Yah, TMZ but quote is from Dame's agent at least.

There's a war over Damian Lillard... with several "major" record labels vying to sign the NBA star to a serious rap deal, this according to his agent.

Lillard's already established himself as one of the best (if not THE best) rapper in the NBA -- and famously started the 4-bar Friday freestyle rap challenge on social media.

He's also racked up more than 4.5 million plays on his SoundCloud page.

Now, the record labels want a piece of the action -- with his agent, Aaron Goodwin, telling TMZ Sports they've been approached by "several major labels" ... though he wouldn't specify which ones.

Goodwin says Lillard is interested -- but doesn't want go down that road until after the NBA season is over.

"We've put it on hold until the summer," Goodwin says ... "We will explore those options versus starting his own label. A distribution partner is really what's needed."

So here's the problem...... musicians tour. That's how they make money. Touring takes up a lot of time.

I don't have any problem with Dame making music. I've listened to his stuff and he's pretty good. If he were to sign with a label, how could he possibly find the time to tour? Or would he just not tour?

His touring is him being an NBA player. He'll probably do really sporadic dates... makes the concerts that much more hype.

Most musicians don't have jobs that pay extremely well like Damian does and that's not even mentioning his endorsement deals that only really top musicians could get. He doesn't need to tour much because he doesn't actually need to make a ton of money from music. I doubt he cares much about that at all. And obviously any label that signed him would have to take that into account.

Monetarily, you're right, but I think touring also builds your esteem. People want to see you live. It's part of the music experience.

That's why I think he'll do really sporadic tour dates... He doesn't need the "esteem" as much, and the "clout" of going to see Dame live in something other than a basketball game has a TON of appeal... in this case less is more.

He makes more money off hoops than he would ever from touring. I could see him hitting some offseasom music festivals though or doing a cameo here and there

"Yo, man, the Blazers are coming to town tomorrow night to play the <insert local team here>!"

"Word? Yo, they on a back-to-back?"

"Nah, man, they chillin' till Thursday to fly to <next city>"

"Daaaaammmmnnnnn we need ta keep watch on Twitter, Dame might be playin' <local hip spot> last-minute!"

Does he have to make money from music? I think the answer is "no" to that. But to be pro, you should be distributed professionally. Let the majors do that, and then you can put that CD or whatever in a frame and call it good. It's not like he's Latrell Spreewell.

Nah, you belong there for assuming that's not some annoying white guy DJ because that's exactly how the people Jammin 95.5 sounded.

"I say, chap, did you read in the paper this morning that Damian Lillard, that talented young fellow that plays for the Portland Trail Blazers will be here in <city> playing our beloved <team> tomorrow?"

"That is fantastic news, Farnsworth! Are they only here for the one evening or will they be off to their next destination forthwith?"

"Gladly, they will be in our fair city for two additional nights, and will not travel to <next city> until Thursday!"

"That truly is a joyous revelation, Farn ol' boy. Perhaps this Lillard will play a local venue so that we might witness his 'rap show'"?

"One can only hope, my friend. We must pay attention to the social media accounts to see if a performance is scheduled."

"Jolly good!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Haven't heard more than a few seconds of it, what do you think of it?
I like it. I'm fine with them kind of being a QR cover band these days, so to me their last album was pretty good. They just decided to say "screw it, let's just play loud and sing high again." I'm down with it.

I hope that if Dame becomes a big enough star, the NBA will give star treatment. We've NEVER benefited from that, we've always been on the losing end of the stick, and we will certainly need to beat a team that has a star protected player to advance in the playoffs, so we may as well have one to make it even. Also, it could bump up his prestige around the league, making Portland a more attractive FA landing spot.

(Good for Dame, I just really like Krysten Ritter)
