I want to announce that we are planning to migrate the site to new hosting and upgrade the software and the look and feel and the orientation of the site.
The tentative date is the 15th. On that date, at some point in the day/night, the site will be in "maintenance" mode - you'll see a message saying the site is unavailable. During that maintenance time, the database and assets will all be moved to the new server.
The new site will be RipCityTwo.com, no longer SportsTwo.com. It will have a Trail Blazers theme throughout, except for a couple of subforums. We have some loyal New York teams posters and we intend to have forums for them to continue posting - with their own NY style.
Yes, we'll be having HTTPS set up.
The DNS is set for a 60 minute TTL. This means that once the site is moved, it will take up to 2 hours for all the DNS servers on all the ISPs to know about the new site's IP address.
SportsTwo.com based URLs will still work, they will just be rewritten to RipCityTwo.com ones. This won't break any links from other sites, your bookmarks, etc. The https://ripcitytwo.com URL will point at a new home page and you will have to update your bookmarks to hit the forum home page if that's what you want to see first thing.
We anticipate some early glitches to iron out. These are to be expected with new software and a migration of this scale. We will work through them and have the site running well as soon as possible. These glitches are most likely to be due to the software being a much newer version of XenForo with new features and some older ones possibly missing.
SlyPokerDog will be busier than a 3 legged cat in a sandbox moving and deleting all the old forums (to be determined how we do this).
If the 15th date changes, I will post accordingly. I chose the date because it's between games and before the season opener.
I've been working on this for a few months. I didn't want to make any announcement until we were close to getting the move done. Nothing worse than promising "tomorrow" and delivering "next month" or not at all.
I am posting this here and now to give as many people a chance to be notified of the changes coming.
NOTES:
I will add more notes here over time.
1) I expect your current logins/passwords will continue to work.
2) the site will be open to the world. Previously I blocked entire countries that are the source of spam and hacks on all sorts of businesses and sites. For example, China, Russia, N Korea, Iran…. The new software has sufficient spam protection.
3) with Yang playing for us, we may see a lot of new posters and posts in Chinese. Thanks to the Blazers org who will help us monitor those. If anyone here speaks/reads/writes chinese, it would be helpful if you can help us monitor these new members and posts.
4) we’re considering a chinese language only subforum
5) the software will be a newer version of XenForo. We’re not changing software, just upgrading to a modern version of it.
I want to give credit to a few people in the Blazers organization for their assistance and support in the move, and the site, and community in general.
Go Blazers!
