Letter from our dumbass GM

What core and prospects is he talking about? The core of this team is rotten and the prospects never get their fair shot or are simply third liners. When I first saw a letter I was hoping it was a resignation letter from him

This is not a rebuild, its a re-tool.
The only tool is the author of the letter. What a buffoon. He's gonna fuck this franchise for years to come.

That’s terrible. Dark times for this organization.

Rangers announce (ANNOUNCE!!!!) they are not signing Panarin to an extension...talk about giving up your leverage with trade offers. Drury is out of his depth.

OK, the Rangers didnt actually announce they aren't extending Panarin but its been leaked that they are not offering him an extension. They better hope he doesnt get hurt before they can unload him.

To me, a letter like this is another example of why the Rangers are a joke. Do other organizations in any sport send letters out to say they are "retooling", yet the Rangers do and did last time as well, it is very odd. It could also reduce leverage because teams know the Rangers have committed publicly to "retooling". Dumb.

With that said, as maybe the biggest longest Drury hater, I'll at least give a small amount of "credit" that he/they have finally realized the team is awful, and big changes are needed. It took him a lot longer to get there than a Pres/GM with a brain would have taken to get there, but at least he's finally there.

I'll also say it's smart to move on from Panarin. The Panarin signing was a very good one for the Rangers, but he's run his course here. There is no place for him on this team moving forward next year and beyond.

I believe this only matters if at least one of Zibanejad or Fox is moved. Trading UFA's to be Panarin/Soucy, doesn't mean sh*t.

Trading Trocheck, who I think would bring a very good return, is something, but he is a good player, signed to a very good contract, and is exactly the kind of guy you want here moving forward (which is why he'll have good value in a trade).

They have to get one of Zibanejad, $8.5M cap hit for four more seasons after this season, OR Fox, $9.5M cap hit for three more seasons after this season, off the team.

Next is Miller, $8M cap hit for four more seasons and Lafreniere, $7.45M cap hit until 2032. Unless I can get good value, I would keep Miller here. And unless I could get top level value, I would not trade Lafreniere. I still believe he has talent in there, and I wouldn't deal that away for a lesser return.

Bottom line, for this "retool" to mean anything, Zibanejad or Fox must be gone. And seeing Drury mention core players, if I were to guess, Igor and Fox are at the top of that list with Cuylle and a few others.

Which is why I will say what I've been saying for a long time, Zibanejad has to go. He is everything that's wrong with this team. Sure, he's had a bounce back season scoring wise, but he plays with zero passion, not a ton of effort, if I were to guess he is not a good influence in the locker room or with kids like Lafreniere or Cuylle. Not the end all be all stat, but he's an astonishing -37 combined this season and last season, and growing, that's horrific.

I'm saying it right now, again, Zibanejad MUST go, he'd be my # 1 focus to get him to waive his NMC and move him, even for a smaller return just to get rid of his bad influence and his $8.5M cap hit. Without that, this "retool" doesn't mean sh*t.

What about Mika Zibanejad though? I'm not clear on what you think the Rangers should do with him.

Rebuild to me means no Fox, Mika or Miller, who has lived up to all the negative things written about him in Vancouver, he was the wrong choice as Captain. I don't think it's surprising that the Rangers are not making Artemi an offer when he's the Rangers most attractive trade piece. The players for the most part have been garbage and Sullivan hasn't helped matters. Maybe this pep talk from Drury will inspire them today.

I hope it doesn't inspire them at all. At this point, we should want them to lose as much as possible to maximize their draft pick.

To me, everyone should be available in the right deal, even if I prefer not to deal Trocheck, Lafreniere, and Igor for example. I do agree, at least one of Fox, Mika, or Miller has to go for it to be a legit "retool" as Drury called it. I said one of Zibanejad or Fox, but you could throw Miller in there as well.

As for Panarin being their most attractive trade piece, it really does depend on what Panarin agrees to. If he says Tampa or nothing for example, the return will be much lower as the Rangers will have no leverage. Which is another reason why I don't like the "letter", even if it hurts leverage only a little bit, it doesn't make sense.

You could see a world where Trocheck is their most attractive trade piece if Panarin says only one team. Speaking of Trocheck, he absolutely should have been named captain over Miller, but since Miller was named captain just this past offseason, I do question whether the Rangers would trade him, or if they consider him a "core player" as Drury wrote. If the culture is as bad as I believe it to be, Mika and Miller should both go as I think they are the main culprits, in that order, after Drury.

The questions on the table:

1. Who will agree to waive their NMC's/NTC's and for what teams (ideally needs to be more than one each otherwise the returns will be less). Mika, Fox, Miller, Panarin etc.?
2. Does Drury have the skillset to have those conversations in a professional open and honest manner to get those guys to waive their NMC's/NTC's?
3. If Drury does convince guys to waive, does he have the skillset to pull off good trades for the Rangers for the picks/prospects/cap space he mentioned in the letter?

We'll see...

If this team would be run by the fans they would have more cups to be honest lol

When you say it out loud it's really astonishing. The Rangers have ONE Stanley Cup in 86 years, ONE Stanley Cup since 1940. It's almost impossible to be that inept. Crazy.

In typical Rangers fashion/luck, they should have a ton of cap space this summer, and the "best" UFA available appears to be Alex Tuch in Buffalo after all the top guys re-signed, and he is not really a fit as a RW. I guess that's what a rising cap will do, it gave all these teams cap room to bring their own UFA's to be back.

Panarin's time is up here. He was a very good signing, but it's time to move on. It's already reported he rejected a team friendly deal, so he wants his $$$, which is his right of course. They'll suffer in the regular season without him, but to what end big picture as he was average at best in the postseason. As for Zibanejad, he is a PP wiz, but to me brings very little to the team outside of that. He's lazy, not focused on D at all, and is not a good influence on the kids, he must go also.

It's going to take delicate conversations/creativity, and a lot of courage/balls from Drury to make this work.

Delicate conversations/creativity to get these players to waive their NMC's/NTC's and to get other teams to trade the Rangers anything of value.

Courage/balls for Drury to part ways with multiple players from this list +: Panarin, Zibanejad, Miller, Fox, Soucy, Trocheck, Lafreniere etc.

I'll tell you this also, if you cannot find a way to get Schneider into a top 4 role, trade him also. That means Fox or Borgen must go, because the Rangers seem dead set against moving a R shot dman to LD. To be clear, I DO NOT want to trade Schneider and would much prefer to deal Fox or Borgen, but if Drury doesn't/cannot, it is terrible asset management to play Schneider on the 3rd pair. In that case you are much better off trading him rather than re-signing him as a RFA this summer, and I bet he would bring back a good return.

Bottom line, I have .000000001% faith that Drury can pull it all off.

I think Dolan is so aloof that he actually didn't know how hated Drury is by this fan base. I'm guessing he's finally figuring it out with the Fire Drury chants from the half full arena.

This is the key, and all Dolan cares about. If anything will wake him up, this will. Maybe that's why the "letter" happened in the first place.

It’s not a re-tool It’s a complete rebuild Drury’s a liar and a fucking delusional fuck. There is no core. When you don’t have any young centers that are first or second line talents you don’t have a young core. Pecker head Drury needs the scout all around the league and find out what close to NHL young center is ready with top two line talent and see if he can acquire him.

Only top center prospect I see might be O’Brian on Seattle or maybe if Anaheim loses patience they can steal McTavish.
