I'm fine with agreeing to disagree. Though, you've essentially already agreed with me when you noted that having terrible parents can make children go different ways. That illustrates that children are not simply reflections of their parents and the parenting they received.

No, we must see this differently. Sometimes you reflect oppositely. Like I said before, My father was never there and my Dad was an ass. That shaped me and made me develop a laser-like focus on not being that way for mine.

But then there are kids who neither fully clone their parents nor fully reject everything their parents are. That's what I mean when I say children are people with their own personalities, tendencies, etc. Parents should do their best to nurture growth, help them develop themselves, help them avoid life traps, etc, but I don't think parents simply mold children into who they become. You had your own motivations that led you to be the exact opposite of your dad--not everyone in your position would have done that, or become exactly like your dad.

Parents have a profound effect on their children (I fully recognize how much the way I think and do things has been inspired by my parents), but children are their own people--there are limits to how much you can "mold." You can't fundamentally change who another human is--you can help guide, within the parameters of who they are. That's my viewpoint, at least. I'm not trying to convert you, but that's where I'm coming from.
 
Most parents going raise there children the best they can. The real problem is the peer pressure with there friends that they run around with everyday. Some kids have it hard due there parents might not have much or abusive child hood and these type kids are searching for something out there even it right or wrong. There looking for that role model that will guide them in the right direction. I have see that has a coach and spending 20 years in the military as leader. LAVaR has done a great job with his kids and I really don't mind him thinking his kids are the greatest. Hell any parent that don't think there kids are the greatest then something wrong with you.

The Lonzo Ball hype is something I'll never understand. I've been his biggest critic. So many better guards in this draft than him. I realize its only one SL game, but what about him screams superstar potential???

His dad has been the main one screaming it, from what I can tell. Lucky for him, Magic Johnson seems to be one of those that believes him.

Lonzo Ball personally said he was better than Fultz.

Sometimes, the bee has AIDS though. Thems the breaks kid.

IMO, the Ball hype is because his big skill is spectacular in nature--his passing in the open court is legitimately beautiful and that turns heads. If his one great skill were rebounding or defense, he'd be a much less heralded prospect.

It is a nice skill to have but unlike, say, efficient scoring, it can't carry a player on its own. Without great defense or shooting, he won't be even close to a star. He'll be a lesser version of Ricky Rubio (since Rubio can play defense).

It's too early to say he can't shoot, but as long as he sticks with that awful release, he'll only be able to shoot wide open threes or step-back threes to generate the space to get it off. He even had one blocked in that highlight reel.

I thought it was pretty hilarious when they were comparing Ball to JKidd.
