LOST finale!

From EW:

"If there was one thing we can probably all agree upon, in the end, Jack Shephard was a Christ figure whose sacrifice saved many other people. The imagery could not have been more specific: Jack’s questioning and obeying of his father; his leadership of a small group of disciples; his final ascension (in TV terms, in a glowing white light). Even the piercing of his side by Locke/Man In Black was in the part of his body where Christ was speared while in agony on the crucifying cross."

and yet almost everything else with religious overtones in the finale was decidedly eastern - mostly resembling hindu.

The way i see it is everyone died when the plane crash happened from the very beginning but their "souls" continued living and the whole island was a test to where they end up in the end.

nope the island events were real life. that was made explicit.

i hated the finale and even i know that the island events were real life. christian said some people that were there at the church had lived on long after jack died.

What show were you watching? Clearly it was an adult re-telling of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The island was the chocolate factory, the smoke monster was a giant pissed off oompa loompa and everyone died from e-coli poisoning in the chocolate.

But what about the most important question: Did Gilligan ever break him a piece off of Maryanne?

The writers did a good job of raising questions only to fail answering most of them. I know they wanted it to be left up for interpretation, but some things you should explain instead of leaving it for the imagination. Huge cop out.

Have you ever had a tv show that really had a great series finale?

What about the St.Elswhere snow globe finale?

From the pilot episode to the finale the moment the plane hit the island everyone was dead.

False. The what end up being actual purgatory scenes at the end they explicitly explain that the events on the Island were real, they had consequences, and the ones who survived were alive. Hurley mentions to Ben that he was a great number two, and Ben replies he was an excellent number one which clearly suggests that life went on after Jack died. Kate mentions she missed him so much, implying she got off the Island with the rest of the people in the plane (Miles, Alpert, Lapidus, Claire, and Sawyer).

I mean, they made it pretty clear that they didn't die in the plane crash and that the purgatory sideways line of season six was just a place they met up when they died to accept their very real, non-plane crash related deaths, let go, and then move on if they were ready (Ben, Ana Lucia, Alex, Walt, etc were not ready).

It really wasn't that hard to understand, really. Unless people who didn't get that it wasn't purgatory/all were dead for six years simply stopped listening after Jack said "I died, too" and started flinging shit against the walls instead of listening to the explanations.

I know Denny is older than dirt but how old are you guys?

MASH reruns are still on the air.

The finale was the most watched TV show ever, at the time, and held that distinction for several years.

yeah I've watched MASH in sindication for years and never actually saw the Finale live but saw it about 10-15 yrs ago.

On topic, I loved the final episode and the return of all the characters I enjoyed watching. Yeah all the questions were not answered, but I expected that. The island was these 'lost' in life characters chances are redemption and doing something with their life that was good. This was a great series and I'm glad it lasted 6 seasons. It's definitely in my top 10 all time TV series no doubt.

My wife and I plan on going back and watching the entire series in a yr or two.

Most of the questions weren't answered.

I still love season 1-2. I'm going to re-watch it sometime.
