Manti Te'o made up dead girlfriend story?

You know, I've got to give it to you guys for the closeted homosexual angle. I was reading about this yesterday, almost to the point of obsession, and I don't think anyone else had brought up that possibility.

Bomani Jones did a good hour on it when the story dropped that's supposed to be pretty entertaining -

http://www.theeveningjones.com/

I'm about to watch that...

Seems like the Deadspin article was strongly hinting at the "seems like hes a closeted gay" theory without actually saying it.

So far that is what makes the most sense to me. And at this point I think people would be more understanding if it came out that he was gay but trying to hide it because hes a Mormon, football player, famous athlete, etc. etc. rather than if he just made it up for publicity.

Perhaps the national media would be more accepting of that explanation, but would his family? Or would the NFL executives that are looking at drafting him?

Mark Schlereth was saying this morning that even if he were involved in the hoax, some teams might red flag him for this, but most would be more interested in his 40 time. However, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that many teams would be concerned with the potential ramifications of bringing an openly gay player into a highly testosterone-fueled environment like an NFL locker room.

Find it hard to believe he wouldn't make an effort to meet this (beautiful) girl in person, ever, so...

This is crazy! He had to of known about this from the begining and was a part of the hoax.
Was their a fake funeral for this imaginary girl?

Best comment, Lennay Kekua is KEYSER SOZE

Wait until he finds out about Joseph Smith.

...so apparently Clint Eastwood talked to Lennay Kekua as well:

Apparently he gave an off-camera interview with Jeremy Schaap that Schaap is about to reveal the details of on the 1 AM ET Sportscenter.

More spin by Manti and ND. He's never going to admit that he was in on it.

...somebody needs to account for all of the voices on the other end of this "hoax" telephone #

That's why it's bullshit. The guy is trying to play the victim here because he's probably worried about his draft stock and he doesn't want people hating him. The question that is really at the forefront is, "why?". Was it for publicity? Was it to hide something?

I'm not entirely sure when they started "dating" but if it's anything over a year, there's something extremely questionable about his story. People don't date online for a year without ever meeting. It's completely unrealistic.

IDK I watch Catfish and his story sorta seems plausible.

It's amazing how consumed the media is with this story. As well, I wouldn't doubt it's caught Hollywood's ear.

It's reasonable if it were only for a few months, but not for a matter of years, and not when they've talked on the phone etc. Plus, Manti is a freakin star football player, not some dork on the internet who can't get a girl friend.

B) Con someone for THAT long.

...with no apparent motive! Looks like the "mastermind" has been found:

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo -- the man who allegedly spearheaded the hoax on Notre Dame football star Manti Te'o -- has finally come out of hiding ... surfacing at his family home in Palmdale, CA on Saturday evening ... TMZ has learned.

Ronaiah was wearing a hoodie and tried to hide his face. He also didn't utter a single word when asked about his role in the hoax.

"He said that they met through his cousin nearly four years ago and started "dating" on Oct. 15, 2011."

There's just no way. No reasonable person is going to

A) wait that long to meet someone

and

B) Con someone for THAT long.

Is it just me, or is ESPN trying to sell us on the lie? Out of all of their journalists, it seems like the great majority of them try to sell us on the lie. Maybe they're scared to mess with their journalistic reputation, or maybe they have other motives, but whatever the reason is, the overwhelming sentiment out of Bristol is pro-Te'o.

The only one I've seen out there still calling Manti on his bullshit is Bomani Jones. Hopefully this won't turn into one of those things that is swept under the rug and is remembered ten years later as the time Manti Te'o was the "victim of a hoax," because any reasonable person's bullshit radar should be going crazy right now.

Yup. ESPN loves ND and Manti is the most decorated player in NCAA football history. They want him to be the victim.

This story just keeps getting better and better.

espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8875990/lawyer-ronaiah-tuiasosopo-was-voice-talking-manti-teo

The woman whose picture was used to create Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend has been identified, but the voice of the woman who had hours of late-night phone calls with the Notre Dame star linebacker has remained silent. Turns out that's because it reportedly was a man.

The lawyer for the man who has been identified as behind the hoax, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, told the New York Daily News that his client disguised his voice and assumed the identity of Lennay Kekua to try to develop a relationship with Te'o.

Is Manti Te'o really that stupid?
