Plumlee Rejoins Team USA After Winning Gold at 2014 FIBA World Cup

Portland Trail Blazers center/forward Mason Plumlee is among 34 players scheduled to attend the USA Basketball Men’s National Team minicamp August 11-13 in Las Vegas, it was announced today by USA Basketball.

Plumlee was a member of USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s elite 12-man roster that won the gold medal at the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.

Portland acquired Plumlee and the draft rights to guard Pat Connaughton in a NBA Draft night deal with the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for guard Steve Blake and the draft rights to Arizona forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Plumlee, 25, has posted averages of 8.1 points (60.6% FG, 54.5% FT), 5.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.78 blocks and 19.9 minutes in 152 career games (67 starts) over two seasons with Brooklyn.

A 2013-14 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection, Plumlee (6-11, 235) was selected by the Nets with the 22nd overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft out of Duke.

The 2015 USA National Team minicamp will feature practices on Aug. 11-12, and the minicamp will conclude on Aug. 13 (7:30 p.m. PDT) with the 2015 USA Basketball Showcase, a USA Blue versus USA White exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The 2015 USA National Team minicamp and Basketball Showcase are the first steps in the selection process for the USA Men’s National Team roster that will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Who replaces Mason in the lineup when he breaks his leg?

1. Maybe he wants to focus on being a Blazer.

2. After what he witnessed last year what happened to Paul George maybe he feels the risk isn't worth it to play in Brazil.

3. Maybe he doesn't want to be on the same team as LaMarcus Mr Spur Aldridge.

Gee, I sure wish he'd commit to the Blazers rather than his national team. Get your priorities straight - Paul's paying your salary! We should probably trade him because clearly he doesn't care about the Blazers.

5. Maybe Lillard loves 'murica and has decided to spend that time going on the road and campaigning for Donald Trump.

If these players want to or don't want to be on the National Team, I have nothing against them. Any athlete worth his their salt wants to win some silverware of any kind. Being part of the US National team is as close they get to being on the World Cup. If Plumlee jumps at the chance can't say I blame him. We aren't going to the playoffs any time soon.

+> That is awesome!

Is this Plumlee kid that good or is this some sort of in with the coach? Oh well, whatever, I look forward to see what Plumlee the Blazer does.
I sure hope he and Leonard can sort out who is PF and who is Center. A coach might help with that task.

I'm glad Dame bowed out but happy to see Plumlee represent. I've got nothing against team USA basketball. Joel P broke his leg taking a shower. Shit happens.

It probably doesn't make much difference what they are called, but if they are on the floor at the same time Plumlee will play closest to the basket since he has limited range on his shot and is a better shot blocker. I guess you can call him the center.

Leonard will have to be the one to play away from the basket for spacing purposes. So I guess he is the stretch 4. But you could also call him a stretch 5 and list Plumlee as the power 4. Bottom line is.....who cares.

On D Plumlee is by far a better rim protector, but they are both pretty mobile so they can switch out.

Each player has to decide when playing nationally helps or hurts his NBA game. With Nic, I think everyone agreed he needed rest. Lillard may think he is better off not playing. Hopefully Plumlee understands.

If He did go your complaint would be:

"Why the hell is Lillard risking his future playing for a team that's not paying him!?"

Choose a side of the fence...
