Malcolm Brogdon trade ideas

Yuck. Only way I'm trading Ant is if we get a starting SF or PF. Neither of those guys qualify.
You don't think Wendell Carter Jr is a starting PF? He's 24, shot 62/36 last year, is one of the best rebounders in the league. He can pass, he's one of the best finishers at the rim in the league...

You want those two guys when we now have Ayton and Williams? I don't like that trade at all.
We don't really need Issac, he's just a filler. The idea is that we would have a 3 man rotation at PF and C with Wendell Carter Jr/ Ayton and Williams. They are all young and locked in for 3 more years (also with injury issues we may only have 2 of 3 at any given time).

This is an Anferee Simons trade idea, and we keep Brogdon. Magic need some scoring/shooting at guard. We take on a crap contract in JI, and give them a serviceable rotation player for Wendell Carter JR.

We then can have a legit 3 man rotation at PF with Ayton/Williams/Carter Jr, and move Grant to SF. We then start Sharpe at SG and let the Scoot/Sharpe era begin for real, with Brogdon backing up both guard spots.

That is disgustingly low value for Ant. We do not need to add WCJ to Ayton and Williams.

Why not? Is this based on a perception that Carter is a center exclusively?
All WCJ and Williams have actually started at PF several seasons, as can Ayton.

3 guard rotation of Scoot/Sharpe/Brogdon
3 man rotation at PF/C of Williams/Ayton/WCJ

Grant at SF with Murray backing him up.

We go from one of the worst rebounding teams in the league to one of the best.

Here's the Ultimate MB trade:

Don't trade Malcolm Brogdan.

He's actually good, and I want to win. I think he can play some 3. We already have an extra draft pick next year.
I think Brogdon will be a Good trade chip at the deadline. Hopefully he’s not injured! It wouldn’t surprise me if Joe tries going after OG Anunoby again at the trade deadline.

No, I think he's more of a center and we have a center better than him already. I like him, but not for us with Ayton and Rob. We have to sell high on Ant. He's going to breakout this season.

Oops, all bigs!

You think his Value is better than Tyler Herro?
I think his value will be much higher than Herro’s by the trade deadline. Herro is the 2nd, and you can argue 3rd option of the Heat. Ant is going to be the #1 option, and is definitively the better shooter. Ant should come out shooting 12 3’s a game, and try to get back to his efficiency on catch and shoots, he could be the best shooter in the game in any given year imo. I don’t think Herro is that caliber of shooter

I also have seen Ant in enough games without Dame that I am confident he can be a Fox-level distributor, and haven’t seen enough from Herro to say anything like that.

I see a team like Toronto, Brooklyn, Miami, SA offering multiple 1sts for Ant by next summer.

I wonder if Brogdon will be the best PG/SG on the market at the deadline, or could Trae request a trade if the Hawks aren’t in the playoff hunt.

OG would be really interesting if it costed Brogdon and maybe a 1st. I like signing him for 4 years with a fourth year TO. If he agrees to re-sign with Portland, obviously you have to make the trade, he’d be the best SF here in a decade. This team could, and should, compete for a playoff spot in ‘24-‘25. OG and DA could lock up 2/3 of the front court spots through their rookie contract, and they still have all those 1sts to find great young players as Scoot and Shae enter their rookie extensions. That would be one hell of a decade, to be able to compete for HCA every year with the occasional lottery talent joining the team.

it just sounds like it's pretty pointless to have trade discussions with Toronto if Masai Ujiri is still the GM. And the Blazers can't afford to give up a 1st for what could be a 25 game rental

Yeah, obviously that trade wouldn’t happen without OG agreeing he’d re-sign here.

You’re probably right about Masai

I saw one writer mentioning both Brogdon and Williams could be snagged by contenders at the trade deadline. I don't know if Blazers can keep them both. The team is flirting with the luxury tax, and might have to make salary room for another pair of amazing rookies next summer.

There are plenty of ways to get trade away salary this season. Once December rolls around, more possibilities can happen.

Brogdon + Thybulle make almost as much money as Brogdon + Williams if Williams shows us he’s worth keeping here. I watched a Mavs vid where their guys were talking about the possibility of Williams, saying they wouldn’t give up a 1st, but felt a guy like Hardy + 2 2nds would be too low. If Williams isn’t definitively worth a 1st, he’s not worth getting rid of.

Grant can still be traded. Ant is going to command a lot of interest next summer if he’s close to the 26/3/6 projection I have for him.

Perhaps that’s why Cronin is keeping Brogdon for now. There are a lot of players that can help us compete, and I think we could have a Jazz-like season this year. If (and likely, when) Jody tells him to cut salary, he can pick and choose between what pieces to trade based on the return he can get. If we are in the playoff hunt, expendable pieces look more valuable. I just hope Cronin pulls the plug sooner than Ainge did last season.

Grant could get back a young player or a couple 1sts. Thybulle could get a protected 1st from the right team like the Mavs. Williams at the right price should be available as well. And of course, Brogdon’s $22m will already be coming off the books.

There’s also a possibility we only draft one guy in the 1st round and simply use the GS pick to help us move up and grab the guy we want. We still have the Hawks 2nd. We’ll also have a bunch of 1sts in the future, it doesn’t make sense to get more than a couple players in a draft class that is supposedly weak.

Raptors rebuffed OG for THREE 1sts, they're not taking Brogdan, or anyone reasonable for him.
Blazers will get a late 1st for Brogdan. I'd rather have Brogdan... UNLESS, we somehow are able to clear capspace for next offseason, which I doubt.

Maybe, but I think at some point Cronin should convert Simons into a quality forward.

Bank Teller thinks Ant will be worth "multiple 1st's"?; you think he'll be converted into Mikal Bridges?

my sarcasm detector must be broken
Because I’m very much not being sarcastic.

These were Fox’s stats last year:
25/4/6 on .512/.324/.780 (attempts: 18/5/6)

For reference, Ant’s stats last year were:
21.1/3/4 on .447/.377/.894 (attempts: 17/9/3)

As the #1 option, I think Ant can and will get to that statline on less efficiency but better shooting. I’m not entirely sure the Kings are a lock to make the playoffs again. If the Kings and Blazers are around the same spot in the standings, Ant could get the same amount of consideration as Fox.

I don’t think he’ll get Bridges, that’s kind of crazy. But I would be looking for one of Clowney or Whitehead with 2 PHX 1sts in ‘27 and ‘29 is what I think he could be worth by the end of next year.

It’s all about waiting for an injury to happen to another team.

For Toronto specifically- Im betting that they'll loose OG for nothing next summer

I'm not sure if we could pry two picks out of this.... maybe only one? Maybe a pick and swap? Does Philly go for this?

If you're a seller, you shouldn't be giving up future assets anyway. If the Raptors feel they need a guy like Brogdon to put them over the top, there's no way the Blazers or any team with whom they're dealing for a similar player should have to sweeten the pot. If anything, it should be the other way around.
