These kind of forums should NEVER have political debates\discussions.

The point of a Sports\Music\hobby forums is to bring people together based on common grounds in order to escape this horrible world we live in for a little while.
You bring politics or religion in and it becomes a shitstorm and everybody hates each other over stuff that's out of their control.

I don't understand why people think their opinion on politics even matters lol

I remember that game thread and I can tell you I wasn't mad at what you said nor the context of what you said. What got to me, and I thought was very childish, was that someone asked you not to say that and you pretty much said "why the hell should I not say that, sorry if it offends you but i'm going to say whatever the hell I want to say so get over being offended by it".
Maybe it was wrong of me I don't remember, I just have a real issue these days with people trying to control others vocabulary and what you can and can't say or getting upset over these magic words we all give power to. It's not like I'm going around trying to offend anybody you know. I said something at the moment, people took it out of context and started telling me what I could and couldn't say and that's probably where I should of stopped. People need to just lighten up at the end of the day, you can't run around searching for things to get mad about. Too much of that these days. People like choosing to be offended rather than actually being offended. There are no dangers in people's lives, we don't have to hunt anymore or just survive because most of us live under a roof with Internet so people just get bored and we got to a point where now everything is offensive.

I completely agree that people especially in the media, created this PC culture where people are just trying to find reasons to bash what someone said and get angry simply to get angry or try to create this moral high ground. It generally happens with someone saying something not PC but can happen the reverse as well. Its one of the 1000x reasons why watching the news and discussing politics get into a crapshow so fast, people want to be offended with things and they will.

This has been a theory of mine for quite a while. Basically we've been so comfortable for so long, that we need to create struggles of some kind. If we had to worry about when or where our next meal or drink of water was coming from, there'd be no such thing as PC.

There is a setting in the admin control panel to allow HCP to only post in the L*kers forum.

FWIW, one of the requirements for this community is the OT section. Non Blazers mods wanting to do away with OT and move the posts to the sites overall OT section is what caused the migration here in the first place, no?

From what I saw, the subject matter hasn't changed much.

Where is TalkHard anyway?

In the past I only ventured over to the OT page if it was something about movies/tv/electronics/cars, that type of thing. Never dared venture into the political threads. I always assumed the beefs between posters just formed here on the main page talking about our transition defense or substitution patterns.

After experiencing what goes on over there (I mistakenly asked a, what I thought was, a simple question about our new president to be) I was blown away at what I was reading. Curious if somebody you argue with all the time in a political thread on here carries over to a thread about our defense or trade rumors. Because there was some really bad stuff being tossed around at each other and I don't know how you would deal with that? I joke around on here cracking on people, but it's all good natured compared to what I was seeing in my thread. I'm sure some rookies I've messed with, could care less about what I post now and that's understood. Safe to say there are a few posters on here that I now have on IGNORE because of the hate I was reading. Could care less about what you think about Dame's shot selection after that. In fact, I'll go as far to say that after reading some of that crap coming from your finger tips, my whole opinion of this site has changed. In the past, I always kinda' looked forward to the meet and greets...... not to sure about that now. A bit frustrated by this actually. Now after starting this thread, I'm quite sure the ones who I'm talking about and who made me actually sick to my stomach with their opinions on all things USA will be the same ones blasting others and typing in all caps and exclamation marks like they do over there.

Don't worry guys, I won't be over there in your territory again. Peace to you all, no matter who you voted for.
If I'm being completely honest, reading some of that shit has me disturbed. There are a few posters I now have 0 respect for because of their complete lack of moral compass. As you say, I too don't care one bit what they say about hoops when they actively support such a sleaze.

I'd rather have not known all this.

Trying to stay as much bball related as possible-- definitely gonna curb my ventures to OT forum.

I am pretty big on compartmentalization, so this makes no sense to me. For instance, I have 0 respect for Jason Kidd as a person. But I would listen with rapt attention if he were talking basketball. I have no problem separating the two.

Furthermore, I think this also illustrates one of the biggest problems with political religious discussions in general: too many people conflate, "I disagree with specific beliefs held by this person," with, "This is a bad person on the whole." This thought process is unhealthy, and is the kind of thinking that leads to prejudice and bigotry.

There are plenty of people in the OT section with whom I disagree vehemently, both in the content of their conversation and their manner of delivery. But when we're talking Blazers, none of the OT stuff matters to me, because it's not relevant to the basketball discussion.

It's just hard for me to un-see what I saw (rather, un-read what I read) and compartementalize as you say. Would much rather have as anonymous of an interaction as possible. Not easy to do when you're here a lot I guess.

There are some people I have put on ignore, those who used deliberate personal insults. I have nothing to gain by reading it. Some OT threads I ignore because frankly they are just the same people repeating the same things over and over. I'd rather go clean the litter box. (BTW, loved the cartoon, I get LIVID when other people's dogs shit in my garden and I discover the pile while crawling on the ground weeding.)

Sometimes I engage when I think I have information or point of view that might shed light. Or just f'ing feel like it!

Sometimes people ask respectful and interesting questions. I forget who but someone asked Hillary Clinton supporters, without mentioning Trump, why are you supporting her? And asked Trump supporters, without mentioning Clinton, why are you supporting him? What I saw reflected the country as a whole, Clinton supporters mostly raised specific issues or talked of her experience, Trmp supporters expressed themselves as pissed off.

Calling people SlyPokerDogs is never acceptable. I don't even like it when gay people use it among ourselves.

I spend a fair amount of time in the OT Section. For lack of a better word, I find it entertaining. Or maybe enlightening is more accurate. Faceless or not, this is a community and I enjoy getting to know what makes the other members "tick". One of the first and most important lessons I ever learned is that there is (almost) always two (or even more) sides to every story. And as much as I (like everyone else) likes to think my side is the "right" side, I don't have too much heartburn over being challenged. Call it "peer review". In a time where virtually all "news" and information is open to question, the more viewpoints available, the better. Because somewhere in all that white noise are kernels of truth to be gathered and hopefully the "big picture" can be assembled. And regardless of why or how people form the basis of their opinions (or "truths") they are theirs to own. It's part of what makes us all unique in our own ways. And we all need to do a better job of respecting that. And I guess that's my only real complaint about the OT forum. Things tend to get a little heated and disrespectful sometimes. I enjoy poking and being poked most of the time, but calling each other morons, asshole etc, slams the door on any hope of understanding or "enlightenment". No one is right 100% of the time (okay, maybe my wife is....green font). I've attended two meet and greets, along with three games since joining the board. And everyone I've met so far has been terrific. Believe or don't, we are a great group of folks, and not once, for even a second has anyone ever discussed religion or politics at those events. It's all about the Blazers and enjoying the camaraderie. The OT section gives us a refuge when the team is sucking, we're in the off season doldrums, or we just need a place to escape and vent. I'd just like to see us all take the actual heated moments down a notch and give each other the respect we are all owed. Because hey, at the end of the day, we all know what opinions are like.....and we all have them. And if you don't want to hear 'em, then stay out of the OT forum......

Use the word SlyPokerDog in public at your own risk. Does saying it mean more to you than keeping your teeth? I almost can appreciate your viewpoint if that is the case.

Cuck is the new word for SlyPokerDog, so just say cuck in public and you're golden.

Yes, I just edited all mentions of a certain f word in this thread. That is because if I don't others someone will use it as an insult against someone in the forum and they will say it's not fair that I deleted their post and didn't delete it in this thread.

I have felt the exact same way. There are some people on the left here who have ripped me a new asshole all because I said something was gay but the left never understands context, they just freak out over everything and even with me believing in gay rights people were calling for me to banned because I said something was gay. A specific referee in fact who wasn't gay but made terrible calls. Oh my bad I called him a SlyPokerDog. these are all words people give power too. Magical words. Then people proceeded to call me a bigot all because I used a magical word when in reality they were being the bigots at that moment. CONTEXT. Learn in people. I know Portland is full of over sensitive snowflakes but come on, not everybody that disagrees with you is a "bigot, racist, homophobic,".
Bigots project their bigotry on those with whom they disagree.

Did I make that ignore list? I've been making small appearances in the OP. Its overwhelming to try to keep up though.

Man @Rastapopoulos has been on FIRE!!! lol.

The OT forum. You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. And I say that as a sometimes-participant. You have to think of it like visiting 4chan--you're going to see some things that strain the concept of humanity and you have to be okay with that.

I don't even know what that is, and after reading your post, I glad I don't. Sometimes, I like being old.

You really gonna call Obama and his presidency more of a Hollywood Celebrity or elitist than Trump?

Really?

It is baffling to me how a conservative voter can call anyone else "elitist."

What kind of world is this.

Unfortunately someone edited out the insults you used. I wish the records were clear, so irritated by false information.

It reminds me of people in the media having to apologize every time they say something someone somewhere doesn't like. Get over it.

This is what is wrong with so many people today. It's worst when it comes to politics and religion, which is why those are such volatile subjects, but it's seen with people looking down up those who like a different gender, if someone likes weed, if someone doesn't like weed, if someones a "redneck", if someone's a "thug" etc... For whatever reason, a lot of people can't respect others differences in general, even just a difference of opinion. It's bad over in that OT section though, but that's just a reflection of society.

How the hell

I'm a liberal. I'd love you to come to a meet and greet and say that to my face. That'd make my fucking day. You'd be very "misfortune" after that. Again, acting like it's only liberals that do this shit... Your bias is showing.

Right, cuz that's the fucking cause of division in this country!!! You crack me up. You're ignorant as hell.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Do you really fucking think that people feel oppressed because they're "told they are", and not from real fucking experience??? You ignore the facts of systematic oppression. In fact, your just plain fucking ignorant.

Sorry to tell you, but you're issues don't compare to the issue of blacks being killed at a lot higher rate than whites. If you're issues are just as important than other people getting killed due to oppression, then I don't know what to tell you.

You're an example of ignorance at it's finest. I don't know why I expect better out of people though.

Some real tolerant practice what you preach shit right here. Hypocrisy much?

Not really someone. It was myself. I caught myself saying stuff that wasn't right, so I corrected. What's wrong with that? I have a conscience at least (somewhat).

@HCP I think we're all a bit more civil when it comes to talking bout the Blazers. Talking Politics gets intense in the OT...but all really mean well, and actually respect one another to a certain extent, even though it doesnt sound like it.

I think now that we're getting back into grudges and debates that people have about each others' world views, this belongs with the OT discussions.

You really brought this into another thread? HAH.

It was an angered response to someone getting too personal. Yeah, I shouldn't respond like that, but I'm gonna respond heatedly if someone calls me an asshole, asks if I'm fucking blind, etc.

We all do it. Is it cool? No. But it happens. I don't see how that plays a part in the bigger picture, in terms of tolerated groups of people. Tolerating someone in a personal argument is different than being tolerant of groups of people.

I still don't know why you brought that into this thread.

I find it ironic HCP made this post. You asked a question about Trump in there, didn't really address some of the good points that were in there and I say SOME. Then you ask for it to be deleted so I honestly don't know what you were trying to achieve and why you would just ask for it to be deleted because you "didn't want your name on it". That's not how it works. Your question was about Trump and your daughter asking about Trump and why he made those comments about groping women when that leaked. The famous "grab her by the pussy". Of course you will get absurd trump supporters but I saw a good point someone made in talking about Bill Clinton and his victims of sexual abuse. You just disappeared. So once again I don't know how we have this dialogue if nobody can even participate in it.

I'd disagree that something about Bill Clinton was a good point in that thread (although I don't remember the specifics). To an adult, maybe Clinton is a relevant "but he did it too" point. To an 11(?) year old, Bill Clinton is just ancient history, like Grover Cleveland. Trump is president now (well, in a couple of days).
