OT LaVar is costing his son MILLIONS of dollars

Damn this guy is insufferable even when not talking. It's his son who should be the one that's getting all the attention, but nooooooo, not with dad around.

Does it seem like if Lonzo sucks in the league, that Lavar will stop supporting Lonzo and move on to the next son to make it big in the NBA and so on until the youngest is in the league?

I hope I am wrong, and Lazar loves his son even if he is a bust but it seems to me like Lavar's support for Lonzo is anchored with a big pay day and if he doesn't get it that support goes away and he moves on to the next son.

I guess we won't know till it happens.

This guy reminds me a lot of Trump, everyone on earth seems to hate the guy because he's an idiot but somehow he commands a lot of attention and knows how to stay in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Oddly there is a portion of the country that still supports him, and I imagine there is going to be a minority of the country that will also fall for LaVar's gimmick too even though both of them are the most obvious of obvious snake oil sales men.

His company already made one million from sales of the new shoe if the rumour is true. Which means it can already be a success.

I know people are stupid, but I still doubt they are this stupid

This thread has 8 pages so far of Lavar is stupid.

Like him or not, and I don't, his marketing plan is working.

Having people talk shit about you, is not the same as sales. And I'm pretty sure sales is the goal.

$157,685 in 24 hours. Those are the real numbers.

He has the entire country talking about it. Genius marketing.

Had he priced these at $100 a piece, no one would care, and no one would buy

So he's moved like 300 units. And the entire country knows about them. Wow. What a genius.

He basically got 300 "fuck it(s)"

And I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those sales are fake.

He's lucky guys like Michael Bennett bought 2 pairs just to buy two pairs. Lavar is a shitty business man.

C&P this from the BigBallerBrand web site.

That's actually not a lot of money, and you would suspect sales are going to drop off too. It's inevitable for any release, the first few days are always the best because that is when the "gotta have it" are buying the shoes. Let's be honest, there are not a whole ton of people out there who love this guy. There is certainly a cult following, but I'm not sure how many sneaker heads are running out to get these shoes, I would bet it's mainly the "Big Baller" faithful who are buying these.

But at least now we know why he priced them at $500... They need to be that over priced when you can only sell 300 shoes immediately upon their release.

I would hazard a guess that the only people buying these shoes are collectors who view them as an oddity that will increase in value for the very reason the company will fail. They aren't selling on their own merits - they are selling as a piece of future history. The worst, most failed products generally have a short life span and therefore become "rare", and if there's a story connected to it, they become a mile marker in the evolution of the product.

Also, $1.5 million in sales, but how much have they spent on manufacturing and advertising?

If Lonzo becomes a superstar, like a legit superstar (none of that "James Harden is a superstar!" BS) I'm talking Jordan, LeBron, Durant, Olijuwan... And this company takes off and somehow miraculously becomes even half as big as Nike/Adidas/UA, then the pair of signed ZO2s would still only be an okay investment.

Look at it this way, "limited release" doesn't mean 10 pairs in this case. It means "won't always be available", so if 1,000 people buy the autographed shoes, then should you try to profit on resale some day you would be competing with what would likely be at least 350 people trying to do the same thing.

To put that into perspective - There is only 1 pair of Jordan's Flu Gams shoes, and those went for 100k at auction.

Had he not ran his mouth and ruined his sons chances of a shoe contract Lonzo could have signed a multi million dollar shoe deal. Nike would have sold his shoes for $100, and people would have cared, they would have bought.

I guess what you consider "genius marketing" I consider poor decision making.

I can't wait to see all the people who are pissed that they bought these if/when Lonzo busts. There are going to be some seriously angry idiots, and an angry idiot raging on twitter can be VERY entertaining. Especially when there will be another idiot defending his idiotic moves to the idiots who are mad at the idiot for taking advantage of them being an idiot...idiots!

I guess our business and marketing backgrounds are just different
Yeah I guess so lol.

I could sell more than 300 boxes of used condoms if I had the camera in my face as much as him.

You would assume that there would be more than 300 UCLA alums that would buy this shoe.

People all over the world know about this, and he's sold 300. Genius.

Fucking your kid out of money. Genius.

You may think $157,685 in gross sales in 24 hours makes him a marketing genius, in which case we'll need to disagree on the definition of genius. Keep in mind that is a gross sales figure, you have to subtract design costs, manufacturing cost, packaging cost, shipping cost, import duty, etc. to arrive at net profit. Plus, remember this is divided by at least four people (Lonzo, his dad and two bothers), plus any other investors. Of that $157,685, I seriously doubt Lonzo Ball sees more than $20k in before tax profits. Something tells me his dad is going to pocket most, if any, profits.

You may consider him a marketing "genius", but as an agent, he's an absolute moron. Contrast his $157,685 in gross sales to the $20 million guaranteed (up to $40 million with incentives) conventional endorsement deal Ben Simmons signed with Nike last year. Like Simmons, Lonzo had multiple established shoe company bidding on his services. So far, at least, the title of this thread is accurate. His dad has cost him millions of dollars.

He as also put a ton of pressure on his son and generated a lot of resentment and ill will. Lonzo actually seems like a decent kid , but everywhere he goes, people are going to be rooting for him to fail, because of the shit his dad has said.

I'm guessing whoever pitched him the shoe idea is gonna take him on a ride and they never get produced due to "logistical isues"

I get business, but thanks for taking me back to intro to business

What I think will happen is Lonzo will have a "break away from daddy" moment in a few years, and sign with someone.

The marketing genius part is that he has the entire country talking about him and his brand. COMPLETELY FREE advertising on EVERY major sports channel and show.

My wife knows the name Lonzo Ball, but ask her who Markelle Fultz is and she has no idea.

He's branding, and it's genius. If Lonzo plays well, his plan will generate more money than he can count. If he is a bust, then the shoe deal he signed would get cancelled quickly. No risk to what he's doing.

I suppose, by that criteria, the Cash Me Ousside girl is a marketing genius too? I know about her, though I have no idea WHY I know about her.

I think it's more likely that Lavar is experiencing his 15 minutes of fame, than that he's a marketing genius.

To play devils advocate here... what was the risk to be had if he signed a $20 million dollar deal with a company before he set foot on the court? He's a top player with a name already (with or without dad), he was going to get a shoe deal anyway.....
