"Lefty" Bitching About Taxes

I disagree. He's an uber-talented and competitive person. One of the very best in the world at what he does. I'll take his opinion over some internet schlubs, or even a President who has never earned a private sector dollar in his life, yet rails against "the rich" only to create an atmosphere of conflict and class warfare.

Cool - I disagree, too. Nothing wrong with disagreeing. It's always been common sense to me to consider your audience. Consider what you do and say before you do it. Bitching about taxes and crying poormouth when you know the general public will see your comments, the same general public that supports you, the same general public that makes pennies on the dollar compared to you....... and you know your sponsors will see you comments, the same sponsors that pay you millions to glance twice at their product.....

I don't disagree with Phil in the least. Aside from he needs to consider his honest. I hate stupid people. I have no tolerance for dumb people. And what he did was something I'd expect from a stupid person. So I guess that's why it rubs me wrong.

Mickelson's major endorsments.

Mickelson earns more than $30 million annually from endorsement partners: Callaway, Barclay's, KPMG, Exxon, Rolex and Amgen/Pfizer

Callaway: for golfers only
Barclay's: for rich people
KPMG: for rich people
Exxon: people need gas; I wasn't aware of this one. Must not be a major endorsement
Rolex: for rich people
Pfizer: for rich people.

Hell, he probably just made himself more money in endorsements. The people who buy the stuff he peddles also are high-earners, and pay high tax rates.

It's not like his primary endorsements are El Pollo Loco, 7/11, and Wal Mart.

Well Kobe raped a girl and still making tons of money on endorsements. We just talked about ray Lewis and how he's gonna still make money after the murder case. I think complaining the government is raping him on taxes is hardly any worse.

Wow, you're really stretching that analogy.

Comparing someone who is paying more than they want in taxes versus actually physically raping someone? This analogy is far worse than the one in the Ray Lewis thread.

No problem. After researching Phil's endorsements, I think he may actually have helped out the businesses he gets paid to promote and sell.

Pfizer is for rich people? Really? What in Pfizer is he endorsing? Pfizer is a pharmaceuticals company. I take all sorts of meds - I don't consider myself rich. Is he endorsing some super drug from them?

I know lots of people with Rolexes, myself included, most of whom I would not consider "rich". Not all Rolexes are out of the ordinary man's price range. Callaway - there are a lot of golfers in this world. KPMG is not completely for rich people. They are tied to a couple of tax software that ordinary people use to file their taxes.

I think the only people who would be outraged are MSNBC watchin' liberal kooks! :MARIS61:

And you're still forgetting the $70MM made on the tour. You do understand how the fans support the events and pay for tickets to the events help pay Phil's winnings? And the bigger the events, which are made big by the general public's interest, draws sponsors? The bigger the event, the more money is in play? The bigger the event, the bigger the champion is. The bigger the champion and the more recognizable he is, the more companies pay in sponsorship.

Like I said, I don't think Phil owes us anything (I like to golf, but I'm not much of a PGA fan).... except maybe a little common sense. It's not just Phil. I feel this way every time some wealthy celeb starts bitching about money.

Yeah, I'm sure people will boycott Pfizer and stop taking their prescription drugs now because of Phil! :MARIS61:

Pfizer and Big Pharma is for rich people with decent healthcare plans that pay co-pays for Pfizer meds. I used to be in Pharma, and poor folks are pretty much stuck with generics for a long-term medication plan.

Walk into NE or SE Portland right now and ask how many people there know what KPMG. You'd probably get punched.

Plus, you have a Rolex? You're an elitist snob (j/k). A Timex tells time too, and you could have donated the rest to charity or given more tax money.

LOL at saying Rolex, Pfizer, Calloway, and KPMG aren't associated with upper-class earners.

I'd imagine the type that watches Golf has a much higher networth/income than the average America ergo they are more sympathetic to his #richpeopleproblems

"Doc, please give me the outdated generic version of my Lipitor. That Phil Mickelson has gone too far this time!"

I'm not saying they're not elitist products.

LOL at you for not being able to read.

BTW, Pfizer also makes brands like Advil. Such an elitist brand! I had one today - I'm rich BEEYATCH!!

Do you know how the pharmaceutical industry runs? Generics, are often made by the big guys. So yeah, Pfizer potentially makes generics of their own big brands. And when they don't, they do collect some royalities, depending on the drug and situation.

Advil has their own marketing plan. Most people recognize the Advil brand w/out knowing Pfizer developed it.

Pfizer markets itself on top of the line meds, with Lipitor being their moneymaker these days.

And yes, I know how the pharma industry works. I spent 4 years in it. Why are you so angry today?

LOL. Obviously, I don't doubt that wealthier households watch golf. But still.... if fewer than 3% of households make above $200K. There's a significant difference in tax rates for Phil's income and even $200K.

LOL. I'm not angry. Why do you always accuse people of being angry? Is it because you're always so seemingly bent?

But really... I understand why Phil is upset. He just shouldn't be so dumb about it. The fact he came out and apologized about it seems to support my perception more than it would the other perception. Simple as that.

Not that I'd expect most of the people on this board to understand when it's good time to shut up, present company included.

New TiVo research: Republicans watch golf, Democrats prefer NBA

:MARIS61:

lol @ "Tivo research". but i imagine its true. probably not a lot of Ocupy Wallstreet socialists types rocking the Vijay Sing polo shirts.

No, but that's because nobody rocks a Vijay Singh polo. Especially considering most of the people I saw at the Occupy Movements were not employed, so I'm not sure where they'd find the money to buy a polo.

Why do you always use hyperbole? When was the last time I even posted that I thought someone was angry? I asked the question because you seemed angry in this thread.

Phil's endorsements may as well be called "shit rich white folks buy", and just throw that all into a bucket. I find it funny how worked up some of you are over Mickelson daring to say he may move from CA.

Because pretty much every time you respond to me, you ask why I'm angry. I see you do this. Is it part of your schtick? Is this something you do? Is this because your wife is always angry at home, so it's natural instinct?

No, I just think Phil had a poor lapse in judgment and did something stupid. I don't think anyone's worked up over him moving from CA. Very simple, like I said earlier, he should learn when to keep his mouth closed. Just message board banter over the course of a day. I had time to banter today, so I did. I was jumping from this thread to others during the day shooting the shit just fine. This and the Ray Lewis were the two busy ones for a bit.

Several of those things are perhaps "shit rich white folks buy." But you've certainly over-expanded, speaking of hyperbole. A lot of people use KPMG and their products, same with Pfizer.

lol @ you still thinking Phil gives a shit about the apology.

so naive. :MARIS61:

I don't think that's it at all. Why does he care if they're whining? Unless he frequents this board, he's not seeing this conversation.

In real life. He'll get hecklers. He'll be on the news. He'll be on Rachel Maddow. Its just inconvenient for him to have that in his life.

So he obviously cares for one reason or another. Or he'd let the hecklers do their thing.

Again, he doesn't want to be bothered by them. So in that respect he cares not to be harassed so he put out an insincere apology to tell them to basically fuck off.

The he should really just tell them to fuck off. If that's really what he meant. Cuz that's what he did the first time.
