For the record, I just turned some money down as well. Boss came to me with another raise, but asking me to work a bit more, I said, sorry. Id rather stay where im at because my personal life isn't affording me much more time and Id rather him use the money to find help in other areas in the office.

Yes, it does happen in other professions... for those who have a bigger picture in mind than just their bank account.

I do understand we are a material world though and i'm sure i'm in the minority....

I wont fault him if he takes it, But I wont be happy. If he truly wants to win, he will take less to improve his supporting cast.

I'm pretty nervous about this really. I think this is what could put a stamp on us never going anywhere if he accepts it.

The Blazers are so far over the cap anyway that there's not going to be any money for major free agent signings anyway, with or without the supermax contract for Dame.

Now, but not true down the road as contracts expire and this team inevitably changes. When that happens, I want more flexibility to make this team better, not have to do the same thing we have done the last three years.

Dame is very good, but he's not in Curry or Giannis's class so he needs more help. He can only get more help if there is more money. More money equals more help equals better team for which he is the face and the leader....which means more money for him from other sources.

Yeah he is.

And are you implying that Curry doesn't need help? He has four all-stars on his team, lol.

Perhaps some here might need better Financial Advice. I know someone who can help them.... :welcome:

Yeah without that help he could throw up all the threes he wanted and still lose

Not near the shooter Curry is nor as good of a ball handler.

With Giannis, it's about flexibility and defense along with putting up huge numbers. Curry obviously doesn't need as much help as we might think as he is winning at a 90% rate WITHOUT Durant and won on the road without both Durant and Iggy.

This isn't a slight on Dame. Curry is just that good and that is who the Blazers are going to have to beat. So far in the last 4 years in the Playoffs, they are 1-12. That is not making progress.

We really need our eye roll emoji more accessible.

This isn't about economics. This is about a guy earning what he deserves.

Well a lot of people disagree with you since Dame was 1st team last year and Curry 3rd team. I think he's in the same class. I'm sorry Curry only had two all-stars playing with him, Dame had zero. Making the western conference finals is progress, I'm not sure how that's debatable.

Still think that Draymond is a huge part of Curry's success. They're a positive feedback loop, where each makes the other better than they'd otherwise be. Curry is an analytics-driven version of Steve Nash. But Nash couldn't pass to Amare to run the offense while he ran off screens.

You cant trap Curry because they have Green.

And the salary cap nightmare continues. In the NFL you see stars taking less money so the team can put better players around them. How often does that happen in the NBA?

Dame already took less money the last time he extended

Obviously, this won’t be done until all of the other off-season moves are made so it won’t affect moves this summer. But from there on out, man that’s a cap hit. No other option and definitely due given Dame’s contributions on and off the court, but it really puts the pressure on Olshey to get the roster work done this summer.

The idea that a Championship team can be built without paying top dollar for at least 6-8 players is silly.

You get what you pay for.

I'd really like to drive a Porsche. Porsche should sell it to me for less so that I have more money available for all of the little things that will make that Porsche really look good when I drive it, maybe a little bling to hang around my neck, a nicer home so it will look good in my driveway, you know, I have expenses to make that Porsche really work for both of us. They should really take a discount.

Tom Brady and Tim Duncan didn't not take max contracts when they were in their prime. They took less when they were older.
Besides, Tim Duncan had like 2/3rds of his season without income tax.

But if in the long run you are earning MORE, where does the eye roll come in?

I don't know why this is even a thought. It isn't true in any other profession.
Really? Look at the NFL and their QBs. Except for a select few, it's virtually impossible to put a supporting cast around a QB off of his rookie contract.

But if in the long run you are earning MORE, where does the eye roll come in?
You talk of this as if it's a guarantee that Dame taking less would make us a championship contender. If this is the kind of financial advice you're giving, good luck getting any takers.
