Of his potential suitors, league sources indicate that the Mavericks are the biggest threat to pull Aldridge away from the Blazers, but it's the general idea of returning to Texas, not a specific destination, that appeals to him. Both the Mavericks and Spurs, of course, could have the requisite cap space, reputation of success and location.

Both also may not be perfect fits. Several sources have indicated that the Spurs, for whatever reason, are either off his list or not very high on it. And the question concerning Dallas is: Does an aging Dirk Nowitzki truly give him a better chance of competing for a title? Dallas, sources say, is clearly interested, but where he sits on its priority list is not clear.

"LaMarcus feels, as all great players do, that wherever he goes he'll have a great chance," a source familiar with his thinking said. "But don't think about this as what makes the most sense. He feels he's been in Portland a long time and that maybe it's time for a change. That's what is driving this."

"Time for a change." I like the sound of that.

I must admit it was a pretty good article. All speculation, but none the less pretty well written.
I have had similar thoughts as the following:

"But they also know that feelings stirred up by events during the season—Aldridge's included—have a way of dissipating with time and distance.

"They are all determined to go elsewhere, until they do or don't," said one league executive. "It always changes in July, when (the conversation) goes from the subjective to the objective."

I'm loving this. EVERYTEAM seems to think they are going to be the one to lure LMA away and there are a 100 reasons for him to go to a different team, nevermind the 100 reasons he has to stay. I can honestly say that i'v never seen a FA who seems so get able but hasn't made it obvious he wants to leave his current team. I have no clue where he is going and neither does anyone else in the media and all I want is for him to make the decision in the first few days, don't string us along like Carmelo did to NYK.

Yeah unless he has a clear cut favorite in his mind right now to switch to, then I like our odds. The more teams pitching him is not that bad. In the end if none of them are head and shoulders above the rest, he might as well stay.

I'm not 100% sold he stays but I also think he comes back and hears Neil's speech and plan after everyone else. Who gets the last word imo matters a lot in FA.

Honestly I wish we traded this dude. Not to say he's weak or anything bc he's actually quite good. I just think this guy never really intended FULLY to sign here unless stars aligning type of chance. I wish we got something for him like Minnesota was able to get for Love.

LMA just never seemed fully on board. How do you go from I'm resigning next summer don't worry about it to ahhhhh nevermind?? It's not like we were fully healthy and had an epic collapse. I just don't see the type of loyalty that say Lillard gives the city of Portland..

I wish we traded LMA I just have this feeling he's going to screw the hell out of us..

Not on board huh? You are aware about him playing through a pretty bad injury right?

That's overblown. He doesn't loose anything regardless if he came back or not. Obviously it didn't affect his play right? So what did it hurt him in the long run.

All I'm saying is we should have traded this guy. I have not read one article indicating this guy had an indication he was resigning.

LMA is out and your blind if you can't tell. We just lost him for nothing..

"Honestly," lol...

Jesus dude... You'd be complaining like a lil' bitch if you tore a ligament in your hand. Let alone play playoff NBA basketball....

I'm not fully on board but I'll sure play through this injury... You do remember when he re-signed with us before right? Not saying he will now but to say "not fully on board" just doesn't make sense at all....

Troll troll troll your boat gently down the stream.

I think it's safe to say we have him for at least one year. No way he leaves all that money on the table

He resigned with us last time because he had no choice. He was restricted.

I don't know what's wrong with saying that I wish we traded him because he's not going to resign here.

I don't think it has anything to do with winning or losing. My biggest fear all along was that he wanted to be closer to his mom, and for that reason I have always considered Dallas our biggest threat.

And if that's the case, not much we can really do.
My one thought on it, though, is he spends a lot of his offseason in LA instead of Dallas. I'd think if he was homesick and wanting to be closer by, and was gone more than half the year here, he'd spend the whole summer there, instead of LA.

Yeah I wouldn't blame him if he choose to go play in Dallas. It's his home and his family is there. How many players get to play for the hometown team in there prime?

Hmmmm.... we could sign and trade LMA to Dallas for Felton.

Does Aldridge have a better chance at a title in Dallas? Obviously not.
Can Aldridge get more money in Dallas? Clearly not (although tax issues complicate matters).
What am I missing? The desire to go home? People seem to assume that all NBA players have this magnetic pull towards home, but why should that be? They can retire home if they love it so much. And maybe, just maybe, they're glad to get out of that shithole they came from. (Aldridge is a bit of a loner and doesn't strike me as somebody who has a huge posse waiting for him back there.)

Now San Antonio can offer a proven system and a hall-of-fame coach.

I would be amazed if LA didn't give serious consideration to a whole bunch of places. You would if you were in his situation, you're lying (or stupid) if you say otherwise. But Portland has the upper hand, and besides, recruiting free agents is supposed to be Olshey's greatest strength.

The tax complications issue everyone brings up is a joke. The Oregonian tried to write anarticle about it and a bunch of tax guys shit all over that article.

If Aldridge really lives in California as a resident, he obviously doesn't Care about tax bills. Plus, as a non resident you're only taxed in the state you play the game if they have a state tax. if he became a resident of texas, or never changed his residency, it might make a little difference. But the raises and extra guarantees should take care of most of that

Our raises would be higher, and we can offer a fifth year guaranteed that surely nobody else would offer when he's 34-35.

Any team recruiting Aldridge is going to have to offer him an out next year to take advantage of the huge new salary cap... I'm assumin'. Don't know if that levels the playing field at all.
