<div align="center"><u>I Hate Mainstream Music and Everything it Stands For</u></div><div align="center">A Rant by KMart</div> OK, so I wake up this morning and pop in my R30: Rush DVD. After finishing it, which took a solid 3 hours, I got up and proceeded to head for the shower. On the way, I passed my sister's room, where I heard her blasting "Ashlee Simpson." It was then I realized this: Mainstream music is artificial. Every genre from rap, to rock, to nu-metal, to pop, to country, is somewhat manufactured and created by everyone other then the artist presenting it. Let's focus on the biggest culprit of this problem: Pop. Now I come off hearing Rush, a Canadian Progressive Rock band that has lasted 30 years through turmoil and depression, guys who make 1/10th of what Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears make, and I'm actually disgusted. These "artists", who I will not call musicians, are given previously recorded beats, melodies, chorus lines... basically everything except lyrics (which is sometimes given to them) and proceed to play and entertain in whatever manner they are command to do. The result? Millions of dollars for no effort at all, lip-syncing and dancing on stage in an effort to represent their sex appeal while totally discarding the art that is music. Let's look at another dose of reality: Kurt Cobain is generally regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. However, during the making of one of his records (Nevermind, if I'm not mistaken), Cobain actually enlisted someone to help him create and practice guitar passages. How's that, one of the "greatest guitar players of all time" needing assistance to create music. Further proof in Zakk Wylde's live concerts, as this "unknown" guitarist in the press who is actually a top 25 guitarist of all time, regularily dedicates songs to Mr. Cobain in sheer disgust of his inability to create his own guitar parts. All these fans who claim to love artists like "Britney Spears" or "Justin Timberlake" or "Creed" or "50 Cent" or "All - American Rejects" ... These artists will not be remembered 20 years from now. Hell, I can't remember any bands people listened to not 6 years ago in the 5th Grade. Can you? These artists are just "playas," and as we know, the biggests playas get the most hos. Whoever has "the look," whoever has the biggest entourage gets the best creators on their side, and evidently makes the most money. When these "playas" start losing it, then there won't be anymore "hos," hence the reason why so many bands have faded into obscurity from the mainstream eye. I hate mainstream music. Not only because I think most of it sucks in general, but because most of it is a simply ploy at the minds of 15 year-olds who only care about listening and mirroring everyone else. Before you say: "No, I actually like the up-beat tunes of Blink-182 or the beats of 50-Cent or the combination of elements in Linkin -Park..." Ask yourself this: Do you really think you'll listen or remember any of these entertainers when you're 30 years old? When you go to a pop concert, are the majority of listeners not between the ages of 10 and 21? It's the now, not the future. There's a reason 40 year-olds attend Metallica concerts. There's a reason 60 year-olds actually like the Grateful Dead. There's a reason 50 year-olds headbang at Iron Maiden concerts. These people made music for the love of it, not the money (Well, in Metallica's latter years you can discard that theory, but I digress) Fans love this music enough for it to be real, to last a lifetime, and not just enough for it to be a "fad." Do you really believe that if Sum - 41 made miniscule amounts of money they'd still make the music? Do you really think if Nickelback churned in 100,000 albums sales wroldwide they'd keep it up? Do you really think if Jessica Simpson had to keep her job as a Christian singer she would still be making music? Music has gone so downhill these days it sickens me. To the current bands (Linkin Park, System of a Down, Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Muse) that actually write their own music in an attempt to love something, I commend you. To the 90% of you other artists who act as "musicians" in order to make money and sell yourself, F*ck you. And the fact you're taking advantage of idiotic 15 year-olds pisses me off even more. Oh well, when your legacy ends, you'll be no more than a joke.<div align="center">My how I hate mainstream music and everything it stands for.</div>
