Living in the New England area I can tell you this...

My favorite Bosox bandwagon was last year at an M's game in Seattle. A lame Bosox player was riding an M's fan hard, talking about how much Seattle sucked and how great the Red Sox were. I leaned over and told the M's fan to ask the Sox fan who was in first place in the AL East. He did and the Sox fan immediately answered the Red Sox were. I piped up that they were on the downside, looking up at the Rays. The numnut refused to believe it until he looked at the outfield flags and saw the Rays in the #1 spot. It was priceless.

At that point, some people still thought of the Rays as a basement dweller. The bandwagon guy pretty much shut up after that.

I used to like Red Sox fans (possible kinship being a Cubs fan and all), but there really is no difference between them and Yankee fans at this point.

These fucking Red Sox bandwagoners are insufferable. My love for the BoSox is shown by the scars of heartbreak inflicted upon me by years of "almost" and "if only". These Johnny-come-latelys make me sick.

I expect the Blazers will attract these kinds of fans in the future. I reserve the right to hate them with every fiber of my being.

Seconded

You and me both, pal. Being a true fan of a team isn't something you just decide. It's something you have to emotionally earn.

Or getting stabbed and flashing gang signs. BTW, I'd like to thank the Celtics for taking a chance on Sebastian Telfair. You can have your one or two championships with your rent-a-players, that trade will give us more than that.
:dunno:

17-1

There's different types of thugs. There's the Bonzi Wells/Damon Stoudamire/Rasheed Wallace thugs, who didn't know how to win, didn't really care, and always got in trouble with the law. Then there's our thugs, they never have brushups with the law, they are winners, and the only thing they're guilty of is intimidating and harassing the other team.

Honestly, one of the teams that had these three players came within 8 minutes of the Finals. So I really don't think you can say they didn't care. In fact, these three were not thugs at all. Assholes maybe, but not thugs. You need to go back a few years for the real thugs. Dudes like Dontonio Wingfield, Gary Trent, Tracy Murry and Stacy Augmen. They were thugs.

For the record, I hate the Celtics. I have always hated the Celtics. I will always hate the Celtics. I probably hate that team more then any other in the league. They have a certain sense of entitlement that only the Lakers really match. But it's even worse with Boston. Sure, they have 17 titles. Good for you. Sure, McHale should have won GM of the year last year for Boston, with an assist from the Oklahoma Sloppy Seconds. That's fantastic. But don't give us all this shit about the title finally "coming home" again. That's just retarded.

And about Oden. I am truly sorry your obvious and pathetic tank job didn't work out. Neither did Portland's two years before that. The Celtics didn't deserve to get Oden that year anymore the Portland did.

yeah if the Blazers make it to even the 2nd round of the playoffs, get some extra support for that bandwagon that is going to be overflowing with nuthuggers joining as fans.

Being a true fans means sticking with your team through thick and thin. I like other NBA teams and if the Celtics are on a downswing (HELLO 1990's) then yeah I find a team to root for the in the playoffs, because I love basketball, but I always root for the C's to win vs anybody.

to me that's not leaving your team or anything, it's enjoying the game when you team is playing golf :D

If any GM should win GM of the year, it's the Grizz's GM who gave away Pau Gasol for literally nothing.
I mean at least we gave up the #5 draft pick, Delonte West (solid 3rd guard) and some cap relief to get Ray Allen and we gave up A beast in Al Jefferson, a great 6th man in Ryan Gomes and serious cap relief to the T-Pups.

The Lakers gave up a 9th man in dipshit Kwame Brown, an unproven late draft pick and what a late round 1st rounder for Gasol.. that was more pathetic. The Lakers got an all-star and didn't touch the top 8 players on their team.. that's a bad fantasy draft.

and who gave you all that shit about coming home?? The media? If you're going to hate a team, don't let the media's words be the reason why.. it shows a lack of intelligence.

And I don't know of many C's fans who were pissed at the Blazers for getting Oden. Disappointed and upset that the Celts didn't win the lottery.. absolutely. Pissed at the team who won.... never saw it.

So am I.

But, we got hardware to show for it.

I'm glad you get it. Since you're such a big Boston fan, perhaps you can explain where all those die-hard Celtics fans were when the team was sucking ass for most of the late 90s-early 00s.

Does it matter?

I was around.

Sweet. That doesn't explain the other pathetic bandwagoners. If I see another fucking, so-called Red Sox fan who doesn't know it was Bob Stanley and not Billy Buckner that blew the 86 Series, I'm going to lose it. And BTW, your fanbase is populated with people who don't know who the fuck Dino Radja is. New England has shown themselves to have the biggest bunch of bandwagoners around.

I believe the original post mentioned fans that hated Portland for getting Oden. I haven't seen it either, but then again I live in Portland so I probably wouldn't have.

A lack of intelligence when talking about what the media says, when the whole post is about the media in Boston. I appologize for sticking to the point of the post. The sense of entitlement on the part of the Celtics extends far past the team into the media, bloggers and such. Since I can only assume bloggers and the media like the Celtics to some degree (dare I say, perhaps even being fans), I will take what they say as evidence of the beliefs of a larger group of fans. If I am wrong, and there isn't one fan in Boston outside of the media that believes the title belongs in Boston, then bad on me. I feel pretty confident is saying that isn't the case.

So the two most popular teams both got sweetheart deals from GM's with ties to both teams. Weird how that worked out.

And I said in another post, personal attacks via message boards are the acts of a coward. You may think I was wrong, which is fine. But to say that my taking the words of the only window I have into the mind of the Celtics fan as evidence as me being stupid. That just doesn't make much sense.

If I lived in Boston I would probably know, but I imagine those would be the 'fairweather friends' all teams acquire.

Fans like me just wept and prayed for new ownership.. then those bozo's hired Rick Pitino. Fawk me.

I also followed and rooted for the Jazz as Karl Malone is my all time fav non-Celtic ;)
He became a favorite after the 87 (or was it 88?) playoffs when they nearly beat the Lakers and gave them hell.

I tried to find that great picture of the Celtic fan looking at the screen in disbelief when the Celts lost out on the GO Sweepstakes. The guy with the Celts hat on backward with his hands on his head? Then there's also that great photo of a downcast Doc & Danny.

Of course, 3,000 miles away, there was this moment...

Is that HCP in the corner of the screen at about the 30sec mark???

edit: and the 1:30 mark??

I loved that guy!!! even if he was alergic to playing D :D

Dee Brown, Dino and Rick Fox were probably my fav 90's Celtics.. oh and Sherm Douglas's short time with us as well! 'The Little General' FTW!

I tend to not even bother with local media for one team, save to gleam an interview with a player that you won't get from national media.
bloggers = overly zealous fanatics IMO, so I tend to ingnore them too.

I'm a fan, but I don't live and die with every win, I take the season as a whole and realize there will be ups and downs and realise when the team I root for has the talent to challenge or contend and when they don't. I'm also a fan of the sport so I enjoy the game beyond the teams I like in any sport.

To me, most bloggers are more obscessed with everything going on with just their team and anything else that happens in the league is only talked about how it affects their team. It's not a mentality I can relate too.

as for my comment, perhaps I should have said a lack of common sense then, but using the media as a sample and accurate portrayal of a fan base isn't the best way to go, given any media's base for overstating and sensationalizing things. AKA writing shit for the sake of being noticed and keeping your job.

I wasn't saying you're stupid, but it was a stupid thing to say. Being dumb is one thing. Saying something dumb is another.

Okay, where are you from?

grew up in New Brunswick, but now Live in Ottawa Ontario ;)

I'm a fan of the Celtics and Cowboys because those are the teams my pops liked. I also liked the Leafs, even though I'm not a big hockey fan, but I switched over to the Sens when I moved to Ottawa and they got a franchise. Still not a huge Hockey fan, just a casual one

I could care less about baseball.

im sorry but the truth is rooting for guys like garnett, wilfork and harrisson says boston fans have no character. those guys are complete scumbags just like most of the boston fans. its the truth and the truth hurts.

next thing ya know...boston fans will tell me garnett is a "good guy" lol

Garnett is a good guy....to have on your team if you like winning championships. Same goes for Wilfork and Harrison. Just because we root for players doesn't mean we're on board with 100% of their actions.

thats BS to the fullest extent. If you root for a team, then you are rooting for the players and their actions. when you take out a QBS knees or Garbett taunts a young player, you are rooting for them to succeed. sorry but its true.

thats the difference in feeling great about having a roy vs a garnett. roy is a winner and a good guy while garnett wins but look like a real pr!ck doing it.

One day I hope to be as passionate about something as you are about this. Do you really care that much? You're way too serious a person for the two of us to ever have a productive conversation.
