Lillard's and Aldridge's relationship. (He will come back Portland one day)

I'm not for trading anything for Aldridge unless we're losing it anyway and can't get equivalent value elsewhere.

If Hassan keeps his hands up, we have to keep him. And don't know if drama queen would be good for this team.

If Neil did land Aldridge I suppose that we'd move Carmelo to SF and Hood comes off the bench?

Dame
McCollum
Anthony
Aldridge
Whiteside

With Anthony, I just don’t see a fit for Aldridge. Rather have Hassan and his defense & rebounding as well as expiring contract.

I like the idea of him coming back at one level but just don’t see a fit.

Except LA is notorious for not wanting to playing center.

That was years ago. Games changed since then.

also, whiteside and melo aren’t under contract for next season. This wouldn’t just be a rental.

If he was willing to play C, and it didn't cost much more than Whiteside and a couple 2nd round picks, sure. But at the same time, his rebounding has dropped off a lot and I don't know if he'd be a good fit. He did leave here kind of having a major diva moment too.

On the plus side, his contract ends next season, so if he's a bad fit it's a short term deal.

I'll be mildly surprised if Portland trades either Whiteside or Bazemore for a player that doesn't have an expiring contract

I bet they trade for a player with an expiring contract *next* year, so they can say that they'll be able to be a player at the next deadline..where they'll trade for a player with an expiring contract the year after that so they can say they'll be able to be a player at the next deadline...and repeat.

my take is that trading for a Love or a Porter or an Aldridge means Portland would be a taxpayer again next season. And the following year would be risking repeater tax (when Dame & CJ's salaries jump a combined 14M). The Blazers have a chance to get that under control this summer as long as they don't add future salary. How good a team they'd be is questionable though

I wonder if the NBA is going to update their projected salary cap before the trade deadline. IIRC, they usually do. The chatter about the China boycotts has died down and I've been skeptical about the predictions of a 10-15% drop in the cap. But even a static cap is going to make things really tight for teams, especially a team like Portland who has committed 55-60% of their cap to two small guards

I think the projected CAP is going to be much lower.

Not because of China, but because of overall viewership is on the decline.

Blows me away. How can a fan just STOP watching their favorite team play regardless of what's going on? Man I never missed a game growing up until I started working for them. No way I'd miss a game, even when they struggled.

I got my love of basketball from my Dad, and I got him to watch some of the playoffs last year, but he basically hates the NBA at this point. He believes most of the stars are manufactured personalities, you can't play good defense without getting called for fouls esp in the regular season. The game is mostly a 3 point contest. Many NBA teams don't know how to run a fastbreak. His list of things he hates about the modern NBA is pretty long and he's been watching it for 60ish years. Thing is a lot of his points, I kind of agree with, or at least I understand where he's coming from.

I have to think that the perpetual migration of top talent to the West is killing the NBA's viewership in the East. Not only are most of the game's top stars playing for WC teams, but games played in the west start at 9:00 pm to 10:30 pm on the east coast and don't finish until midnight or later.

Wait, are you my son?

Seriously, though, while I kind of agree with many of your dad's complaints, I'm still enjoying the game in the 3-point era. The game got pretty boring in the defensive era of the Pat Riley Knicks. I wouldn't mind them allowing a bit more hand checking though.

hah!

I don't think he liked the Knicks, Detroit era, but he is pretty adamant in his opinion that they've gone so much the other way, you can't guard 3 point shooters, the calls stars get now make the Jordan rules seem tame. He also hates how much whining there is when those guys don't get calls, since they get so many anyways. I thought the playoff run last year would get him into the Blazers again, but while he watched some of it, I just can't get him roped into it.

You can thank the 2004 rule changes or something.

wow...those are huge drops. But aren't the TV contracts locked in already? or does revenue contract with ratings?
Don't let ratings fool you. The NBA is more popular than ever. Most of the declining ratings are due to only counting TV cable box and satellite viewers. People watching through streaming services are much more difficult to track for ratings. Plus just look how many people in here illegally stream the games.

This is a problem with all TV not just the NBA.

It's not hard to track "streaming", it's hard to track illegal streaming though.

I'm pretty sure those "ratings" are only including TV viewers to the actual channel. Anyone streaming on their computer, phone, or tablet whether legally or illegally aren't being accounted for in the "declining" numbers.
