bet it will be on primetime on ESPN/TNT on Christmas! I'll be watching thats fo sho!

I think most of the disdain rubs off from L@ker hate. I thought I had heard that Lonzo was a L@ker fan, which is enough for me to dislike him. If that is not true and it is all his dad, then I don't personally want Lonzo to fail--unless he is drafted by the L@kers than I hope he turns into a flaming turd.

But Kidd had that same vision and anticipation on the defensive end, which is what made him so great. I don't see these others having those same defensive abilities, which is why I think Ball will struggle.

Agreed, not to mention that Kidd played in an era when shooting was not an emphasis. As he proved late in his career, he likely could have adapted had he needed a consistent shot. Ball will have to prove that he can revamp his shot for the NBA and be successful with it. Having the passing of Kidd without the defense (or, potentially, the rebounding--he has the length for it, but he'll need to get stronger) and without being able to shoot will not lead to stardom.

To be clear, I'm not saying he won't be able to shoot--we just don't know until we actually see his new shot, and that creates an additional risk factor. Steph Curry, in an unrelated interview years ago, said that he initially had a shot that he was very successful with in high school, but he started it low and cocked from the side (much like Ball does now) and his father Dell told him that that shot wouldn't work in the NBA, so he revamped his shot all the way back then. Lonzo will have to do that now--somewhat late in the game.

They are born and raised in LA. Of course they're Laker fans. It's just like a kid, born in Portland, playing for the Ducks, then wanting to get drafted by the Blazers. Bottom line, he's a kid...

You're the only one in here that said he will struggle because of defensive abilities. Everyone else has said he will struggle because of his ball-handling and shooting.

And?

I'm just saying he isn't the second coming of Kidd.

I don't remember too many northwest products locking in on the Blazers. Love never did. It's a choice.

what kind of ripples does it cause in the draft if they pass, and who is it they plan on taking instead? draftexpress' first curveball

The rumor is if they draft today the Lakers would not draft Ball. Right now they don't see him as a star. They are saying his workout with them better be a great workout, right now they got Fox and Jackson ahead of him. Plus his father is not helping his son.
