Why are people shitting on Brandon Roy?
Not sure it is really bashing Roy. No doubt Roy was more "talented" to me than Lillard may ever be. But, Lillard uses his talent much, much better in a team system than Brandon could ever do. Lillard's talents fit with the ball movement and open space provided by allowing LA to be the focal point.
I think we are very lucky to have had both.
To think they were both essentially drafted at #6 is amazing to me. (Technically, we drafted Foye, but it was a maneuver to get Roy).
Roy was, at one point, generally accepted at a top 7 player in the league. Currently Damian is arguably a top 7 PG. Let's not forget the greatness of Brandon Roy just because Lillard has turned out to be awesome. Roy had almost unique scoring skills: remember that Artest called him the hardest cover in the league? And then repeated it, after someone asked him about Kobe? Roy was king of the midrange but could also get a layup any time he wanted. Damian is an average finisher at best, has negligible stop-and-pop, no killer crossover... What he has is unrivaled clutchness and a great three point shot.

I loved Roy. But, you forgot to mention that Roy stunted an offense.

Yeah, Roy's hesitation moves were just awesome to watch. The cross-over, right-to-left layup around three defenders? Pure genius. He also had that sweet turnaround too.

Can someone tally up the game-winners or near game winners for both?
Roy:
Rockets
Wizards
Knicks
Raptors
Lillard:
Cavs
Pistons
Rockets
Hornets
Am i missing any? So it looks like for as much credit as we give Roy for being clutch, Lillard already has more clutch shots (if i weight the series winning shot)
Man, lotta people here bagging on Roy. I'm glad we have Lillard too, but people quickly forget how important Roy was to this city....
I don't see it as "bagging on Roy". I feel like, at least as far as my opinion, Lillard is off to a better trajectory.
Roy was all that. Lillard is all that... and a bag of chips.
I never bought into that. I think KP was more important than Roy, to be honest. I realize I am in the minority though.

I agree.
And I'll just say that Brandon Roy was never my favorite player. I didn't particularly like his attitude or the way he played. Lillard became my favorite player one game into his career. I love the way he plays and conducts himself.
I'm a big fan of Pritchard's time in Portland, but to say he was more important than Roy seems to be a stretch. This franchise was almost dead, Paul Allen had sold the Rose Garden, and it was Roy who made PA get excited about the team again to the point he even repurchased the arena.
You don't live here, so how the fuck would you know?
I was born and raised in Portland and lived there for 40+ years.
So the last 50+ years you've lived in Houston?
50+ish
So, you're pushing 100? Good on ya.
I assume this post is to bait me....not allowed by the forum, by the way.
