Lillard vs Roy - Comparison of first playoff series

Why are people shitting on Brandon Roy?

Not sure it is really bashing Roy. No doubt Roy was more "talented" to me than Lillard may ever be. But, Lillard uses his talent much, much better in a team system than Brandon could ever do. Lillard's talents fit with the ball movement and open space provided by allowing LA to be the focal point.

I was speaking more to the criticisms of Roy off of the court. Hard to believe that Brandon is still only 29 years old. I think there are more than a few posters here who wish Roy had never received a second contract, and that the 2nd contract was in part due to how he performed on his rookie deal.

I think we are very lucky to have had both.

To think they were both essentially drafted at #6 is amazing to me. (Technically, we drafted Foye, but it was a maneuver to get Roy).

Yep. Lillard is one of my favorite Blazers and he's going to take our team (with help from others) back to the top!

Where as Roy helped our team transition from the Jail Blazer era back to believing again!

I say thanks to both!!!

Roy was, at one point, generally accepted at a top 7 player in the league. Currently Damian is arguably a top 7 PG. Let's not forget the greatness of Brandon Roy just because Lillard has turned out to be awesome. Roy had almost unique scoring skills: remember that Artest called him the hardest cover in the league? And then repeated it, after someone asked him about Kobe? Roy was king of the midrange but could also get a layup any time he wanted. Damian is an average finisher at best, has negligible stop-and-pop, no killer crossover... What he has is unrivaled clutchness and a great three point shot.

Roy was a more versatile scorer but Lillard's range is in the building and let's not forget Lillard is adding to his game quickly. His finishing ability has grown leaps and bounds, remember his leaning-hopping lay-up in game 6?

I'd love to see where Dame's game is in two seasons.

I loved Roy. But, you forgot to mention that Roy stunted an offense.

Yeah, Roy's hesitation moves were just awesome to watch. The cross-over, right-to-left layup around three defenders? Pure genius. He also had that sweet turnaround too.

Can someone tally up the game-winners or near game winners for both?

Roy:
Rockets
Wizards
Knicks
Raptors

Lillard:
Cavs
Pistons
Rockets
Hornets

Am i missing any? So it looks like for as much credit as we give Roy for being clutch, Lillard already has more clutch shots (if i weight the series winning shot)

Goosebumps. What I loved most about B-Roy is that he would play slow, but had that burst and that explosiveness when he wanted it.

Dame has one on the Suns this year as well.

Both had a few shots for ties at the ends of games as well. Dame is not as adept at scoring at the rim as BRoy was, but he has far more range than Roy. Both supremely clutch players.

Only Roy/Lillard comparison that matters:

Lillard: Won
Roy: Lost

Lillard: Knees
Roy:

Man, lotta people here bagging on Roy. I'm glad we have Lillard too, but people quickly forget how important Roy was to this city....

Loved Roy...2nd best SG in league (tied with Wade) for three straight years. But Lillard is replicating what he did and more, so I'm just excited.

I never bought into that. I think KP was more important than Roy, to be honest. I realize I am in the minority though.

I don't see it as "bagging on Roy". I feel like, at least as far as my opinion, Lillard is off to a better trajectory.

Roy was all that. Lillard is all that... and a bag of chips.

Roy was on that path...till his knees popped off.

Let's just hope something similar doesn't happen to Dame.

I agree.

And I'll just say that Brandon Roy was never my favorite player. I didn't particularly like his attitude or the way he played. Lillard became my favorite player one game into his career. I love the way he plays and conducts himself.

I'm a big fan of Pritchard's time in Portland, but to say he was more important than Roy seems to be a stretch. This franchise was almost dead, Paul Allen had sold the Rose Garden, and it was Roy who made PA get excited about the team again to the point he even repurchased the arena.

Allen technically didn't sell the RG, but your overall point still stands. I don't understand how KP was more important than the guys on the floor (especially when you considering how few moves he really made, and how many of his picks failed).

There are very few execs in this league that are more important to a team than any of the guys actually on the floor. They do exist, but they are few and far between. KP is nowhere near that level, though.

You don't live here, so how the fuck would you know?

I assume this post is to bait me....not allowed by the forum, by the way.

I was born and raised in Portland and lived there for 40+ years. I think I have a decent take on all things Portland
