Oregonian said:Pat Turnidge, a Salem entrepreneur and a former Marion County Republican Party chairman, testified that he remained close with his brother and eventually started a biodiesel business with him and Bruce Turnidge's son, Joshua.
Bruce and Joshua Turnidge are facing aggravated murder charges stemming from a bomb explosion inside a Woodburn bank in December 2008 that killed two police officers, maimed a third and wounded a bank employee.
Oregonian said:Pat Turnidge acknowledged that his brother had worried that the military was spying on citizens, feared the country was descending into chaos and was skeptical about creating change through the political process. But Bruce talked about his concerns in a balanced manner, Pat Turnidge said, adding that he's "one of the finest historical teachers of our founding fathers (and) founding principles."
"He was able to articulate those views in a very common sense way," Pat Turnidge said, adding that his brother had once delivered a speech to area Republicans that prompted a standing ovation and impressed visiting speaker Oliver North.
If the government hadn't tricked him into killing a couple of cops, he'd be running for Senate or Governor now. His name would be up in lights with Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell, and, dare we say it, Sarah Palin. Darn that government, they've robbed the Tea Party of a true believer.
