What exactly did this guy do wrong that deserves a $1mill bail?

Good question. This won't do it, "self-proclaimed Constitutionalist," .

This won't either, "unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm,".

On the other hand, what the fuck was the dude doing hauling that armament around and making himself conspicuous?
He maybe testing his constitutional rights and fucking with the police. Sounds like fools work.

Seems they used him having a police scanner as reason to search his car. Considering that anyone with a smart phone can download a police scanner app this sounds flaky.

yeah...dunno how i feel about this.... on one hand family member is a police, on the other i dont like the infringement of rights.

Crowl was booked Monday into jail on allegations of attempted assault of a public safety officer, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm, with bail set at $1 million.

On the one hand, it seems like this dude was planning something major.

On the other, I fail to see how he "attempted" anything.... and what was the unlawful use of a weapon? It seems like they're just trying to find something to pin on him because they're afraid of what he's planning. I totally get it. I understand why they're freaked out, but you can't arrest someone unless they broke the law. They need to prove that he actually was planning something. Owning guns and police scanners are not illegal in this country.

Fuck this guys rights! Nothing good whatsoever can come from him having all those weapons driving around our streets, NOTHING! I served my country and shot those weapons.... only harm can come from him being loose with his hands on that shit. Sorry, it's how I feel.

Awesome that people who served their country have no respect for the rights of the public. Maybe he wanted to be there to save the cops if someone ambushed them.

I mean, he is clearly crazy but he looks like someone who would want to be a cop.

If we are going to ignore people's rights just kill the Nazi with the tattoos in the other thread now and save the world some grief.

Seems like a job for the ACLU.

Man who watched Portland police for months says he never meant to harm them

Updated story with new information. Again, I'm just not seeing this as a crime.
I read the story and saw a crime right away. One time the cops were going to talk to him but he left. Within a few blocks they pulled him over for a "traffic violation" which really means they made up something. That sounds like it has to be some kind of crime.

I'm not saying that this weirdo wouldn't creep me out if I were the cops. The illegal search is the problem.

The first story says attempted assault on a public safety officer and the second says attempt to commit a felony. Huh?

Wonder what the media and forum narrative would be if... Well you know....

This nutjob is getting a taste of how cops can do whatever they want and twist some laws to fit whatever they think he was going to do into an actual charge.

That pretty much reinforces what blm is saying doesn't it?

It certainly does. My question was what the narrative would be in here if he were black. Everyone here save HCP thinks the guy got a raw deal. I truly don't think that would be the prevaling notion of he were black.

The man's skin color wouldn't change my opinion at all.
You could be suprised. I'm with Sly on this one, and I've stated it in another thread. Rather loudly too.

Funny. I didnt know what color he was nore did i bother to find out before forming my opinion. I began reading the thread and was going to post my opinion and the first point i realized his skin color was when you pointed it out. So who is racist? The guy that formed an opinion without even thinking about race, or the guy that immediately wanted to know what race he was?

Same. I had no idea, nor did I even care to look..... yet here it is...........................

You must have a pretty low opinion of us if you think the "prevailing notion" on this forum would change because he's black.

My wife and kids are safer with him and his arsenal OFF the streets, plain and simple.

You aren't safer. I still have all my airsoft guns. I have an arsenal of little plastic bb's that are coming for you!

Well, most of us are white, so...

So he did break a law. He was carrying a loaded firearm without a CCW.

I'm still not sure what the probable cause was though. Still, it definitely seems like this dude was planning something big. I'm glad that they stopped him, but I would prefer that they do so without violating his rights.

Police approached Crowl and directed him to put his hands up, the affidavit said. Police said he reached around to the center console of his car and repeatedly raised his hands before dropping them back down, the affidavit said.

Officers patted Crowl down and searched his SUV. Inside, they found a 5.56 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, two 9 mm handguns, a loaded 100-round 5.56 magazine drum, hundreds of 5.56 and 9mm rounds of ammunition, 5.56 tracer rounds, handheld radios, a police scanner, camouflage clothing and camping gear including sleeping bag, food, camping stove, and lantern. One of the pistols was in the center console, where police said they saw Crowl reaching, the affidavit said.

Crowl violated city laws by carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and because he did not have a concealed carry license, police said.
