Lillard to play in summer league???

I thought this was expected? He said he was going to Vegas a few days ago, he'll probably play a game or two.
 
Seems silly to me. Remember Nolan Smith got hurt last year, so why should we risk Damian getting injured? He doesn't need any practice. This should be CJ McCollumn's time to shine.
 
Freeman's article implied that he thought it was more about an opportunity to practice with CJ and get some work in. Anyone remember the dates of the US Select team?

But he wouldn't have to be on the roster to do that.... not saying you're wrong, but it wouldn't make sense to add him to the roster.
 
Well it's either Summer League or pick up games at UCLA (or wherever). So I don't see much harm in it.

Not unusual for young guys to do that... good mid-season workout and good practice time with the rookies with very little injury risk.

More than anything, I'm surprised how many actual Blazers are on ya'lls Summer League roster. It just reminds me of how young the Blazers are. When you look at most teams, more than half the roster are guys who're trying to break into the league.

7 of your 11 summer league players will likely be under contract next season though. That's pretty much half your team competing in the summer league...
 
I still think the bigger story is that Thomas Robinson is not playing. I would REALLY like him to play.

Many players on the 'official roster' don't even get in games. If he does play, it will only be for a few minutes early in the session.

Eh, I'm wondering if they haven't added him because the team hasn't actually introduced him yet.

When the trade is official on the 10th can they still add him in time since they don't play till the 13th?
 
If the Blazers need players for their summer league team I'm available.
 
They have to add a PG to the summer league roster. Yes CJ needs minutes at PG but he also needs minutes as a SG. And more importantly the other players like TRob (I assume he will play) and Crabbe need to play with a true PG. Otherwise they will all look bad.

CJ needs time to develop into a back up PG. But don't shatter his confidence by only playing him there. It will be frustrating for us all to watch.
I could be wrong, but I doubt he will shine there.

Well presumably he was going to play in Summer League for Houston, so I don't see why he wouldn't unless there is a hangup with his physical.
 
So, if Thomas Robinson joins the Summer League squad, that'll be a 12 man squad, with 8 of your likely roster players playing in Summer League. Damn...

Yeah, but Lillard won't play much, if at all. Batum/Matthews/Lopez/LMA won't be there. Ordinarily, I'd be concerned about what that means for the bench, but it literally can't be a worse bench than it was last season. Plus, I still think a few vets will be added this summer that will get some PT and be better than what the bench offered last year. Plus, Lillard did play last year, and without him and LMA, the Blazers don't win 20 games last year.
 
I'm gonna be in Vegas next week. I'm gonna ask my casino manger if she can hook me up with some tickets

If he plays, it will be for a few minutes. He probably just wants to be around the new players with the Blazers paying for it by including him on the rosters.

Wes did the exact same thing last year, remember?

You can show leadership by practicing with the practice team, though. The Blazers pay for it if they put Lilz on the roster. I'm glad he's there.
 
Just with our history, I get freaked out that our guys are going to get hurt. I'd hate to see what happened to Nolan last summer happen to Dame.
 
While a young player can always use more burn, I would rather see him save it for preseason. Was really hoping to see Elliot Williams back for summer league.:chestbump:
 
Rather see him sit on the couch all summer and gain 20 lbs and work it off in camp.
