Legit game changers to put Portland into contention

Let's just name the best players on the league whill were at it.

We can dream of shit they could never happen or think about it logically. We could sat Durant but he'd never join this group. We could trade for DMC, and suddenly we have a chance at him.

If there's other realistic options then that'd be a good discussion. But naming the best players out there is kinda pointless.

As far as actual, obtainable people, DMC is probably at or near the top of the Makes A Difference scale.

Which is my point exactly! You and one other are willing to give 5 solid young players (you even wanted to add draft picks) for Boogie Cousins. And how many truly believe he and Dame can contend. It reminds me so much of what NY did to try and bring Melo in.

To date, Boogie cousins hasn't lead his team to anything to brag about, yet somehow he can come in to a gutted team with Dame and be legit contenders because free agents will flood in.

With Durant and LeBron free agents why would you need to trade anyone?

Trades are for suckers.

Sigh... Maybe you weren't paying attention. The exercise is on the value of betting the farm. Which player(s) would you bet the farm on?

the problem is you overrate our farm drastically. Id give it a 10-15% chance one of those guys ends up as good as DMC. The thing is, Dame+Boogie is better than Amare/Melo, and New York didn't have $40M in cap space after signing those guys. So gutting the team doesn't mean crap because wed have so much cap space to replace them with players and better veterans.

And your point exactly? There's no one else realistic. We could get the best Center in the league.

Demar Derozan = Elliot Williams

To the topic, I think Boogie could be one of the bigger names we may bring.

We don't need any of them to be as good as Boogie. You know why?! Because you can still field a solid team with the players we currently have.

Gutting the team for Boogie has red flags all over the place. We have already seen evidence that boogie will be a negative impact if the team isn't good. If we can't field another winning team, Boogie will whine, bitch and moan and most likely leave. You truly want us fans to go through another Aldridge fiasco if we aren't immediate contenders?

The deal is, Boogie with a team with upside or players that can field immediate contention. If you can get him without trading our entire farm, we are good. If you need to give them the farm, then it's disaster waiting to happen.

Why would we trade everyone for Steph Curry? A Lillard curry backcourt would be a nightmare defensively and they both need the ball in their hands.

Also, the TRUE keys to GS are Draymond Green & Andre Iguodala; NOT Curry. Curry IS an awesome player Perennial All-Star :blahblah:... BUT GS could've replaced his spot w/ a so-so guy & they STILL would've won the championship this yr.

Please bold the statement where I said or even implied Dame is a scrub.
You said LBJ is the only player that can take a team with just scrubs to contention. For the exercise, I said a player, with dame, to contention. I must have misunderstood what you were trying to say since it conflicts my OP

This thread isn't necessarily a thread to see who is obtainable, but who could legitimately put us into contention with a starting core of just Dame. Then u build around them after you've traded the farm to get this player.

For this exercise, you have the option of getting any talent in exchange of every other player, excluding Dame of course.

And yes, you still need role players, but for arguments sake, the higher upside players on our current team would be necessary to get this said player. Also, the newly acquired player has agreed to some Max extension, so we are guaranteed this player is willing to play with us for the next 5 years.

I will start with a player.

Kevin Durant. The duo of Durant and Dame is a legit big two. Adding Durant with Dame will almost guarantee that we could land a third big time player to compete for a title. Durant's age is young enough to stay in a legit 5-6 year window of title contention.

I'm not the biggest fan of KD/Lillard as a 1-2 punch.
I don't think they'd go very far due to both of them having significant issues on one side of the ball.
They'd be dynamic offensively sure. But there is really no difference between KD/Lillard and Melo/Lillard.
Blazers might score 120+ ppg but they'd give up 150+ pgg with KD or Melo

If I was to pick a player out there and we were taking LBJ out of the equation.
I'd pick Paul George over almost anyone out there. Even Davis.

Id give it a 10-15% chance one of those guys ends up as good as DMC.
I'd give Meyers better odds than that. But the thing is, I'd give that GROUP of players about a 100% chance of being better than DMC alone.
