Talk about Bad journalism. If you are gonna rip on a team; you better have your facts straight.

Most of us know the story by now. The Blazers had the #1 pick in the 1983 draft. They could have drafted Michael Jordan (just think of the possibilities that might have brought to Puddletown). Instead they drafted Bowie, a gifted center from Kentucky who went on to…raise race horses in the Bluegrass State. Bowie came to Portland amid high hopes and expectation, but his body just wasn’t up to the rigors of the NBA. Among the low points of his medical history as a Blazer was one of the most gruesome leg injuries you’ll ever see. Bowie arrived in Portland as the solution. The problem was that his body just couldn’t hold up its end of the bargain.

Last time I checked we lost the #1 pick to Houston on a coin flip. Even the dumbest Blazer fan knows this. :sigh:

if we'd had the #1 pick we would have drafted Hakeem and MJ wouldn't have won any championships.

also, it was the 84 draft, not 83.

Also MJ went to Duke, NOT NC!

Not too sure about that. MJ would have been teamed with Ralph Sampson and Houston. They would have been pretty good.

Sampson had two years left after that season of decent play. We would have had the entire 90's to dominate. Possibly some of the late 80's too.

Anything could have happened under that alternate reality. Sampson could have stayed healthy. MJ could have been teamed with a Pippen-type player and blossomed. Lots of variables.

Well if Hakeem won two titles with a shitty squad, then I think he would have a much better shot in PDX playing with Porter, Drexler and Kersey.

Blazers would have never gotten Buck Williams, though, and he was a very integral part of the early 90s title runs. That's not to say he would have been needed, but when playing these kind of "what if" games, you must take into account things that might/might not have happened afterwards.

That's why I didn't put Buck Williams in the scenario.

Yeah, we might not have needed Buck. With the team being serious title contenders, Sabonis might have come over sooner, say 1988 instead of 1996 to play with Hakeem and Clyde. Imagine a high/low game with Sabas in the high post, Hakeem in the low post, Clyde and Kersey on the wings and Terry Porter at the point. What if games are fun, but not nearly as fun as it would have been to watch those guys play together.

Don't forget to give credit where due.....the author is some dumbass named Jack Cluth.
