“If you have an Oregon driver’s license, ID, driver’s permit you can assume that data associated with that credential has been compromised,” Amy Joyce, ODOT’s DMV Administrator, said. “It could include things beyond what’s printed on the card itself.”

The DMV should have to issue new licenses and IDs to everyone with new information.

They probably should. Can we bring a class action lawsuit against an administrative department of the state?

True.

Issuing new licenses would be fun. Can you imagine the lines at the ever efficient DMV offices?

Might as well just send out new ones with new numbers to everyone. No lines necessary.

Damn....Who is responsible for this?
Our reliance on lobbyists to inform our political leaders instead of having boards of technical advisors who actually know something about these things and have the best interests of society as their highest priority.

This is what homeland security should be making sure can't happen. These systems should be easy to use, efficient, and virtually impenetrable.

But our leaders count on lobbyists to help them figure this out. And we wonder why we have lawsuits with companies like Oracle...

So should we all be calling this number?

If you know your Social Security information has been compromised, you can request to Block Electronic Access. This is done by calling our National 800 number (Toll Free 1-800-772-1213 or at our TTY number at 1-800-325-0778). Once requested, any automated telephone and electronic access to your Social Security record is blocked. No one, including you, will be able
to see or change your personal information on the internet or through our automated telephone service. If you have requested that we block access to your record and change your mind in the future, you can contact us and ask to have the block removed. You will need to prove your identity when you call.

Thats the problem with big gov that is driven by lobbyist. I agree 100% that there should be committees of tech advisors. Or contract out to private company that have the expertise to manage and stay current.

Looks like it was a vulnerability with the MOVEit FTP program and there some other agencies hit as well. We'll see if it was actually by the Russians (Cl0p ransomware group, same group that was attacking SolarWinds?), but that's who they are currently blaming. No real surprise there.

Private companies charge the most to do the least. They view government contracts as free money scams.
Source: I worked for an internet contractor with several Oregon school district contracts. My uncle was also a defense contractor.

I'm biased, but only because I experienced it firsthand.

It would have to be a private company that was reasonable and efficient. I do appreciate your concern and feedback.
To me, it's about good management regardless if government or private sector. There is plenty of room to clean up in-efficiency and bad management in government and private sector.

I think it should be diplomats who deeply love the country and have only the highest ethical standards.

Donald Trump fired a lot of these kinds of people.

They should be very skilled and very motivated to improve things, first and foremost.

*Edit* Also, they should be paid very well.

When I renewed last in 2021 I refused to pay extra for the real ID bullshit they were pushing. Fingers crossed that improves my chances of not being in the breach.

I was able to fly home yesterday, so I guess they didn’t get my info!

The DMV and that bank need to buy back the files and protect us at any cost. The Feds then need to track down Clop and scatter it to the winds.
