Deng has 5 years left on his contract:

$10,387,000
$11,374,000
$12,361,000
$13,348,000
$14,335,000

$61,805,000 Total

Travis is paid $3.6 million. If the Blazers used their cap space to absorb Deng's deal in a trade for Travis, Chicago would save over $58 million. The Bulls would have the potential flexibility to get more player for their dollar next summer in 2010. They made a very similar move with Chandler trading him in a salary dump for PJ Brown 1 year into his contract.

Deng is still young at 24 and would give us a huge upgrade over Travis. There is injury risk with Deng along with the possibility of lower production than was projected 2 summers ago. Yet that is the reason he might be available.

Travis + Blake for Hinrich + Deng? You might have to throw Rudy in as well. I have no idea if that would work cap wise.

ESPN trade machine is worthless because it does not reflect the cap space or Sign and Trades...GRR.

I don't trust Deng's injury issues and I doubt KP is thinking about him anyway.

I would love to land Deng. Absolutely love it. For five years and 60 million, Deng >>>>> Hedo.

You know a blake/outlaw for deng/hinrich trade would be pretty dope. Just admit it.

I admit it. I don't know if Chicago is game though.

Dude, no.

The guy is vastly overpaid and has been constantly injured.

Move along.

have you people watched basketball the past 3 years? I just don't understand where some of you are coming from. Maybe you are just so desperate to land a free agent that you are just throwing names out of everywhere. Deng has had 1 good month total in his NBA career. And the bulls made a HUGE mistake in giving him that redonkulous contract. And now you want to pick it up? why?

Portland actually has a fairly significant Sudanese population (like my friend Machar who is actually from Deng's tribe and gets tickets when the bulls come to town) and I think Deng could flourish here. I feel he lacks effort because he has seen a lot of Chicago teams implode in his young career. As to the injuries you may have a point. Seems like alot of them were nagging injuries that seemed like they might have been milked in a few cases. I know he has had a serious injury or two as well. Need to trust the Blazers medical staff to make sure he was seaworthy first of course.

Deng is a huge upgrade over anything we have had since Pippen. He has had 1 season where he missed a ton of games.

Deng would be a big investment, but if we got him for Trout, that would work for me.

Sessions is a more important piece, IMO.

I keep thinking how much the Blazers missed by not trading Raef and Outlaw for Vince Carter at the deadline...

If Portland could get Hinrich and Deng for a relatively low talent cost, as a salary dump on Chicago's part, I'd be for it. I wouldn't pay for Deng's potential in both money (picking up his salary) and talent. I still think he may have a nice future, but I'd bet mostly only money on it.
