LOL. Toronto offering Hedo $60 million?

So do you think it is better to overpay for a player and end up with a bad contract this summer or do nothing?
Nothing > bad contract.

We are trying to build something long term, not win now at all costs.

Over pay for the right player. I'm not saying it is Hedo but you almost always over pay for FA's because teams are bidding you up. If we don't over pay and we go with what we have we will not win a chmapionship the way the teams is structured now unless maybe Oden goes crazy next year.

I think there is a lot of angst about the move that was not made - but I think that if you read between the lines - there is a bit more to the story there.

1. Didn't Paul Allen have some health scare (cancer or something like that) at the time?
2. We have heard from KP that Allen now told him to go for it.

Combine the two - and maybe there just wasn't authorization to make these big moves before, but there is now - when Allen is supposedly feeling better, and the team proved that they did not just make it to the playoffs - but actually got HCA...

Define overpaying. I don't think 5 years 50 million is overpaying for a 29 year old SF who is a huge upgrade. I don't think trading spare parts like Travis and Blake for a player like Hinrich is overpaying either.

I definately don't think trading a contract for Vince Carter and his contract would have been overpaying at all.

Quick reports that the Raptors are out of the Hedo running.

Well you make it sound like if KP doesn't make a move, he has blown it. My thought is I hope KP isn't feeling so much pressure as to enter into a bad contract. What if the 60 mil rumor from toronto is true. KP could dump the euro prospects, give away a player worth 3 mil (useing the trade exception) to create more cap room or extend a contract and pay Hedo a lot more (70 mil over 6 years).

The Cater idea was raised during the trade deadline . . . I don't know if there was any truth to it, but I didn't see a lot of posters saying KP should make a move for Cater (just the oppostie). Maybe you were one of the posters thinking KP should trade for Carter, but most didn't like the idea at the trade deadline.

Quick is a tool just throwing bullshit out there!

I think it's obvious, to even the most die hard bakers in here that we need an upgrade. This would make two opportunities, very well maybe our last two for a while, go by without improving the team.

Well if it's true what Quick says then we're Hedo's only suitors. Detroit is looking to get Ben Gordon and CV so they can't sign him. If Orlando is offering 7.3 million then we should be able to get Hedo for a little bit more than that maybe 8 or 8.5 mill a year.

Memphis might screw it up but we'll see.

I think you have to overpay for Turk to get him out of Orlando. They just went to the finals and Turk knows they're contenders, especially now with VC15.

That is my question to you . . . does a 70 mil dollar contract over 6 years for Hedo "improve the team"?

We already offered 50 million . . . should KP up the offer to lock in Hedo?

I think Memphis is going after Lee according to hoopshype rumors. That would eliminate them as well.

Frankly, I don't want a player here who would choose to go to Memphis anyway. The money is more, and I know that's important, but no chance at all to win. I want guys like Bayless who would kill and eat his family to win a game.

I don't think so. Hedo's looking for the money, most of these players think in terms of dollar signs and not what the name on the front of the jersey is going to say.

Memphis would screw the Blazers if they could . . . but not if it is going to cost them money. No way they make a big offer for Hedo.

He can't, so what is the point of the question?

Well frankly if Portland could get Hedo for what I said earlier, then KP looks like a genius.

I've been around enough transactions to know that sometimes the best deal is not to do the deal on the table. We (meaning us on the board) seem to need to do a deal and that's not a smart place to be. You've got to know when to hold 'em, fold 'em or walk away. In this economy, the right deal is out there that will fill one need or another. To put too many chips on the table for any one guy in this FA class doesn't make sense to me. I don't think there's any one no-brainer, gotta have guy in this class. Be smart, but don't mortgage the future either.

What if they waived the two euro contracts and extended the offer by one year?

That get's it close for sure. I think that is too much. However, I think it will be his fault regardless because we could have avoided this had we traded RLEC at the deadline

Agree . . . whatever offer they made to Hedo, I hope they don't try to sweeten it because other teams may be interested.

I agree with the last, but we don't know what was on the table at the deadline. Lots of rumors, but we don't really know. All I can say is that I hope they didn't walk away from a solid deal in the hopes of gambling for a homerun later.

Honestly if Toronto is out, and we could sign Hedo for 8 or 8.5 mill a year, then we have witnessed KP's first pritchslap of the year.

Quick apparently has some juicy rumors coming up soon...

Is this the same Quick who has reported on two seperate occasions today that Toronto is preparing a 6 year 60 million contract to Hedo, and also that Toronto was out of the Hedo sweepstakes?

I like Quick though. It's good to hear something
