I'm looking for some sort of basketball fix right now, and the closest thing I can find is the FIBA Americans Championships start in late August and run til mid-September.
USA is exempt from competing, but there should still be a lot of NBA players in it. I looked for rosters, and although I couldn't find any, I know that Venezuela's probably going to have Greivis Vasquez playing, as the host country. Canada, Brazil, and Argentina could fill their rosters full of NBA/NCAA/Euroleague talent, and the Dominican Republic could bring in guys like Horford, Villanueva, Garcia, and the 2015 lotto prospect Karl Towns.
Traditionally, the winner of the tournament gets an automatic bid into the next Olympics, so I wouldn't be surprised if guys like Horford, Splitter, Huertas, Barbosa, and Thompson participated. I guess the question is whether or not the old guys from Argentina will participate (Ginobili, Scola, Delfino, Nocioni, etc.).
I'd at least watch the final four of that tournament.
